Everyone wants all the Colts people, but they just traded a first for Wentz and took on his huge contract.

Then they didn't even make playoffs when all they had to do was beat one of worst teams in history.

Eagles fleeced them.

One trade doesn't dictate how good a candidate is...the Colts have also done and excellent job of building an OL and secondary through the draft as well as finding playmakers on both offence and defence...they have had really good drafts over the past 3 or 4 seasons.

Yep. They only had a handshake agreement but he and IND's top brass didnt agree on a number of things so NE basically gave him low end HC money to be the OC.

I said a while back that handshake agreements over million dollar contacts in a billion dollar business is absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully IND and McDaniels both learned from that.

Plus, Kraft did a hard sell on him to stay because Brady really wanted him to stay.

I understand that Kraft can be very persuasive when he really wants something.   McDaniels probably got something more than just the public money in that transaction.

@WindyCity had a lot of these conversations.    You can do a lot of good things, but bottom line is always going to be team results.

If you look at ourlads every team has really good players on it that came via the GM including Pace.

I will say Colts did get a bad shake when Luck retired, but they didn't replace him with someone good enough.

Like MN did a lot of good things in drafts, but Cousins wasn't quite good enough.

Team results don't decide how good a candidate for a GM role...that's why we see coaches fired usually before GMs...these guys can only do so much but it is then down to the coaches and players to realise that potential...can't just hire someone from a franchise that wins all the time...it's way more complex than that.

Clear that this is going to be a long list of candidates on both sides which is good...hopefully they learn as they go during these interviews.

I swear they did this with during the Emery saga to the point it looked like they didn't even have a sense of what they were looking for. Then instead of choosing Arians we went full potato and chose Trestman.

Coaches and GMs are a team.  A unit.

You can blame GM for a coach if he picked the coach.

I'm a fan of interviewing a lot of guys initially then cutting it down to a proper shortlist of 3-5 candidates for proper interviews...a lot to be learned from these guys.

Bears requested an interview with the Buffalo Bills’ assistant general manager Joe Schoen for their GM job, per source.

This is good news as well...#2 for me behind Dodds.

Hiring a guy named Joe Shmoe would be such a Bears-like move.
