2023 Free Agency

Its still 6 weeks or so away, but I think we can expect some big spending in 2023. We have cap room and we dont have anyone due for a crazy extension anytime soon.

Right now we are sitting at about 37 million in cap space. We can free up a lot more in a variety of ways

Trading Cooks gives us an extra 16 million. This is gonna be difficult unless he agrees to restructure his deal

Cutting Collins gives us 4 million
Kirksey gives us 5 million
Hughes gives us 4 million

Those 3 cuts alone would free up the space to sign a legit starter on defense.

Tunsil can be cut for a savings of 18 million, but then we have a massive hole at LT. He's wanting to redo his deal, so we could perhaps give him a bigger longer deal that will save us money in the short term. We can afford this if we are going the rookie QB route.

We are in need at WR, but if cooks decides to stay and is motivated to play under a new staff and QB and Metchie can live up to his potential post cancer treatments. We could have a decent WR group, especially if we took one at 12 or 33.

I think we’ve gotten way too excited about the Ryans hire. We are gonna be a 5-7 win team next year. Our roster is a mess. Ryans has no experience. Our OC has never been an OC before.

5 - 7 wins in the AFSouf might get you a PO spot ;)

It can't be worse than the past two years which is why we're excited. Our roster is a mess, but we have a ton of draft capital plus the 4th most cap room with FA coming up. The AFC South is still a winnable division. DeMeco might not have experience, but he's one of the best, young coaches in the game. We have hope and a cognitive, long-term plan for the first time in awhile.

5-7 wins would be where I always projected this team to go at this point in the post-BoB/Watson era. 2024 is when this team should aspire to have more wins than losses.

Texans finished 4th overall in evaluation of teams put together by NFLPA via the players

"The biggest complaint among player respondents was that the Club is one of only two teams league-wide that does not offer either a steam room or a sauna. As one would expect for a team with ratings this high, 97% of the locker room believes the McNairs are willing to invest money into upgrading the facilities."
