How long should a coach have tenure on a team?

Might as well say keen or groovy after every post.

So Mike Tomlin making the AFC Championship game 7 years ago and then coasting shouldn't affect his job security but Pete Carroll should be on the hot seat since he has coasted in the 8 years since their Super Bowl loss?

Carroll lost 3 playoff games with horrific garbage coaching.

  • 3 yards and a cloud of turf pebbles offense in Dallas
  • ice the missing kick
  • Just Say No to Beast Mode

Tomlin did not deserve to be fired after his SB. Carroll absolutely beyond any doubt did.

Its not about do you think he should be fired but about if he earned it which the worst blunder in NFL history counts.

He was fired by Collinsworth and Michaels in real time and by millions of Americans during and after.

Now show me where Tomlin did the same.

You are absolutely hung up on ignoring circumstances.  (this is where LOL goes, right?)

Carroll was 25-7 over that two year stretch on the verge of back to back SB victories and deserved to be fired because he didn't hand the ball off? I mean they've still consistently been one of the best teams in the league. It's like saying the Packers should also move on from Rodgers because he's still coasting on his Super Bowl win from over a decade ago.

The Steelers got blown out in the wild card game in each of the last two seasons and Tomlin is also the coach that lost a playoff game to Jaguars backup TE, Tim Tebow.

He has playoff losses against Baker Mayfield/Tim Tebow and in their last 4 playoff games they've allowed an average of 43 ppg, great coach.

Barry Switzer was 34-14 with 5 playoff wins and a SB in 3 years before one 6-10 got him fired.

Was he somehow not a moron because his team was loaded with talent?

Aikman has been very public that he had to be a player coach because Switzer was a zero leadership fool.

In a world where everyone almost never agrees on anything, everyone agreed that Pete Carroll was a moron in that Super Bowl.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 5 years and in their 3 playoff appearances they've given up 40+ in each game. (45 ppg avg)

If you keep your team in the playoffs you will stay, regardless of playoff/super bowl wins. People forget it's about keeping your team relevant and in the hunt. That sells tickets and these the real goal.  It's a business first.

The only current head coaches that have been to multiple Super Bowls are Bill, Reid, Tomlin, Carroll, and McVay. Bill is the only one that has multiple Super Bowl wins.

I can actually give you a playoff game loss that might be Belichick's fault. He went 4th down crazy vs Denver in the 2015 AFCCG.

FGs in those cases might have led to a win at the end.

Now look at his body of work where his incredible coaching has contributed to 40+ playoff wins. (like neutralizing Joe Montana 3x)

  • Do your job team unity
  • Incredible game planning (Holding McVay to 3 points is his 3rd most famous SB game plan)
  • Awesome defensive schemes
  • Having an incredible feel for moments like when Pete wet his pants.

Pete is just a clown who drove the Seahawks into the rocks 2x and Denver imploded the other year.

What exactly has he done besides ride on the LoB and Russell Wilson's improvisation and survival skills?

Is he an X's and O's master? What exactly is it?

Does he inspire team unity (Sherm and co hated Wilson's guts very publicly)

Does he draft and bring in the talent? (not even close)

Man that guy can really coach up an O-line, am I right? Not like its been a problem for 10 years.

I just don't see it.

Fill us all in on the genius. We are dying to know what this guy actually does.

The LoB broke up after 2016. Sherm and Chancellor both got hurt in 2017 and they were never the same.

Dude has exactly one playoff win since then.

It was in Philly after a Clowney cheap shot knocked out Wentz and 40 year old Josh McCown had to play QB.

That Eagles team was just plain bad besides Wentz who had a miracle season to get them to 9-7. He played 9 snaps in that game.

Pete gets the same credit as BOB beating Connor Cook.

I say keep the dude for 20 more years. (add spiffy emoji acronym here)

The Seahawks have been to 2 Super Bowls, won one, and had 9 consecutive winning seasons. So whatever he's doing, it has led to results, they've been one of the most winningest teams in the league since they hired him.

Should Tomlin be on the hot seat?

First off, Marvin Lewis was the definition of mediocre.    He squandered so much talent and his teams were always extremely undisciplined.

Secondly, Tomlin is pushing it in terms of overstaying his welcome, too.    People can make all the excuses they want for him, but this teams constantly has the same issues every year under Tomlin and regularly fail to learn from past mistakes.    With Ben gone and Colbert leaving, this finally feels like its completely Tomlins team.   We will see if anything changes for the better, but I doubt it.
