Noah Burnette made four field goals, three of them after quarterback Max Johnson was carted off with a knee injury, and hit the go-ahead 45-yarder with 1:44 left to lift North Carolina past the Minnesota Gophers 19-17 in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Dragan Kesich, whose 30-yarder with 3:40 to go gave the Gophers the lead, missed his chance to win it as time expired when his 47-yard try went wide right. He missed a 27-yarder earlier.

Twins get back on track by taking 2 of 3 against the Blue Jays. They're still 3.5 back of the Guardians but have a 4.5 game lead over the Red Sox for the final wild card spot.

They've got 2 days off the rest of the regular season, 9/12 and 9/23.

In its first college football weekend as an 18-team conference, Big Ten teams combined to go 17-1. Minnesota suffered the conference’s only Week 1 loss in a heartbreaking 19-17 defeat to North Carolina that ended with a missed 47-yard field goal attempt by Dragan Kesich, the 2023 Big Ten Kicker of the Year.

USC earned the Big Ten’s marquee win of opening weekend on Sunday as the Trojans defeated 13th-ranked LSU, 27-20, in their first game as a Big Ten team. Woody Marks scored a game-winning touchdown on a 13-yard run with eight seconds left to hand LSU its fifth straight season-opening loss dating back to 2020.

Minnesota's professional women's hockey team officially has a name: the Minnesota Frost.

The team, previously known as PWHL Minnesota, announced the moniker Monday morning in a video on social media. The logo features the letter 'F' in team colors with edges and sharp points that symbolize icicles, the release said.

"'Frost' embodies the State of Hockey's deep-rooted love for the ice — and the sport that has become a timeless tradition, bridging generations," the PWHL said.

Team names for the five other PWHL teams are the Boston Fleet, the Montréal Victoire, the New York Sirens, the Ottawa Charge and the Toronto Sceptres.
