The more I look at it, Im not sure we are going to be very eager on the Free Agent front here.

Alot of us are still thinking of this in terms of making another move to compete. Im still not sure they are looking to compete necessarily, at least not as the top priority this season. Alot of the DEs that have been suggested (Clowney, Clark, Floyd) are 30, and likely wouldnt be part of our future. Ngakoue is already 28, and even Carl Lawson if he were to be cut is also about to be 28.

Im just looking at it as, if there is no chance they could be part of the future, Im not sure we are signing them at this point. Probably be more likely to be very active at cut down time, even though its only 1 official cut this year.

Idk man, when Poles left JMS on the board to double dipp DTs and get an eberflus CB I think Poles is in win-now mode and will do something significant at DE before the start of the season.

It's the only hole on the roster, ya we ineXPERIENCED all oVER but now have starting quality talent and depth everywhere

Poles just can't run it back at DE

It’s the exact opposite of that. JMS is a ready made NFL center. Sure he has limited upside, but he would hit the ground running.

Taking upside projects in Dexter and Pickens is no where near “win now”. Same with Stevenson who we hope can grow into and NFL corner, but might have to transit to safety.

He’s not running it back. He has added 2 DEs as free agents, Walker will play plenty at DE and Green is for sure mostly a DE

I've had time to recover from JMS, having Cody and Lucas on the roster played a significant role I'm sure, but I also think that Poles is in more of a win-now/why-not-us  mode  than I originally thought...

With Dexter Pickens we can at least stop the run, and with Stevenson and our new LBs everything else behind the DL is very well set...

#10  I LOVE DARNELL WRIGHT ! he is exactly what we want for the OL  !!

Love the balls on Poles to go Dex Stev Pickens with the last of our premiumish picks

BUT then the heavens open up WIDE  and  Roschon Johnson & Tyler Scott fall to us and  we are now set at WR and RB ...I'm expecting a serious Taysom Hill package for RJ, get JF off the field some to save him and keep pressure on the D rushing wo JF. A young team that believes and gets hot and doesn't know any better, can win ALOT of games, just saying...

We now have starting quality talent AND depth at every position except DE, and maybe S (depth) and KR (3 of our picks have KR exp)

looking at the overall roster and seeing the quality of talent everywhere, is how I got over JMS

How do you figure ??

without Dex and Pickens we have ZERO on the IDL except for Billings and Jones

without JMS we still have Whitehair and Patrick

Taking Dex and Pickens means we can at least compete in stopping the run... and then our LBs and secondary do some heavy lifting

Walker is a very solid add at DE, I like him alot  but we had absolutely nothing in the middle ...now we have a 4 man IDL rotation and Walker can kick inside some too, we will be ALOt better  at stopping the run, JMS does far less for us NOw in moving  the needle

The Bears aren't winning **** this year. If you think this is win-now mode, I look forward to your new topic all about firing Poles for the Bears winning 7 or 8 games

Drafting 2DTs and  CB (press specialist) does way more  to move the overall needle than locking down C for the next decade. This was the point of discussion for me

BUT yes, common sense would suggest that if you have starting caliber talent and depth with upside everywhere, having added 6 difference makers on offense and 4-6 diff makers on defense you should get better.

Why can't we win 8-10 games and sneak into the POs, esp if we can stop gap DE with something(s) decent ??

What Poles did was make sure we can at least stop the run and stay in games with our offense, secondary and LBs.

I get what you are saying.

Getting a good and old DE for a year or 2 is not good for the future.

If we win 8 game with Gibson or Robinson having 10 sacks, then this is better than 8 wins with a one year DE who got 12 sacks.

We are doing this for the future.

Just a thought... :)

The likelihood they take Fields off the field in any scenario other than injury or blowout is practically zero. If they’re running some kind of gimmick Wildcat thing with Johnson they’ll almost certainly want Fields on the field even if his only role there is misdirection. HE is the one who creates pressure on the defense. I can’t think of a single good reason any Wildcat set should ever start any way other than with JF in a jet motion as a guy who may be able to get the ball running laterally with 4.4 speed but who can also throw the ball 65 yards down the field. That’s the stuff that makes the Wildcat work.

Also, the Wildcat is ******* dumb, and is almost never effective.

I wish I could like this comment like 10x

Now I wouldnt hate seeing some misdirection/misalignment plays where Roschon (or whoever) takes a direct snap, but keep Fields in the backfield to keep the Defense keyed on him

I'm not talking about the stupid wildcat  haha "  but yes we will run some of that

I'm talking about a legit passing option Taysom Hill package that helped the Saints win games.   Roschon Johnson is a qb,  or enuff of one   ....not to mention it gets our franchise qb, who runs and takes plenty of hits, off the field while keeping Plenty of pressure on the opponent's D

JF is a  GAMER and maybe needs to be protected from himself some  !

If the Bears take Fields off the field to have Johnson throw, Getsy should be fired. What an awful ******* idea

yes, develop ! let the young talent get experience  but I have  ZERO faith in Gipson and very little faith in Robinson

We have Rasheem Green and Dm Walker  both 270 and should help vs run

Green had 6.5 sacks in his one season as a starter, Walker had a career high 7 last season,

Poles at least needs to add one more vet DE to a 1-2 yr deal, a deal that pretty much resets next yr and doesn't impact the cap at all moving forward  ...we still hv 35 or so mill available

Its pretty reckless going into the season w only Walker Green Gipson and Robinson

Do you feel the same way about the Saints  & Taysom Hill  ? Do you feel like a guy recruited to Texas as a qb cannot throw enough to keep that option open  ??

please explain wwhY this is such an awful idea,  Saints made it work very well...

Taysom Hill is a QB who can also run. He played 5 years of QB at BYU and played 37 games at the position. Roschon Johnson was a high school QB who threw two passes in four years at Texas, for a total of two yards. He’s a running back. Taking Fields off the field so Johnson can play QB not in a Wildcat is an even worse idea than doing so to in a Wildcat. Like, WAY worse.
