The problem is he came from Baylor and didn't run a diverse route tree there. It's the most important aspect of playing to receiver (outside if you can catch outside your frame) it was hard to rate him. But now that scouts see he can run a ton of routes effectively, coupled with being such a problem in the open field Mims might make into the top of the second round. I wouldn't be surprised if sneaks into the first with a strong combine.

If he is drafted either at the end of day 2 or beginning of day 3 it will be better.  He is a deep threat WR that needs work.  Mike Wallace with less speed

Fair, but nobody is really running NFL routes in college. I think there's always a weird assumption that guys can't do what they've not been able to show. He's been great at getting off press, separating deep and playing above the rim and shown all of that plus an ability to sell a route here at the Senior Bowl. Even without that, his physical skillset alone would give you a package you can work with.

It is why guys who can run crisp routes should be valued higher as they will have an immediate impact.

Mike Wallace wasn't a red zone threat, Mims plays above the rim too. Plus he's 5 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier.

Mind listing them? I'm curious who you feel isn't better.

As an example, hes at 153 on Kyle Crabbs' most recent draft big board. No knock on Kyle who is great at what he does, this was a typical placement pre Senior Bowl.

https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/kyle-crabbs--2020-nfl-draft-big-boardposition-rankings

The following receivers are listed above him (I personally would have him ranked at around 5):-

  1. Jerry Jeudy
  2. CeeDee Lamb
  3. Henry Ruggs
  4. Laviska Shenault
  5. Tee Higgins
  6. Jalen Reagor
  7. Justin Jefferson
  8. KJ Hamler
  9. Donovan Peoples-Jones
  10. Brandon Aiyuk
  11. Tyler Johnson
  12. Quartney Davis
  13. Devin Duvarney
  14. Collin Johnson
  15. KH Hill
  16. Gabriel Davis

Most people that have some talent look good in practice. He underwhelmed this season especially at the end. Someone is going to draft him far too high. He's a day two guy, for sure.

I don't think so. He's this year's "I was overrated, people overcorrected, and now I'm underrated" prospect.

He has performed better than I expected. I still have some concerns, though.

I'm with you, but if my team needs a 3rd or 4th receiver who can come in amd play right away then Van is my dude. I don't think the ceiling is high, but he's so refined and skilled that the floor is.

Guys like Jefferson are probably exciting because my team spent a 1st round pick on a receiver who played like he doesn't know what a route is.

The good news is that this draft has a handful of guys who are really good technicians.

That is most of the WR drafted.  If they make an impact before week 10 it means they can run good routes in college.  Some of them never learn
