The Vikings will also have to pay Turner, who was selected with the 17th overall pick in last month's draft. Of course, this total doesn’t take into account the rookies who are yet to officially sign their contracts nor is free agent acquisition Robert Tonyan on the list yet. Still, the VIkings are projected to have a decent amount of cap space heading into the summer. Here are the five Vikings who hold the highest cap numbers this season. RT Brian O’Neill ($22,930,876) Prior to the start of the 2021 season, the Vikings signed Brian O’Neill to a new contract extension through the 2026 season. Then, they restructured that contract last offseason, thus pushing a bit more money into future seasons. As a result, the right tackle holds the highest cap hit on the team heading into 2024. WR Justin Jefferson ($19,743,000) After playing four seasons at a major discount for the Vikings, Justin Jefferson will play on his fifth-year option in 2024. The receiver is still hoping to land a large contract extension with the team which could alter his cap hit this fall, but for now, Jefferson is finally slated to land somewhat closer to market value for his services. TE T.J. Hockenson ($14,041,176) The Vikings acquired T.J. Hockenson via a trade during the 2022 season, and he proceeded to catch 60 passes for 519 yards and three touchdowns over the final 10 games of the year. As a result, the Vikings rewarded Hockenson with a huge contract extension prior to the 2023 season, and he went on to have another stellar year. However, the tight end could miss the opening weeks of the 2024 campaign due to the ACL injury he suffered last Christmas Eve against the Detroit Lions. As such, Minnesota could be without their third-highest cap hit for a portion of the year. CB Byron Murphy ($10,911,765) Byron Murphy signed a two-year contract with the Vikings last offseason after spending the first years of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals. Murphy was limited to just 13 games last season because of injury, but when he was on the field, he performed well with three interceptions. Murphy could be in line for a contract extension as well, but for now, he has the highest cap hit of any Vikings defender this year. DT Harrison Phillips ($8,833,334) Harrison Phillips is entering the third and final year of his current contract with the Vikings. During 2023, he put together 92 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three sacks, being Minnesota’s primary pass rush threat from the interior of the defensive line. It seems important to point out that McCarthy's agent, Brian Ayrault of WME Sports, also represents Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
