The Browns have a chance to clinch the playoffs this week during Thursday night football. They will hold out hope Zach Wilson is able to clear concussion protocol and be ready to go against the Jim Schwartz defense. Thursday night football is always a good time. These short weeks certainly always give us quality football.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas… I let relatives know this year that if they give any of my kids gifts that requires set up, it’s either going to sit in the package or they will be the one piecing it together for them. Unfortunately my wife had some “fun” gift ideas and I like being married so gift setup remained another year. I digress. She let me watch the Browns on Christmas Eve though so that’s a good thing.

This week is certainly a big one, we get a chance to not only clinch the playoffs but reserve our spot against the AFC south winner for the first round potentially.

The Browns playing on primetime this week will at least force some of the national media to talk about them. It was fun tuning in last night to listen to the random hyping up of the bills and the run they’ve had with no mention of what’s going on by the lake.

Get the win and maybe rest some of the guys the last week. For this team to do the things we need to, we especially need Myles Garrett to be Myles Garrett. He is a transcendent player who was making a run at defensive player of the year before his injury. They are still playing great as a unit but he changes the game in a different way.

He also needs to get a holding call every once on a while.  It’s so odd seeing Myles (and others, namely Parsons) just not get holding calls.

It’s like the league is simply refusing to call it.

I think some of these pass rushers are so dominant that the league is bent against allowing defense to dominate because they want to see offense. If they called holding like they should they I think there would be far less points scored. Same reason we see a bunch of ticky tack, illegal contact calls on 3rd down and how some of the officiating is set up to favor the offense.

I don’t disagree but it’s absurd as a fan.  They’re moving the goal posts.  Why pay a pass rusher if teams can just hold them to slow them down?

Its egregious.

Offenses should have to adjust, hard stop.  Double team, bring back in line blocking TEs, whatever.

Just ignoring blatant rules violations repeatedly so offenses can score more is absurd.

I don’t expect or want every ticky tack hold called, but the blatant ones need to be called.  If teams need two OL to stop Garrett (or parsons, etc) then that’s what it takes.  That’s why you spend a first overall pick on a guy like that.

It’s kind of to the point that it only gets called if the quarterback scrambles outside of the tacklebox and you see the defensive end trying to get outside but getting grabbed.
