Rome Eternals

Offense

We are going to continue this week with our aerial raid against t team with a suspect secondary.  We will continue to come out in a four wide, however in a pistol look as we want to establish more outside running this week with a solid interior for Seoul.  However we are going to be airing it out more often than not.

We will mainly be using hurry up here as we don’t think Seoul  has much in terms of quality depth they can rotate in.  Later in the first half and moving into the second half this should start to favor us

With our WR depth and the injuries mounting in the secondary for Seoul, we expect to see a plethora of zone coverage.  Seoul generally likes to use press zone to help with their pass rush so we will be using rub routes and motion to use this strategy against them.  We will also use some combo routes to give Herbert some easy reads.  If for some reason, we see them playing man, it will likely be in a cover one so we’ll send waddle deep on the side with renfrom running up the opposite seam to keep the middle safety in the middle.  Waddle should be able to run past his defender who generally is pressing or we can hit them with a double move with route technician Cooper

We have both slant man Michael Thomas and Mr First down Hunter Renfrow underneath to keep the chains moving while we have field stretcher extraordinaire Jaylen Waddle and the well rounded Amari Cooper on the outside.  We’ll generally move Renfrow in motion to determine coverage and allow for some trips formation when we see a zone being played to allow for our strategy above using floods, seams and an occasional bubble screen.  We will also roll in Juju for some five wide looks to further  expose a light secondary group.

We have a really nice backfield duo of Swift and Harris that we will be using today with each back seeing about half the snaps.  We are going to use more of an outside zone running strategy this week utilizing the athleticism of our guards to pull and get into the second level.  This will help us in opening up a play action game as well with a really young secondary group that will be likely to bite

In short yardage we will bring in Thomas and Otton for a two TE look and will also run a naked boot out of this after running a few times.

Defense

Seoul comes in with nice balanced offensive look this week that leans on the running game and play action that focuses more on the TE and RBs than the WR

In order to stop this kind of offense you need to have a run stopping front and we believe we bring that with our front four.  While Autry is listed as the starter, he won’t see much action on early downs with Tuttle seeing some looks inside.  We like Davenport and Judon on the outside to contain and force everything inside to Tomlinson and our trio of superb LB.  This strategy also should keep Wilson in the pocket and force his receivers to win battles instead of going into the scramble drill.  Luckily with our LB depth, when they motion a TE to one side of the LOS we really don’t have to do much besides slide the LB a bit to that side as our guys can cover.  We will rotate our DL heavily to keep everyone fresh as we like a lot of our reserves to not provide a dropoff in talent. On obvious passing downs we are going to bring in Houston to line up over Fant who he destroyed last week.

For the coverages, Humphrey is going to get the tall receiver while Dean will take the fast WR.  We really don’t know who they might be starting this week out of their options but we feel our guys can lock them down regardless.  Reed will be the nickel corner this week and his assignment will be to run with Mecole Hardman to match up the speed..  Jackson gets whoever is left in four wide

Kelce is the weapon we need to take away today.  We have a two part plan for this.  First we are going to line a LB up right on top of him and bump him to slow his release and throw off timing.  Then we have Kyle Hamilton who is going to be running around with him.   The bumping LB is going to end up as the middle of the field spy/cover one robber.  Doing this also puts Hamilton in the box to serve as an extra run defender.  An olb will have Friermuth when they are in a balanced set with Bolton on the RB while Bolton will take Pat in the two TE to one side strategy with the opposite LB taking the RB.

We will occasionally have our rub LB blitz after the rub and will sometimes play the cover three with even an occasional zone blitz, but we like our talent advantage here to not get to crazy or fancy

Seoul Dragons

Motivation:

Offensive Strategy:
Formations:  12 Personnel(40%) , 11 Personnel(30%), 02 Personnel(15%), 21 Personnel(15%).
Scheme:  Pass(50%),  Run(50%)
Tempo:  Normal

Passing:   We will be bringing quite a few different formations to this matchup with Rome.  We will start out with our normal 2 TE set featuring Kelce/Freiermuth, we still believe these two together bring mismatch opportunities in the intermediate passing game.   We will continue with motions and chips on the edges to help disguises coverages.   We will stack both Freiermuth/Kelce on occasion to help create some rub routes and free Kelce of any bracket coverages.    In our 11 Personnel, we will keep a balance between Kelce/Freiermuth on the field, to keep each fresh.  We want to spread the field in this formation, splitting the Tight End out wide.   We plan to run plenty of RPO and quick hitters to get our playmakers the ball early.   In our 02 Personnel, We want to keep the same set up, spreading 5 wide, with our 2 TE’s.    We plan to run plenty of quick hitters on the outside, and look for deep passes towards the middle.    We will bring a 2 RB shot gun formation to this matchup on occasion, we will focus on Play Actions and RPO’s out of this formation.   We aren’t going to bring a ton of deep passing to this matchup, we want Russ to focus on working the underneath routes and really working on getting the Play Action and RPO game rolling in sustained drives.

Running:  We’re once again bringing a power running scheme into this game.   We won’t get too cute in the running game this week, our main focus will remain North/South football between the C/B Gaps.   Rome has a pretty strong front 7, but we believe we can wear down that Interior Line.  We plan to give Javonte 25+ Carries this week out of a variety of formations.    Run/Pass Ratio will remain balanced out of all formations,  aside from the obvious 02 Personnel grouping.

Defensive Strategy:

Formations:  3-3-5 Nickel(70%) ,  3-2-6 Dime(30%)

This week we take on a very talented Rome offense.   We will bring a base 3-3-5 defense to this matchup.   We want to beef up the front 3 with Lawrence, Pierce, and Foley all getting the start.   Frank Clark and Joe Tryon will both mix between offball and onball this week, we will mix up our formation in an attempt to get the best matchup on the outside.

Passing:  Our pass defense will be very zone heavy this week, we will mix between Cover 1 and Cover 3 the majority of this game.     We’re coming with a blitz heavy attack this week, and want to send constant pressure through the interior of this Rome offense.    Joe Tryon and Frank Clark will play mostly contain/sift into shallow zones on the outside.   We anticipate a spread attack this week from Rome, so we want to use our edge play to help take away the short passing windows, with pressure up the middle.

In Sub-package we will run quite a bit more man, we think we have some CB’s that are up to the task of battling with Rome’s WR’s.  Majority of calls in this formation will be basic on the back end, over 2 press man.   We will be sending an extra man inside, we like the flexibility of Demario and K’von and we will rotate them on blitzes and RB coverage.

We won’t assign man assignments for this game.  CB’s will man this spots.

Left Side: Eli Apple
Right Side:  Kyler Gordon
Slot1:  Nate Hobbs  (will man TE if on field)
Slot2:  Taron Johnson
K’von/Demario:  RB/TE

Rushing:  Rome typically comes out with a balanced attack, and has some a nice group at RB.  With that said, we aren’t going to be too much extra effort into limiting the Running back.   With the extra beef up front, and sending inside blitzes.   We believe this will put our LB’s in excellent position to make plays in the running game.

I'm not sure how you send an extra man, play two lb, and have two safeties in a over 2 man coverage while playing four corners unless you're playing 12 dudes or just ignoring the RB out of the backfield when you blitz unless by blitz you mean bring just four guys?

I needed 12 to do what I wanted.

Nah,  Essentially only have 3 down lineman.  Extra man was poor wording, meant we would be sending extra pressure, in the middle, from an off ball position.

Joe Tryon - Dexter Lawrence - Frank Clark

Demario - K’Von

4 CB’s
2 Safeties high.

got ya, so not actually a blitz per say.  just sending four guys with one of the two lb being the fourth

I just feel like it's too early for Seoul to beat Rome. The gameplans didn't sway me much one way or another but Rome is just better on both sides of the ball. It may not be the same later in the season as some of Seoul's younger players find success, but for now the Road team gets a comfortable win.

I like the two tight sets by Seoul I think it’s their strongest formation by far but I don’t like Bateman on the bench. If this was a team with a better performing Russ I think they could be a lot like the Ravens offensively and I like the use of RPO. I just don’t think some key contributors are there yet to compete with the level that Rome’s offense is operating at. Seoul has so much young talent that by mid to end season they may be on the upswing.

Relatively even game but two things are decidedly in Rome’s favor.

Rome WRs vs Seoul secondary

I think Waddle and Cooper are primed for big weeks.

Secondly, I think Rome does enough early that it’s hard for Williams to get to the 25+ carries scripted for him. Russell can win games with his arm but Rome does have the secondary to handle Seoul’s receivers. Hamilton has been iffy so far but matchup with guys like Kelce leads to better results then being last line against Tyreek Hill.

Seoul is so close in this one with Rome having no center on available.  The only saving factor for Rome is one of their backups college experience there.  I think that would give enough protection for Rome to outscore Seoul

27-17

Fortner is the jags center.

Odd, where I looked has him listed at G (but he was the one that played a year a C in college).  Maybe in the future list who is backup where bc based on your gameplan your backup C would be Braden Smith based solely on what you have.  I still got there and it didn't change the outcome but it would help in the future
