So @Sllim Pickens and I are working in collaboration on the "Athletic Profiles" worksheet that I've used for probably the past 10 years? (it has been a while). It is on Google Sheets and something we could look to making more available to the group once it's finished to our liking.

With that being said, I have spent a pretty solid amount of time on one particular position group. This started out as the "it's the smallest group so I should be able to knock this out quickly" into a multi-day addition and analysis.

Centers (OC)

Since 2018, there have been 5 1st round OC's taken

  • 2018 - 2 (Ragnow and Price)
  • 2019 - 1 (Bradburry)
  • 2020 - 1 (Ruiz)
  • 2021 - 0
  • 2022 - 1 (Linderbaum)
  • 2023 - 0

The total number of OC's taken in a class since 2018 is approximately 8 (20 and 21)with a range of 6 (19 and 22) to 11 (18) (9 in 2023).

On average (outside of 2018) the first OC taken is within 4 picks of their consensus ADP. It has gradually gotten tighter and tighter (+8, +6, +6, +1, +1). The highest that an OC has been taken since 2009 is pick #18.

2024

Round 1

OC1 Jackson Powers-Johnson (23 ADP)

Teams with a need at the position in that range (+8)

  • Las Vegas (#13)
  • Seattle (#16)
  • Jacksonville (#17)
  • Pittsburgh (#20)
  • Miami (#21)
  • Dallas (#24)
  • Green Bay (#25)
  • Tampa Bay (#26)

Round 2

OC2 Zach Frazier (45 ADP)

What I have seen is that OC2 does tend to rise up from their ADP after OC1 has been taken. We're generally seeing anything from +1 to +16.

Frazier has the potential to rise anywhere from pick #44 to even our pick at #29.

The 49ers have a need at IOL (pick 31), while the Panthers, Bears, Commanders, Cardinals, Giants are all teams early in round 2 that could look to address the position.

RISERS

Beaux Limmer (Arkansas) and Tanor Bortolini (Wisconsin) are two guys who are intriguing and could be strong additions to a roster. They're probably 3rd round guys that should rise above their 4th - 5th round ADP and be starters for their teams.

FALLERS

Sedrick Van Pran-Granger is a name that I see falling. He's on the smaller side (298) and is a marginal athlete. He had been discussed as a Round 1 pick at one point and is currently sitting with an ADP of 83. I can see him dropping further or being overdrafted on his name.

  • HASS Agility: 12.26 Avg (Min 13.51, Max 11.50) <<< Based on 3C and SS

We are still missing some of the workout numbers, so this is an incomplete list. However, if we narrow down the guys based on what we do have it would look like right now:

  • Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon
  • Zach Frazier, West Virginia
  • Nick Gargiulo, South Carolina
  • Jacob Monk, Duke

Jacob Monk is a player that hasn't gotten a lot of press.  I am not sure he would start from Day 1 but you have to like a player who is a Team Captain 2-years in a row, started 55 out of 56 games played at Duke and played RT, RG and C.  He seems to have good athleticism and functional strength.  It seems like he would be a pretty good back-up at G or C as a rookie.

He's an intriguing player. His grades on PFF aren't the best and he's more of a Zone guy than a Gap guy. How much that would be an issue for us is yet to be determined.

With Q Johnson returning to UM and withdrawing from draft since he didn't hire agent it got me thinking.

Caleb Williams didn't hire agent so if he really doesn't like Chicago and they don't trade the pick can't he just withdrawal from draft as well?

what's that deadline

He has already said he is fine going anywhere.

Butt the rules are:

Quote

According to NCAA rules, a player can withdraw from the NFL Draft by Feb. 2, as long as a player doesn't 1) agree orally or in writing to be represented by an agent, 2) accept any benefits from an agent, a prospective agent or any individual acting on behalf of the agent, 3) participate in a tryout with a professional team that lasts longer than 48 hours, which you have not personally financed (including the NFL Scouting Combine, 4) try out with a professional team during the academic year and miss class and 5) enter the draft AND do not take the appropriate steps to withdraw and declare your intention to resume intercollegiate participation.

So it would depend on what he has done workout wise, promise wise with agents etc.  I am not sure if being at the combine and meeting with teams counts even though he did not lift or go through medicals.  If not it could be a reason he didn't workout or do the medical portion at least but if he missed class to be there he would not be eligible to return.

Think missing class is the real big one.  And I dont care what he says about playing anywhere.  He has repeatedly proved to be all about himself in this process

Agreed but I think he realized how much money he would cost himself if he stayed in college another year.

hes not even the top 2 QBs in this draft..teams are gonna hate that mistake

I agree, and think he will ruin the Bears franchise further which I find fantastic.  Especially when they trade Fields to the Patriots or Seahawks and he dominates and makes them look more inept.

But Caleb does risk more going back and potentially sucking, getting hurt, being a year late to the big extension/5th year option etc.

My top QBs are

1. Maye

2. Daniels

3. McCarthy

4. Williams

5. Penix

Guess we will see in few years.  And people will say McCarthy is because UM fan but it has nothing to do with it.

Mine are:

1. Daniels

2. Penix

3. Maye

4. Williams (talent wise is higher but I dont like who he is or how he leads)

5. Nix

6. Jordan Travis

7. McCarthy

8. Milton

9. Hartman

You think?

Bears and Commanders will go QB at 1 & 2.

Patriots at 3 could go QB

Cardinals at 4 will take MHJ

Giants are reported to be 'done' with Daniel Jones. They pick at #6. They signed Drew Lock but that doesn't mean they're done at QB.

So you could have the top 4 QBs off the board in the first 6 picks.

Washington just signed Marriota and I think they will roll with Howell again opposed to drafting a QB there.  I don't see them carrying Maye/Daniels, Marriota, and Howell on the roster.  Howell I think will become a Kirk Cousins.

Justin Fields likely will have an impact still maybe in New York or New England.

The Giants also may not make a change at QB.  If they don't love one that is available, they could pass and hope that Lock or Jones takes a step forward and if not grab one later in the draft like Milton or Hartman to try and find their Brock Purdy.

I'll be willing to bet that we have some QBs drop like we did two years ago.
