[Scene - heavily wooded mountain area. A small cabin sits next to a river. An unknown man is standing, facing the cabin, chopping wood. Methodical, precise, intelligently working through a log pile]

Unknown Man: 36… (chop). 37… (chop). 38… (chop).

[Over the horizon, a helicopter flys directly towards the log cabin. The copter is emblazoned in Red and Gold, with the 49ers logo on the side. The unknown man stops chopping wood as the helicopter lands behind the man. 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch get off the helicopter and walk to the unknown man]

Shanahan: It’s time. We need you.

[unknown man starts chopping wood again]

Lynch: Jimmy is down. I repeat, Jimmy is down.

Unknown man (chopping wood): Sorry to hear that.

Shanahan: Get to the chopper, we can have you ready by…

Unknown man: I’m retired.

Lynch: Dammit man, we don’t have time! We can make this happen! We got McCaffery!

Shanahan: Think about it… what’s two things you don’t have? A Super Bowl ring…

[Shanahan throws a red jersey at the unknown man]

Shanahan: And one of these to add to your collection.

[The unknown man picks up the jersey and stretches it out. The number 14 is on the back. The name “Fitzpatrick” is emblazoned above the number. The man turns around - a two foot long beard comes into view. The unknown man… is Ryan Fitzpatrick].

Fitzpatrick: McCaffery?

Lynch: And Deebo. Aiyuk. Kittle. Big Trent. And a defense led by the good Bosa brother.

Shanahan: All ready to KILL AND DIE in your command. This group is battle tested and hungry, they just need a tough bastard like you to lead the way.

[Fitzpatrick looks at the jersey again. He never had a 49ers one. Fitz drops the axe and holds his hand out - the lightning crackles, and a football helmet comes flying to him, Mjolnir style]

Fitzpatrick: You tell ‘em I’m coming… and you tell ‘em I’m bringing the magic.

[Fitzpatrick stares straight at the camera, breaking the 4th wall with his gaze]

Fitzpatrick: …The Fitzmagic.

[post credit scene ends, credits roll]

Great news. It might even galvanize the team. Hopefully Jimmy can make enough progress in his rehab to make it back by the wild card round.

49ers just need to pull a '76 Steelers, and dominate the rest of the way with Glock13.

5 games left. If they can at least get 2 with rook, that should be enough to make the playoffs.

I mean if Purdy continues to play at this level, moreso if he goes to the nfc championship, there's no way in hell you're coming back to Jimmy G. He's done unless Purdy ****s the bed and you still win in the playoffs.

It's almost like Purdy is getting the Cooper Rush treatment right now. 👌

Or the Davis Mills treatment.

Or the Tyler Huntley treatment.

Or the Nick Mullins treatment.

Or the Mike White treatment.

You’d really think after the 5th time, people would get it… but alas…

Glad future franchise QB Bailey Zappe didn’t get mentioned here, that about seals the deal.

BUT I WANT OUR DISSAPOINTMENT TO BE ALL THAT MUCH SWEETER!!!! :)

Ain't gonna lie, the names of a few guys have still be swirling in my head the higher the Brock buzz goes. Kyle Allen, Mike White, Matt Flynn, Cooper Rush...oof it's gonna suck if he comes back, and crashes down hard like those other yahoos.

It's not the fact that Purdy is playing awesome right now, it's the fact that Jimmy G can only return in the middle of the playoffs, which means Purdy will have to win at least one playoff game to give him the opportunity to return, AND you're not benching a guy who led you to a playoff win...

A few things on this:

- Wins aren’t a QB stat. Any playoff win is a team effort, not a Brock Purdy effort.

- Handing the ball off to Christian McCaffery 25 times isn’t exactly leading anything. Jimmy Garoppolo can do that, plus throw a few TD passes to Brandon Aiyuk.

Even with the last two games as wins, it’s apparent the 49ers offense is scaled back. Purdy has the benefit of limited game tape available to him as well as one game played in a short week, so just assuming he’ll maintain this level while teams gain tape and have a full week to review his tendencies? That’s not how it works.

Which is the only argument Jimmy G has, let's be real.

How are you benching a guy who led you to a nfc championship game ? (if he gets there) For a guy like Jimmy who's coming off injury, in a big game?

Scaled back ? They scored 35 against the Bucs, and Jimmy G always struggled against Seattle so let's not like he was going to put up big numbers, without Deebo.

Not really - he’s drastically reduced his turnover plays this season, while maintaining his efficiency in completion percentage and TDs. It was his best performance since his first season in SF, it was really a resurgence on his part.

If by “lead” you mean nearly 10 less passes a game on average and running the ball more than previous games, it’s easy - you go with the guy who has more experience in these games, who has actually played in high leverage situations such as these.

The only concern is injury, and that’s vetted out by the training staff. If Jimmy G is healthy, he starts. It allows you to throw the ball much more efficiently and with greater impact than you’re doing now.

Jimmy G averaged roughly 31 attempts/game in his starts. Purdy averages 23/game in his starts. Purdy averages 113 passing yards/game, Jimmy G averages over 100 yards/game more (221). Christian McCaffery averaged 12.5 carries with Jimmy G, 20 carries with Purdy. It’s pretty blatant - with Jimmy G, the 49ers throw the ball more, push the ball downfield more and rely on the run less.

That is scaling back an offense, regardless of points per game. The 49ers are putting an emphasis on the run now that Jimmy is out.
