2024 NFL DRAFT

NFL-canva.jpg?fit=1200,675&ssl=1

Alright lets do this. First let me tell you how I set up my board. So for whatever reason Madden 24 made it so you can’t flip through all of the prospects on a single screen, you now have to go position by position (they cut off the All tab at the top 50 players). So what I did was go through every position and add any player I thought was draftable to a spreadsheet. I then grouped them into tiers in which the cpu has them labeled talentwise: Top 5, Round 1, Round 1-2, Round 2-3, Round 3-4, Day 3 and UDFA. Then I went to every prospect again and gave them a rating 1 to 3 for Skills and Athleticism. For example, the top player on my board DT Zac Allen has A FM, A PM, A TKL, he gets a 3 for Skills, plus his combine was insane, he gets a 3 for Athleticism. WR Kerry Gills is stupid fast, he gets a 3 for Athleticism, but his CTH, CIT and RLS are awful, he gets a 1 for Skills. So a 6 is a perfect score, and I only have four of those on my entire draft board: DT Allen, HB Holt, WR McCain, and OC Kurtis Johnson.

If there are ties, for instance lets say both prospects have a 5, the one with the higher Athleticism gets the nod cause more upside. If two prospects have the exact rating of a 5 and same distribution between Skills and Athleticism, positional value wins. Based on these rules I ranked the players within their Tiers they had been assigned by the CPU. Oh, one more thing, if a player had positive press during the year they go to the front of the line in their tier.

I made a trade before the draft started:

*TRADE*

Patriots Receive

#21 overall

2025 Chargers 1st Round Pick

Bucs Receive

#5 overall pick

This lets me target WR McCain at 5.

These are the draft picks I have for this draft:

1 – 1

1 – 5

2 – 33

2 – 59

3 – 65

3 – 73

3 – 93

4 – 97

5 – 155

6 – 161

7 – 193

7 - 200

Time to start the draft.

I have no interest in fielding trade offers for the #1 overall pick. DT Zac Allen is one of the best prospects I have ever seen.

With the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

DT Zac Allen, LSU - 82 OVR

Power Rusher (82), Speed Rusher (79), Run Stopper (78)

NMovLy5.jpg

- Wow. Hidden dev, great way to start. 81 speed is a little low given his 40 time but is elite for a DT. 86 ACC and 93 STR. Should be an elite interior pass rusher.

Ok my next pick is at 5. Due to popular demand I'm going to pass on HB Holt. McCain has been mocked at 5 the past 3 mocks. He was mocked higher than that before but I'm just going to gamble he drops to 5 cause I don't want to pay any more to move up.

Ok.......QB Thomas Mcdonald goes #2 overall to the Cardinals, which is both ridiculous because they still have Kyler Murray on the roster and he was mocked to go #21 overall. This really screws things up Idk if McCain is going to fall to 5 now.

HB Holt goes #3 overall to the Colts which is where he was mocked to go. Kind of silly they're willing to draft a RB at 3 but not pay Jonathan Taylor though IRL. Oh wait, even more ridiculous is they gave Taylor a 4 year $35 mil extension and then also drafted Holt.  Jesus Madden draft logic is horrible.

Washington then takes RE Earl Tatum at 4, despite having extended both Chase Young and Montez Sweat in the offseason, and they're still paying Payne and Allen. Maybe Madden plans to play 11 dlineman on defense for them.

Well those idiots let McCain fall to me.  This pick is easy.

With the 5th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

WR Greg McCain, Boston College - 80 OVR

Physical (80), Deep Threat (77), Slot (77), Playmaker (75)

JGY7dkS.jpg

- Hidden dev! 93 speed with 90 acceleration. Pretty insane for 6'5". He also has 97 jump.

I have no more first round picks and don't plan on trading back into the first round.  Time to sim to 33. I may trade up from my later 2nd rounder to have two high 2nds as I feel there is a lot of talent in that range.

Ok I’m on the clock at 33. BPA on my board right now looks like this:

QB Cody Gibbs

LG Deandre Boyd

CB Joe Cooper

WR Ricky Streeter

LE JR Hamilton

WR Kerry Gills

OC Kurtis Johnson

The surprising development here is CB Joe Cooper who was supposed to go in the first round. All of the others were projected to drop to the 2nd. Cooper is a Zone first CB who ran the fastest 40 at his position (4.39) and did the most bench (20). His man and press ratings are only C. So either I would need to train him up at man coverage or he’d need to move to FS. Either way he looks like a pretty legit prospect that I wasn’t expecting to be here.

The issue is I don’t pick again until 59 and I have two prospects I absolutely want to draft in WR Kerry Gills (stupid fast and press) and OC Kurtis Johnson (my only other perfect 6 in the draft). To accomplish all of that I’d have to take Cooper here at 33 then probably trade up twice to take the other two.

With the 33rd overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

CB Joe Cooper, Northwestern - 77 OVR

Zone (77), Man to Man (74), Slot (74)

sCXCdF8.jpg

- 3 for 3 hidden devs.  Great way to start the rebuild. 94 Spd 94 acc.  He’s going to be good.

Ok I want to try to trade one of my CBs now for a 2nd round pick because Cooper is going to need their playing time.

The issue is none of the teams behind me have any cap space. The closest pick I can get is 37 with the patriots as they have a bunch of cap room.

*TRADE*

Patriots Receive

CB Carlton Davis III (83)

#155 overall (5)

2025 Bucs 4th Round Pick

Bucs Receive

#37 overall (2)

-  Not the greatest return for me but the Patriots were negotiating tough and none of the other teams had enough cap to take on Davis’ contract.

Wow literally no one from my board went from 33 to 37.  I’m on the clock. I want both WR Gills and OC Johnson.  There are several WRs still on the board before Gills, but Johnson is the top Center on the board. So I think its smarter to take Johnson first.

With the 37th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

OC Kurtis Johnson, Penn State - 75 OVR

Power (75), Pass Protector (68), Agile (68)

ESWDT2e.jpg

- 4 for 4 hidden devs. Killing it. He has solid 88 strength, not top notch but good enough for a Center. He’s a Power archetype so I hope he’s a mauler in the run game.  Should be a Day 1 starter.

Ok I don’t pick again till 59.  I will probably trade up from there but I think I can sim until I see a few WRs go off the board first.

QB Cody Gibbs went to the Bears, I wonder what that means for Fields.

LG Deandre Boyd fell to the Eagles which seems unfair.

Big run on oline here. Ok I’m 10 picks away from my pick and the first WR has gone.

Ok well I simmed to 59 and he’s still on the board.  Glad I didn’t waste any more resources moving up.

With the 59th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

WR Kerry Gills, Oregon State - 71 OVR

Playmaker (71), Deep Threat (70), Slot (64), Physical (63)

I1eDFzO.jpg

- 5 in a row people.  Hidden dev. Stupid speed. 98 SPD, 97 ACC. He’s going to be raw but he will be a weapon.

I pick again at 65.  I'll reassess the board there.

Ok on the clock at 65.

Here’s the current BPA:

WR Ricky Streeter

ROLB Nick McDonald

WR Joel Foster

MLB Ramon Freeman

LG Cam Kelly

DT Adrian Clements

ROLB Mike Youngblood

TE Joe Sutphin

HB Andrew Mickens

I have 3 picks in the 3rd round here. I’m not going to seriously consider another WR, so the top two guys are both linebackers. Nick McDonald is a solid run stuffing linebacker, probably the best as far as current skills in this draft class. Then there’s MLB Freeman who’s listed as a pass coverage backer and had a positive press story.

I was really hoping TE Carlos Dean had fallen I would have ran up to the podium if he had fallen.

I could also use more Oline and a HB somewhere here in the 3rd.

The trade down offers look pretty terrible.

The smart thing here would probably be to take Freeman who had a press article about him but Mcdonald honestly looks like a better player to me. Freeman is slightly more athletic though. Tough call. I’m going with my gut and taking McDonald.

With the 65th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

ROLB Nick McDonald, Ohio State - 73 OVR

Run Stopper (73), Pass Coverage (67), Power Rusher (65), Speed Rusher (64)

tG666eH.jpg

- SIX. IN. A. ROW. Hidden dev. 86 SPD, 88 ACC. He looks really good.

I’m not going to move up again here, in fact I’d like to trade down with one of these picks in the 3rd if I can get a good offer.

WR Ricky Streeter went with the next pick to the Cardinals. Hmm, literally no one else from my board went before my next pick.

Well Freeman is still here. Do I take another linebacker? I have two solid MLBs already on my roster. Eventually I want to replace them all but both are really young and still developing. Also Freeman looks really raw as a prospect. I think I’m going to entertain trading down here.

*TRADE*

Eagles Receive

#73 overall (3)

Bucs Receive

#105 overall (4)

2025 Eagles 3rd Round Pick

2025 Eagles 6th Round Pick

- This doesn’t help me out immediately but I’m only dropping one round and pick up two picks for next year.

I'm on the clock again at 93.

Ouch the Eagles took HB Mickens. DT Adrian Clements went with the next pick to the 49ers. And literally the 3rd pick after that MLB Ramon Freeman to the Browns. I’m going to be pissed if Freeman is a Superstar dev.

Ya everyone I said before is gone. I’m on the clock now at 93.

Here’s the BPAs:

LOLB Alex Richard

HB Jerry Calloway

WR Jonathan Burnett

TE Dion Meredith

CB Dell Clayborn

CB Cole Heyward

QB Glen Marshall

Some interesting prospects here. I pick twice in the next 5 picks so I need to identify two targets here. LOLB Richard is another run stuffer who’s far inferior to the other linebackers I mentioned earlier. HB Calloway is the only draftable RB until you get into the UDFA territory. WR Burnett is the fastest WR in this class. TE Meredith looks like a really nice athlete for a TE. CB Clayborn has a slightly slower 40 time but quick shuttle and good tackling, he’s a slot CB. Heyward is a little faster and would be an outside CB. QB Marshall is a strong arm QB with elite arm strength. I have two other “draftable” QBs but they are so far down the board they might be really really raw.

I think my top guys here are TE Meredith, CB Clayborn or QB Marshall. I have little to no talent at TE on the roster, you can always use more CBs, and I wouldn’t mind grabbing a QB just to have a QB. Ultimately position value wins out.

With the 93rd overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

QB Glen Marshall, Dayton - 68 OVR

Strong Arm (68), Field General (63), Scrambler (62), Improviser (61)

- Broke the streak, kind of expected that this late with a QB. But I want to develop him as a backup, or maybe he can push Darnold for playing time. 94 throw power is nice.

TE Meredith fell to my next pick I just think I need some bodies in the TE room.

With the 97th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

TE Deon Meredith, Wisconsin - 68 OVR

Vertical Threat (68), Possession (65), Blocking (55)

aNpg8Bu.jpg

- lol wow.  Hidden #7.  A hidden dev TE in the 4th? Wow. 86 SPD, 85 ACC.  He will probably start Day 1. Hell of a 4th round pick.

Ok I pick again at 105 (from the Eagles trade down) but don’t pick again after that until 161 in the 6th.

Crap CB Clayborn went to the Rams. I was going to take him next. And then HB Calloway goes to the Vikings. Literally right before my pick.

BPA for me is probably WR Burnett but there’s like 10 WRs on the board ahead of him. The trade down offers are garbage though. I guess I’ll just take the speed.

With the 105th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

WR Jonathan Burnett, Florida - 70 OVR

Deep Threat (70), Playmaker (69), Physical (63), Slot (63)

htRCepZ.jpg

- Normal dev but 99 SPD, 98 ACC, 99 AG. Guess I just found my KR.

I’m just going to sim to the 6th round.

With the 161st overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

LT Cooper Edwards, Auburn - 64 OVR

Agile (64), Power (60), Pass Protector (56)

QR5vHuN.jpg

- Normal dev. Oline depth.

 7th Round.

With the 193rd overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

K Gordon Gilkey, Florida - 70 OVR

Power (70), Accurate (69)

YfCaaJa.jpg

- 87 kick power.  Normal dev. He’s getting cut. I’ll have to sign a kicker.

With the 200th overall pick in the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

FB Nathan Dunn, Nevada - 74 OVR

Blocking (74), Utility (68)

oaFlm6P.jpg

- I was looking for a blocking TE in this class but couldn’t find one.  Took this FB instead. Normal dev. Not sure if he’ll make the roster or not.

That wraps a pretty epic first draft.

A lot of turnover from last year.  You can see why that I had to sign all of those free agents even with all of the draft picks I had.

Sam Darnold is the new starter at QB. I think.  I may start the rookie Marshall just to get him experience.

White will start again at RB, Penny will be the primary backup.

Other than Palmer pretty much the entire WR core is new. Gage didn't play last year too so he's new to me. McCain will be the #1 with Palmer the #2 and rookie Gills in the slot. I will probably shop Gage I don't have snaps for him.

Rookie TE Meredith will start over Otton because he's hidden dev.

3 Oline starters return, LT Wirfs, LG Feiler and RG Mauch. Rookie Center Johnson will start, I need to shop Jensen as he's going to regress bad after this year.  FA signing Jonah Williams will start at RT. I thought a lot of those UDFA rookie oline were heading to the PS but they are my only depth so probably not. I wish I had landed more Oline in the draft.

On the Dline, FA signing Clelin Ferrell will start at LE. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka moves from linebacker to RE in my 4-3 scheme. Rookie DT Zac Allen will start immediately next to Kancey. They may be the two fastest DTs in the league.

Rookie LB Nick Mcdonald will start at LOLB. After a big year and gaining Superstar dev Sirvocea Dennis gets the starting nod at MLB, and Devin White moves to ROLB where he will start.

Dean is still the #1 CB, rookie CB Joe Cooper will start opposite him as the #2.

FAs Rowe and Edmunds will be the starting Safeties.

Impressive draft write up!  Even just scrolling to the bottom took a while.

Ya for some reason writing down what I’m thinking helps me make decisions during the draft. Biggest mistakes were probably passing on MLB Freeman and CB Clayborn in the mid rounds which both ended up being Superstar dev. You can see that part of the draft is where I start focusing on need instead of just going BPA and it backfired a little.

Even without the third top 5 pick, looks like you had the most successful draft in NFL history, lol.  Definitely have to start the University of Dayton grad at QB.  If you are so good at QB that you can get drafted from a non-scholarship football program, you're the real deal.

Allen's face looks like Aaron Donald
McCain looks like Randy Moss
Johnson looks like Eric Bieniemy
McDonald looks like Terry Crews

Those guys just so distinctly look like other guys that it caught my notice.

Whatever you're doing works.  I would've went Freeman just from the press storyline.  Still an absolutely epic class.  You came out with an awesome WR corps.  Those 3 with the athletic TE and the day 1 center make for a great foundation to eventually plug a young qb into.   That doesn't even include getting Reggie White #1 overall.

I decided to go with the Bucs for my rebuild this year.  I feel like everyone is doing the Cardinals this year, everyone has done the Texans for 3 years straight, and personally I just don't like the Rams. So the Bucs were the pick.  They have no QB in the waiting and honestly the roster is pretty terrible.

Lovely way to start out this thread for me....

First and foremost, my God, these spreadsheets must have taken hours to input.   I know first hand on this with our franchises, they take forever.  And that draft thread?   5 hours I'm guessing?

-I agreed with McCain over Holt.  Dude is just a freak of nature and having a dominant WR is more important then a dominant RB in my opinion.

-Cooper is going to be one of the best CB's in the NFL.   He is already a top safety if he were to play there.

-99 speed returner is insane.  Would be fun in user games.

Hell of a first draft I'll say.

Really wish Madden could take their head out of their ***** and stop actually removing parts of the franchise that were useful (i.e. top players list, draft board as we are drafting, etc.).  It is entirely ridiculous that Madden removed any way to see who was previously drafted in a fantasy draft now......  How unrealistic is that honestly?

Anyway, rant over, great thread.  /following (even though you crapped on my Rams in the first paragraph, best record in the league at moment BTW :)

You can thank Jeff Fisher's team captains at mid field for that.

If I was doing this offline I'd probably have taken Holt.

He didn't hit hard enough or tackle well enough to be a Safety imo.

Between Gills, Thompson and Burnett I landed 3 rookie WRs with 97+ Speed.

It would have been a lot better had I taken LG Deandre Boyd, MLB Ramon Freeman or CB Dell Clayborn.
