🏀 theJ's Magic Association Rebuild (NBA 2k13)

theJ

Recommended Posts

A few weeks into the season, and it's apparent i need to trade Corey Brewster.  He's upset over his PT since he was a starter last year.  He's actually so upset his OVR decreased by 8.

So, another trade!

Magic Corey Brewer
Clippers Carlos Gomez 2015 2nd Round

Gomez is a 63 OVR, and a first round pick from the last draft.  I'm going to give him some good PT to see if he will get better.  If so, he may be serviceable in a 6th man role next year.

Hawes is a stretch 5 right? Could pair well with Elliot.

Yeah he's got a good mid-range game.  87 med, 71 3PT.  He's good inside too, but doesn't have great post moves.

Good rebounder with a good block rating, avg post defender.

Catching up a little (i'm just past the All-Star break in real time)

  • Slow start in November with a record of 3-10. Defense was above average, but offense was really struggling.
  • Made changes to get the offense moving at a faster tempo and hopefully increase scoring. Had a better December (6-9).
  • Injuries derailed January (5-8) and part of February (4-8) - Dale Burke hurt for 2-4 weeks, Glen Davis hurt 4 weeks, Chad Elliott hurt 4-6 wks, Jameer Nelson hurt for about a week
  • Magic are dominating the Rookies of the Month - Nov Marty, Dec Marty, Jan Chad Elliott
  • 20-35 at All-Star Break (not last!)
  • Marty McGuire is going to be a beast defensively - averaging 2.0 steals per game through All-Star Break

Dale Burke came back just after All-Star Break (good to have you back buddy)

I'm hoping to make a bit of a run in March/April and get to about the 8-10th spot overall.

Scouting I did a bit differently this season.  As a result, the values posted here may change quite a bit over the remaining part of the season.  Due to that, i'm not going to list out all the individual attributes quite yet.  OVR and POT should be fairly close though.

Tracy King looks to be a beast.

Having a very difficult time getting over the hump with this team.  I think i need to reset my coaching preferences next season, and try something different.  Because this is the third year in a row the Magic have been last in scoring.

On the good news front:

2015 Season Awards
MVP Lebron James Heat
ROY Marty McGuire Magic
6th Man JR Smith Bucks
DPOY Dwight Howard Lakers
Most Improved Roy White Rockets
COY Erik Spoelstra Heat

Marty and Chad Elliott made 1st team all rookie.  Carlos Gomez (the guy i traded for mid-season) made 2nd team all rookie.

I feel like the Browns.  @MWil23 how do i break out of this loop?

I’ve found that lowering your expectations and having jaded “I bet _______ (something completely statistically impossible) happens” and then getting said dopamine response that you’re right helps. @LETSGOBROWNIES what else besides alcohol for you?

I bet Dale Burke wins the scoring title and the offense climbs out of the 30th place cellar.

I do feel better.

Man, the potential ratings in this game jump all over the place.  I don't know if that's a result of my NBA scout or the actual results of the season, but every season they chance.  Some drastically.

Very disappointing that Chad Elliott didn't improve.  Meanwhile Marty McGuire's potential went from A to B, and Dale's went from B to A (started his career at B-).

2015 Off-season Player Progression
Position Name New OVR Improvement Prv OVR
SF Dale Burke 86 5 81

Welp, because of my consistent ineptitude, i had the #2 chance at the #1 pick.  I ended up with the #2 pick.

Before i post the updated draft board, here's the player moves this season.

2015 Offseason Moves

Coaches

  • Hired NBA Scout Mike Daley - Level D, Potential A (6 years, 350K per year)
  • Extended contract of Prospect Scout Jonathan Cook - A Level (4 years, 1M/year)
  • Hired trainer Leslie Stone - Level C, Potential C (1 year, 600K) he was the best there was

Players

  • Hedo Turkoglu retired
  • Took Dale Burke's 2 Year Team Option
  • Declined Team Option on Dustin Chambers
  • Nick Young exercised his 1 year player option (4.48M)
  • Letting Jameer Nelson, Glen Davis, Al Harrington, Dustin Chambers and Coby Landry go.
  • No qualifying offers? There were two but I must have messed up because those two guys disappeared as UFA's
  • Offered Robin Cartwright 2 year deal for 3.54M total, but i think he turned it down

The bottom of my roster was decimated.  All those 2nd round picks are basically gone.  So i'll be rebuilding that in FA this year.  I should be much deeper this coming season.

Not bad, but more like "I bet Dale Burke is on his way to winning the scoring title, but a freak double ACL tear injury will derail his hopes and dash his career, while my offense somehow falls a way to fall to worse than dead last in the league."

@LETSGOBROWNIES your turn to give him an example...the poor guy is already too optimistic.

I was going to grab the bottom 4 guys on the lottery list, but then realized i'm going to grab one of the top 5 guys anyway.

I think Tracy King is the obvious answer.  If he goes #1, then likely Andre Sparks (i think he could swing to SG).

Marty will save the team then!

Feeling really good now, thanks.
