Those schools are NFL factories. The best of the best go there to play ASAP and get to the pros. No different than Kentucky or Duke in Bball. Wisconsin is a program. You can't compare the two. You're looking for a 1-2 year window here where you can compete on the same level as those schools and try to beat them. Aka LSU this year. An older Mertz with a good roster gives us a much better chance. You're right. Those programs aren't lead by mediocre head coaches and have schools that are content with being less than a conference champion. lol and we had a chance this year, homie. This team was insanely talented for a Wisconsin program. But, sure, you don't start the better player here in hopes of being better when they're older. Everyone talked about how he’s healthy, we had a month to prepare, and the staff decided the best plan of attack was running into stacked boxes and throwing it no more than two yards. If that’s the confidence you have in your QB, you’re just wasting time. Nah man. You start the older player because we'll be better when the young guys are older. beekay414
Imagine not wanting your insanely talented QB recruit to play in an offense with JT23, Quintez Cephus and Jake Ferguson. Can't wait til he gets to play with lesser talented guys when he's older. Edited January 2, 2020 by beekay414

Our development of lineman who are talented enough to be high draft picks (the biggest one being CVL) has been poor We need to completely overhaul our kicking/punting evaluations. Lotti getting a scholarship, and the sunk fallacy that no one could beat him because he had a scholarship, was a huge mistake compounded on a huge mistake. We have a fumbling problem, it's not just JT. We have far too many different personnel groupings and it makes us easy to read. There's more, this was just a comedy of errors. No those athletic programs act independently of their University. If you think the NCAA works on an even playing field, you're delusional. Nick Saban couldn't coach UW to titles, the structure isn't the same. We didn't have a chance at all. Those top 4 teams were leagues better than us, even with good QB play. You say whatever the hell you want to be able to accept what we are. That's fine. If you're content being this, more power to you. And you wanna know why the NCAA isn't an even playing field? Because those top schools do whatever they can to win while we thrive on our morals lol.

It's sad that this is always your tactic. Everything is obviously case by case basis but you try and paint your opponent in an argument to make these broad based generalizations like I'm some idiot. Lol Obviously the best player plays, but if it's close and you have the ability to redshirt a young player and take advantage of him as a more mature athlete, you do it. Especially when you're at a university where you arent on a level playing field and are essentially hunting for a year window every 4-5 years. When you don't have the power running, counter play that's the foundation, we have to resort to all of these gimmicks that aren't sustainable to account for a significant fraction of your playbook. Instead of 25 counters, bellies, and off tackle runs as the base, we're saying "okay 3 jet sweeps, and 2 read options, and 4 bubble screens, and ..." and all of those are coming with different personnel. Oh yeah, it showed plenty. I think Coan was just the most obvious. Watching him underthrow Pryor by about 20 yards sure was something. The kicking situation is incredible. The personnel packages are just the worst. We don't have 5 good skill players, much less 12 that we should be rotating in and out to give away the play. I'm not saying that you have to be Mike McCarthy and play the same 5 every play, but lord it would help to not make it so damn obvious. We never had a solid 5 throughout the year, there was constantly rotation with Moorman, Lyles, and Erdmann. Our guard play was terrible. Do we beat Illinois and maybe one of the OSU games if we have 5% better QB play?
