Phillips joined the Rams as their tight ends coach in 2019 and added the passing game coordinator title in 2021. He spent the previous five seasons coaching tight ends with Washington and worked for the Cowboys from 2007-2013.

dude was a QB in college, for what that's worth.

The Phillips move was pretty much expected, considering O'Connell has been with him since they were both in Washington.

The Pettine move is interesting, but I'd have to imagine it will probably be in the OLB role along with maybe an AHC title as well.

So when is the official hiring of O'Connell going to be announced? I know it's a formality since he's already been "named" the new coach.

There will probably be a social media release sometime today or tomorrow, with a press conference Wednesday or Thursday.

Still no clue how or why Andre Patterson was not good enough for the DL.

They lost Townsend to the Jaguars as the DB coach which is kind of pathetic.   The OC is standard buddy hire but obviously cannot expect much else.  Bringing in two failed Green Bay defensive coordinators not sure I am a fan of that, bringing in Pettine is nice but I would not want him as the DC either, at least Donatell is better than Pettine as the overall DC.

Funny how they want to switch to a 3/4 but obviously it looks a hell of a lot different when you do not have Aaron Donald and you do not have Von Miller.  To Donatell's credit Denver still was solid even without Von Miller or Chubb for a lot of the year.  They got great sack production from the ends, curious if they target Wyatt 2nd round if he falls for that DE spot.  Then again they were solid because they had the deepest secondary in the NFL so there is that.  Vikings have arguably the worst even with Peterson think about without.

Will be interesting who he has as the DB coach.  Curious if they just take the Denver DB coach which was Christian Parker but I guess not Denver already hired him.

Hard to not be a little uneasy though in the Super Bowl, the Vikings head coach is not calling any of the plays and is just there to talk to the QB when he goes to the sidelines so he was basically a glorified QB coach for the Rams when McVay did most of it all especially the playcalling.  Not to mention it is uneasy that basically all these dudes just copy principles that McVay used and bring them to their team and make it off as their own, LaFleur did it, Zac Taylor did it and now Kevin O'Connell will be doing it.  Even like last night they said the Rams and Bengals basically run the same offense which to me is very dependent on getting the ball out quickly and always having a quick option to release to.  Also a lot of bunch sets with the wide receivers in close which came from Kyle Shanahan which came from his dad so obviously it is a copy cat league.  Also not sure Justin Jefferson will ever block like Cooper Kupp does, same with Thielen and his injury issues so that could be a problem also.

You’re assuming he would have stayed as the DL coach. When have you ever seen a coach take a demotion to remain with a team?

I believe it has happened, but it's very. very rare. and likely only in the instance where the coach is at the tail-end of his career and doesn't want to go anywhere else.

Patterson took a demotion with the Giants so is obviously willing to not be the assistant head coach or co-defensive coordinator.

"Patterson wanted to stay in Minnesota, but O'Connell and the Vikings made the choice to go in a different direction, according to the Star Tribune's Ben Goessling."

"Zimmer gave Patterson the co-defensive coordinator title in 2020 and also the assistant head coach title in 2021."

Andre Patterson is the DL coach on the New York Giants a 3/4 team that have Don Martindale former Ravens DC and their new DC and obviously will be playing a 3/4.  So he is back to the DL coach which he is obviously fine with and in a 3/4 which is different for him also, clearly the Vikings made an awful mistake getting rid of him in my eyes but they wanted to move on from Zimmer in every way.

Will see how it goes but it was really pathetic to let him go especially if he wants to stay as the DL coach.  He is one of the most respected DL coaches in the NFL and just to can him to go in a "different direction" is pretty pathetic.  If that is the case why keep McCardell?  The one guy who I really like on the staff currently and was a great thing to bring him back, too bad they missed it big time with Andre Patterson.

Different team.

And as this quote has been discussed before, there’s no context to what role Patterson wanted to stay in.

You’re simply trying to make conjecture and assumptions sound like facts to fit your misguided displeasure.
