warfelg
They did that to disguise coverage. They lacked a true lock down CB1 and used a mix of coverages to keep the QB off balance and taking away players. You're really attributing something to someone who has nothing to do with why they did something.

It's really not a stretch to say they didn't value Edmunds as a pass defender in the deeper parts of the field. They actively trusted corners, Kazee, and even Norwood there more than him in situational football while they continually shoved him in the box. Inverting coverages isn't going away, but it also wouldn't shock me if they play them less with 2 guys they trust to cover more space on the backend. Add a potential draft pick that can cover space too and your looks can get a lot more varied than they were with Edmunds.
bigben07MVP
Is drafting Simpson to replace Edmund’s role a possibility?

I really think this guy would be a great replacement as well. The size against NFL tight ends is the only thing that concerns me.

I’d rather have two as well, but I think one would go a long way to allowing us to take a big step up. I want to get a guy like Forbes, JPJ, or Cam Smith and then get Jaylon Jones later. This class is deep enough that there’ll be solid starters drafted in the mid rounds.
Chieferific
Personally I "gamble" and target Forbes @ #32 then look for a Turner/Brents/J. Jones type later.

Forbes all the way, it's just "where do we draft him" One option is to trade down at bit from 17 and get more picks. Same goes for the 32 pick, maybe trade down a few spots

jebrick
So Austin does not fit what they do as an offense? Or Austin is not a slot WR. Or it is a smoke screen before the draft

I feel likes he’s a poor man’s Tyreek Hill Edit - He was a 22% slot player at Memphis https://steelersdepot.com/2022/05/study-calvin-austin-route-tree-breakdown/ Edited March 28, 2023 by bigben07MVP
