NBA 2k23 Franchise - MKnight82 & Flatlyner Dual League

BOOO

This inspired me to buy 2k23 for $11, I have done a couple rushed MyLeague's and we just had an undrafted player (another team) win ROY with 29ppg (on the Celtics who lost the Finals the previous year). He is 86 overall and has 13 badges. So check the undrafted pool I guess lol

The cpu cuts a lot of its 2nd round picks immediately

2024 NBA DRAFT

nba-draft-2021-adam-silver.png

Draft #2 is going to be much different than the first one. Flatlyner has the #1 overall pick, so I didn’t even bother putting the top prospect on my draft board. Also, I have two solid starters in Stevenson and Willis so I have two of spots locked down. That kind of eliminates certain prospects at the top (mostly PFs). There’s a significant dropoff after the top prospect Powel.  Really there are two other SGs who I consider starter material, and then I think there’s another dropoff after them. Those two SGs are Roland Arthur and Pete Hill. They are listed as DE’s #2 and #3 prospects, but two of the three mock drafts by the CPU have one of them falling to 5. Arthur has good size at 6’7” with 99 SPD 81 ACC 88 VERT. Unfortunately he only has two badges, but across the board his stats (other than two) are better than Hill’s. Pete Hill is shorter, somewhere around 6’3” to 6’5” (there’s some variance in the scouting) and he isn’t as good of an athlete, with 78 SPD, 89 ACC and 85 VERT. He does have 7 badges though, 5 of which are defensive. On top of that he has 95 three point shot and 95 perimeter defense (Arthur’s is 76 three point, 89 perimeter defense). Other than slower than average speed he’s the ideal 3&D. I would say Arthur projects as a more talented all around player (his ball handling and passing are suprerior), while Hill projects as a high end 3&D specialist

If one of them falls to 5 that makes it a pretty easy decision for me. If they were somehow both available at 5 it would make for a very hard decision. This early in the rebuild and with a higher potential rating I’d probably lean towards taking Arthur, but in the back of my mind I know I will need an elite perimeter defender to slow down Powell when I play Flatlyner, so Hill is really appealing.

After these two things get harder.  There’s another tier of guys, SF Billy Hardaway, SF Lyle Dawson, & PF Terrance Samuels. I’m not sure that any of these players project as long term starters if I land higher end prospects down the road, but I think they have a high floor as contributors off the bench and maybe I get lucky and they become a starter. Let’s start with SF Hardaway, he has 7’5” wingspan and can shoot 3s. He’s a terrible perimeter defender, but I know from experience that wingspan will play effectively for me on defense and rebounding when I play user games. He also is a solid interior defender so he could project as a Stretch 4. He also only has 1 badge which is a bummer. Then there’s SF Dawson, who my scout has having one of the highest potential ratings in this class, plus 92 SPD, 92 VERT and the highest dunk rating in this class. He cannot shoot at all though, so he would be a slasher only and while he’s not as bad with perimeter defense as Hardaway, he doesn’t have starting quality defense IMO (although he does have a solid 76 steal rating). He probably projects as a 6th man and leading scorer off the bench type. That isn’t ideal for the #5 overall pick. Then there’s PF Samuels, and I know I said I wouldn’t consider any PFs but he’s an interesting prospect. He has a pretty good potential rating, and the 2nd highest block rating (84) and the highest steal rating (86) in the entire class. His player comparison is Darymond Green and I can see why. He projects as a swiss army knife on defense and has two valuable defensive badges (challenger and off ball pest). He’s athleticism, 74 SPD, 70 ACC, 66 VERT, is good enough for a PF. The issue is he would have to be a bench player for me as I’m never going to play Stevenson at the 5 (or the 3). His rebounding is also really mediocre 66 OREB 58 DREB. All things considered I think I would take Hardaway for the size and shooting out of this group.

After this group it basically comes down to projecting bench role players from who I think will be available at 14. My main target is probably SG Zac Jenkins who has a great wingspan (6’11”) for a guard and is a lights out shooter (97 three point shot) and 5 shooting badges (plus 2 others). His downside is his mediocre potential rating and subpar defense. But I project him to likely be a 6th man role. That’s probably the best I’m going to do at 14. I would be really surprised if he’s not available at 14, but its pretty slim pickings after him.  I’d probably target a PG, Brook Lane looks solid but he doesn’t have a good potential rating either (but he doesn’t have the badges to mitigate this). He projects as a solid defender and pass first type PF. PG Marion has better ratings across the board compared to Lane, but he has an even lower potential rating and is 5’9”. I know from experience that trying to drive to the basket with a player that small is practically impossible. So Marion might sim better but I think he will be worthless in user games.

Neither of the Centers really jump out to me. Webber is the top rated Center in the class but is pretty mediocre at rebounding and interior defense, which are the two most important traits I want a center to have. He also has no defensive badges. Sanders has a higher potential rating but can literally do nothing offensively. He’s also a poor athlete, and while a better rebounder and defender than Webber, still not all that great.

With the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Las Vegas Hustlers select:

The Great Prospect of all time.....

PF Wade and Samuels go 2 & 3.

Hardaway went #4!  Insane!

With the 5th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the VA Beach Neptunes select:

SG Roland Arthur, Villanova

- Interesting development with Arthur dropping.  The crazy thing is both SGs were available which is nuts.  I stuck to my board and went with the guy with higher potential, but I feel like I might regret passing on Hill.

Pretty disgusting Hill dropped to 7 and @Flatlyner took him.

Alright, as expected SG Zac Jenkins is still available at 14. He's the best shooter in the class and will make a great 6th man.

With the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft the VA Beach Neptunes select:

SG Zac Jenkins, USC

- Should be a high floor lower ceiling role player type off of the bench.  He's the best shooter in this draft class and my roster lacks shooting.

Sorry I can't commentate much else on these picks while its ongoing, the cpu sims a pick literally every other second then we only have 90 seconds to make our picks (the game does not let you pause the draft).

SECOND ROUND BOARD
Name Position School OVR Age Height Weight Wingspan DE Rank INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS POT Badges Comparison Ceiling

Dunn actually went #18 overall in the first round which was way higher than he was projected to go.

Of course @Flatlyner takes Frazier at 31 cause he's a ****.

With the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the VA Beach Neptunes select:

SG Sammy George, Connecticut

- Lol, I know I've already taken two SGs in this class but George was far and away the best available.

With the 36th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the VA Beach Neptunes select:

PG Brook Lane, UC San Diego

- Somehow I missed that Lane dropped all the way to the 2nd round.  I actually considered him at 14.  He's a pretty good get here in the 2nd.

That wraps the draft.

So, I did my best to track the Lottery picks, so here was the result:

1 - SG, Powell - LVH

2- PF, Wade - CHI

3- PF, Samuels - NYK (they didn't need a PF, so odd that they took him here)

4- SF, Hardaway - BRK (my 4th overall prospect, but going before 2 and 3)

5- SG, Arthur - VBN (MK lucked the hell out here, I'm a big fan of Arthur and think he will be a beast also, easily my 2nd prospect)

6- C, Sanders - LAC (was mocked at 12, so not too much of a reach. IMO, the best center in the draft)

7- SG, Hilll - LVH (my 3rd prospect and the top perimeter defender in the draft, not to mention one of the best shooters)

8- C, Webber - ORL (not a huge fan of him)

9- SF, Christie - UTH (not a big fan)

10- SF, Moss - POR (solid, 9th prospect for me)

11- SG, Riley - DEN (this is the guy I thought I was going to have to take at 7 before Hill dropped)

12- SF, Rider - IND (solid slasher)

13- SF, Dawson - OKC (MK liked him, I wasn't the biggest fan)

14- SG, Jenkins - VBN (great shooter, pretty awful everywhere else.  I certainly had him on my radar for the shooting and badges only)

15- PG, Reeves - PHX (a reach here IMO, but solid shooter, not a great playmaker)

All total, I got my 1st and 3rd prospect.  MK got my 2nd and 10th - ish propsect.  I didn't really make a top prospects outside of 7 for 1st round.

Think I'm going to play Powell at the 3, but also think he'd make a great 2 and, honestly, a really fantastic PG.  He has great ball handling, speed, and size.  A mismatch against all PG's in the league.  Putting him at the 3 as that is a hole I needed to fill, but, I'll experiment with him at PG/SG also.

My biggest mistake in this mock so far was relying on the Wizards to be bad enough for top 5 lottery odds.  Of course they ended up at 14.

Yes, but your thought was correct.   I had them as the worst team and wanted their pick also.  Just so happened that with Doncic injured for a bit, Mavs were actually far worse then a healthy wizards.
