2020 - TCMD GM Mock Draft Discussion

Most of you guys already know that I like to keep you informed as I'm building these mocks.  Doing so gives you a look at where I'm at with the build but it also helps keep me on track.  As always feel free to commit.

The build

  • We need to get at least 16 members to join this.  Anything less just isn't worth the amount of time to manage it.  So if you're interested please make me aware as soon as you can.
    • I'd like to kick this off by the end of this week if possible.
  • How the initial season will start is by selecting your team to start the season.
    • You'll have the ability to conduct a short fantasy draft for all active players from franchises not selected as these other 16 teams will be dissolved.  We'll make this short, no more than 4 rounds.
    • Rather than doing a typical tcmd blind bidding free agency.  I'll start this season off with an open bidding free agency, which we'll use during the season and revert back to the blind bidding style during the off season.  (see below for more information)
  • Salary Cap/ Contract Structure
    • It would be a nightmare to track and update a contract structure like irl so I'm looking to keep it somewhat simple here.
      • Shark Tank (open bidding) are all single season contracts.
      • Off season (blind bidding) will use the following:
        • Multi year contract from 1 to 5 year options.
        • You'll only need to enter one amount (total per year amount)
          •  From this amount the base and signing bonus is collected.
          • The SB is determined by the two factors.
            • Position and the average per year (apy) amount offered
            • Using the average per year amounts from irl contracts, certain positions are more valuable than others.  Kinda like the franchise tags differ based on positions (QB has more value than ST)
            • Will also include an percentage increase based on the amount being offered.
              • Higher the amount the greater the SB required.
      • Here is an example.

Open Bidding FA

I'm using a workbook that I created along with the help of @TedLavie.  I believe it worked out pretty well for them last year.  Outside of the changes needed to make it TCMD I got rid of the need to type the exact player name and pos and switched it out with just needing to type the 4 digit player ID number.  I expect fewer mistakes when placing your bids.

How it works, you place your bid using the google form, once the first valid contract offer is made the 24 hour clock starts and restarts each time a greater offer is made.  Completely automated and it tracks each bid.  With the bdl version we assigned 4 digit owner codes out privately so someone else couldn't make an offer on a player without the code.  We can do this here but I'd rather use the "collect email address" feature to identify because it also sends out an email to you for your record of which player and amounts you bid on should anything go wrong.

@EaglesPeteC and @scar988

I think this would actually be a solid way to conduct a free agency for ffmd should you guys decide to go that route.

Always looking for feedback and suggestions.

Thanks

Mike

Building the depth chart for this requires using both offense and defensive schemes.  I'm looking at using madden to achieve this list.  Primarily for offense.

Each scheme differs slightly with its base package and using what I'm calling FLEX positions you can include a combination of three additional players to round out your offenses depth chart.

Offensive Scheme Air Raid Multiple Power Run Multiple Zone Run Pistol/Option Power Run Pistol/Option Zone Run Pistol/Option Spread Vertical Power Run Vertical Zone Run West Coast Power Run West Coast Spread West Coast Zone Run

9 RG RG RG RG RG RG RG RG RG RG RG
10 RT RT RT RT RT RT RT RT RT RT RT

FLEX 12 13 14

For defense this is what I've laid out.

Using base defensive schemes 34 and 43 with two sub categories under / cover 2 / cover 3 / man to man / quarters.  With the 3rd sub being as follows;

443 - Sub Package
524 - Sub Package
425 - Sub Package
335 - Sub Package
425 (big) - Sub Package
335 (big) - Sub Package
443 - Sub Package
524 - Sub Package
425 - Sub Package
335 - Sub Package

The concept is to use the sub categories as a game planning tool each week depending upon your opponents strengths and weaknesses.  Using this in conjunction with the game planning sliders  I think it adds another layer of planning.
