A full-circle QB moment: Rams drafted Jared Goff No. 1 overall in 2016 and Carson Wentz went No. 2 to the Eagles. Goff went to the Lions to replace Matthew Stafford, who replaced Goff in LA. And now Wentz will back up Stafford in LA.

And previously, Wentz succeeded Jacoby Brissett in Indianapolis and preceded him in Washington as well, who also went in that same draft.

For a time, Randall Cunningham was viewed as the greatest running quarterback in NFL history. Lamar Jackson has arguably surpassed Cunningham for that title, and will soon surpass Cunningham’s career rushing yardage.

Cunningham retired with 4,928 rushing yards. Jackson currently has 4,877 rushing yards. So with 52 yards — a total Jackson could get in the Ravens’ game on Sunday against the Browns — Jackson would move ahead of Cunningham on the career rushing list.

Only three quarterbacks have more career rushing yards than Cunningham: Michael Vick is first all time with 6,109, Cam Newton is second with 5,628 and Russell Wilson is third with 5,167.

All the quarterbacks ahead of Jackson on the list played a lot longer than Jackson has: Vick played 143 games in his career, Newton played 148, Wilson has played 181 and Cunningham has played 161. Sunday will only be the 80th game of Jackson’s career, so he could have more rushing yards than Randall Cunningham in less than half as many games.

Jackson is probably the best true dual threat QB of all time.

I think he's ahead of where Newton was at this point in their respective careers. Hopefully Jackson stays healthy. Unlike Cam who used his size to his advantage, but what also likely led to his decline, Jackson's style should help him last longer.

If any other coach took a 2-7 record to a European game followed by a bye week, everyone would be wondering whether a loss would result in a firing. It’s entirely fair, then, to pose that question regarding Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Before last Sunday’s loss by the Patriots to the Commanders, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe opened the window to the possibility of Belichick being fired during the season if the Pats lose to Washington and Indianapolis. This would presumably give Jerod Mayo a seven-game opportunity to audition for the permanent job.

A belief has emerged in recent years that Mayo will be the successor to Belichick. Some believe Mayo has been promised the job. That outcome potentially assumes a passing of the torch, not a crash-and-burn exit. At this point, owner Robert Kraft might feel compelled to press the reset button and start over completely, ridding the franchise of all things Bill.

Still, this is the perfect time for a struggling team to make an in-season change. The Patriots have their bye after the game in Germany. And a loss to the Colts, a franchise the Patriots still blame (along with the Ravens) for #Deflategate, would give Kraft even more to think about on the flight home from Frankfurt.

Firing Belichick during the season eliminates one important postseason option for Kraft. If the Patriots terminate Belichick’s employment, Belichick can be traded (as a practical matter) to another team in January. Several teams could be interested, despite Belichick’s recent struggles. Rumors have persisted about the Commanders wanting to hire him. The Buccaneers are a possibility, too. Again, it only takes one owner to run the numbers as to the potential boost in relevance and revenue from hiring one of the greatest coaches in sports history.

Would Bill B be better if he was just the coach and not the gm? Is there any chance that he would even accept not being in charge of the 53?

I'll admit to thinking that he would have more success than Brady post Brady but that was mostly because I figured Brady had such a short window left
