Is there lower tender?

Yes.  That's the 2nd round tender level which is probably wise since he came in as an undrafted FA which would have gotten us nothing had he signed an offer sheet we decided not to match.  It's doubtful any team would make a higher offer that would cost them a 2nd round pick as well.

Is there an option between the 2nd round tender and original round tender?

No.  Only 1st round tender, 2nd round tender, and original round tender.

2020 Projected RFA Tenders

First Round $4,667,000
Second Round $3,278,000
Original Round $2,144,00

We love to beat up on Pace at times over his failures with a couple of higher picks but RRH is yet another lower round pick or UDFA whose either earned a significant 4th year raise or been tendered because they've outplayed their original draft status.

RRH, Kwiatkoski, Callahan, Amos, Howard are all guys chosen in the 4th round or lower who've succeeded beyond expectations based on their draft status.  So in our case mid-late round picks and UDFAs can turn into good players for us.

RRH is pretty overrated around these parts. He flashes big time on occasion but he's extremely inconsistent. Still, he was a great find as a UDFA.

I agree he's inconsistent. However, doesn't mean he always will be, or wouldn't benefit from a higher focus and more playing time. I doubt anyone gives up a second for him, but it wouldn't surprise me, either.

He is a bit overrated here. But, he’s also a high end first guy in the rotation for us and was an adequate starter in 2019 when called upon. He’d probably be an upgrade at starter for at least some other places running a similar scheme making him well worth what the 2nd round tender will pay him this year. I do think especially given our limited cap space had we put the original round tender on him (entitling us to nothing should he sign elsewhere) he probably would have drawn an offer from someone. Even a 2-year $8M deal signed elsewhere structured with a $6.5M cap hit in 2020 (an available option to most teams given the current cap spaces elsewhere) would have been really difficult for us to match.

If he maintains his level of play from the past 2 years in 2020 he’s gonna get a pretty decent chunk of change on the FA market next year. With that, he flashed more in a smaller role in 2018 (34% snaps vs. 51% in 2019) and that may ultimately be his most impactful NFL fit.
