Yeah, I regret my vote. It's the best I've seen and I enjoyed it so I voted for it...never thinking it'd actually take the top spot.

I’ll forgive you if you go and watch Hereditary, Cabin in the Woods and The Conjuring.  And A Quiet Place even though it’s not really horror.

I have seen A Quiet Place, but didn't like it quite as much. Really liked both. It didn't help that I watched A Quiet Place with my female companion who hates scary movies and wouldn't stop talking/groaning/being annoying. I'm gonna give it another shot soon before the sequel comes out.

The other 3 are on my list, but I'm not a huge horror guy so I'm not super motivated. I'll eventually watch them + a few more from the nominations.

I really don't want to see It represent the 2010's.  I will campaign hard against It winning.  Let it take the top spot in the brackets, let it get far, but it was not the best horror movie of the decade.

well, that would just assure that the 2010s are eliminated round 1

This is insanely difficult to choose between The Conjuring and Hereditary.  The Conjuring has nothing outside of how scary it was.  Well-made and everything, but no real powerful performances, based on a true story instead of original, basically just corrected/improved upon current tropes instead of trying anything new, but it spawned a massive resurgence in horror and also created its own universe (which sucks).

Hereditary though... Oscar worthy script, actress, director.  No movie unnerved me more.  Although some people hated it, it’s one that will last and endure and be remembered as an iconic horror film while The Conjuring’s endurance will be tainted by its subpar universe and offshoots.

For me personally, its Hereditary

its unique to get an Oscar worthy (if they were legit) performances from a straight up horror movie.

Also, I rarely like movies that arent fun.

This movie wasnt fun. At all. And i loved it. And hated it. I never want to watch it again. It did its job

thats why we need a ranked system lol

lets us put our top 3

Im thinking about it. I want to try nomination bids needing 3+ instead of two. Perhaps a more focused poll will be better. We have plenty of rounds to fine tune this thing lol

I'll just never understand an opinion like this

I mean, don't get me wrong, people's tastes are their tastes, and it's their right to have those tastes (excluding obvious things like kiddie porn or whatever)

But why must movies be "fun" to be enjoyable?   That's an opinion I could never personally share.  To me, movies are visual story telling exercises; and much like life they depict, stories can have all levels of emotion, 'action', seriousness, etc.

Oh well.

I'm glad we're fine tuning on my least favorite film category... Horror. Can't wait til we get to comedy and action/adventure.
