You know something is true when Ramssuperbowl99 and I agree on something.

Brees is overrated AF.

His numbers are among the most inflated of any player in the history of the league.  He's basically accountable for his team's running game yards and has benefited more from dumpoff passes, YAC and running up the score than any other QB in NFL history.

Not a top ten QB all-time.

Recency bias is going to get people to freak TF out on me, but it's true.

He is not a top 10 QB all-time.

I somewhat agree but are there really ten better QB's?

Without putting much thought into it, I'd put Brady, Manning, Montana, Elway, Favre, Marino, Unitas, and Graham are no-brainers. That's 8.

I think you can reasonably expect everyone will have a few guys in the next tier they'll like more than Brees, so yeah I wouldn't have him top 10.

I’d add Steve Young personally...and depending on how things shake out, maybe Aaron Rodgers.

I personally would take Brees over Elway, but that’s just me.

nice thought out post. he's not wrong.

here, we are dying for some more laughter after last night. list your top 10 QBs.

Lol because a bad performance by a 42 year old Brees last night somehow means anything in this argument?

In no order:

1. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Peyton Manning
4. Steve Young
5. Joe Montana
6. Bart Starr
7. John Elway
8. Dan Marino
9. Fran Tarkenton
10. Russell Wilson
11. Brett Favre
12. Otto Graham
13. Johnny Unitas

Mahomes probably eclipses him.
A bunch of other quarterbacks who actually didn't choke in the postseason.
A bunch of fringe guys, too.  Moon, Kelly, whose playing era probably puts them ahead of Brees.

Brees doesn't even sniff top 10 if not for landing in the perfect scheme for him.  He's a Tannehill/Pennington type if he stays in San Diego.

Number of single digit interception seasons as a starter:

Brees - 5/19
Brady - 8/20
Rodgers - 11/13

Number of single digit interceptions, 30 TD seasons:

Rodgers - 7/13
Brady - 6/20
Brees - 1/20

For how low Drew's air yards per attempt are compared to Aaron and Brady, when you're that far off from your contemporaries, don't even act like he's the greatest of all-time or even in the top ten.

There are 100 other quarterbacks in NFL history who would blow his production out of the water if they were asked to do what Brees does.

Otto Graham played from 1946-1955 lol let’s not pretend like you have any sort of conception of how good that guy was or wasn’t.

That one just feels like you needed another name under the “no-brainers” to make your point look stronger lol come on now

They would be my 9 and 10, and I would take both over Brees. Watching both Brees and Rodgers, I think that one is cleaner cut since they played in the same era. I saw Rodgers do things on the football field Brees simply couldn't do, and Rodgers' best seasons in that period were both better than anything Brees ever put up in his career and were the best in the league. Both directly and relative to competition, Rodgers is just better.

Young vs. Brees is both longevity versus peak and the time differential.

9 times first or second team all pro. Brees has 4. Are we really gonna compare the peaks here?

Yep. I always laugh when people add players like that when they clearly have no idea how good they really were not being able to watch them, and playing in era's that are a joke compared to today's NFL

Great player, probably falls in the 12-15 range if I sat down and really thought about it.  Maybe a little lower.

I know a lot of fans don't like Favre, but he was undoubtedly the best QB in the league for 3-4 years in a row.  Peter King casting his vote for Carnell Lake in '97 probably screwed Favre out of three consecutive MVPs.

Yeah in an era when there were like 12 quarterbacks playing, not 32 lol.

And like you said - Brees’ contemporaries were all-timers like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, etc. Otto Graham was a 9 time all pro- sure - with significantly, significantly less competition for those accolades. Unitas didn’t hit the scene until ‘58. The first legitimate “modern day” QB whose play style you’d actually even recognize as somewhat similar to the modern game. Otto Graham was winning his all pros over guys you’ve never heard of.

If you wanna be that guy, go ahead, but you have 0% idea how good Otto Graham was. You just don’t. Looking on a website that says “9 time all pro” doesn’t change that.
