The Ancients will have to let us know more about him...I know some, but not much, since he was before my time.

Bobby was the best corner back on the vaunted Vikings defense of the 70s.  However, he was so overshadowed by Paul Krause in that d-backfield that he never got the recognition he deserved.  A number of Krause's INTs were due to Bobby Bryant getting a hand in front of the receiver and knocking the ball up and away to be caught by PK22.

yes, but Bryant came up with many INT's of his own too. 50 or so, i think. like Krause, he had a penchant for being opportunistic, being in the right place at the right time.

he was one of Bud Grant's favorites due to his dependable nature, as he was very steady on the field and well liked/respected by his teammates. he played well into his mid 30's.

Bryant was a southern boy and along with football was a highly rated baseball pitcher for his college team too. he was not highly drafted and didn't make much of an impact for a few years. but when he came on strong in the early 70's, he was a rock in the backfield. like Krause, another "centerfielder" kind of player, if the opposing QB threw an errant pass, it was more likely Bryant would come up with it than the receiver.

Bryant played only for the Vikings in his pro career, and is the first cornerback for the team to receive this honor.

Seems like there’s a very defined timeline in place - like there’s a “win it this decade” agreement in place between the FO and ownership.

great move! I think a healthy Darrisaw will make all pro teams on this contract.

Duke Shelley is back in action with the Vikings. The team announced the signing Tuesday, bringing the cornerback back to Minnesota, where he appeared in 11 games with five starts in 2022.

Shelley recorded 30 tackles (22 solo), an interception and a career-high eight passes defensed for the Vikings and added one tackle on special teams. The pick occurred at Chicago against the squad that drafted him.

He returns after spending the 2023 season with the Rams, appearing in 11 games for Los Angeles.

Shelley, 27, played college football at Kansas State and began his NFL career as a sixth-round pick by the Bears in 2019. He played in 30 games for Chicago from 2019-21.

Yes!!!

Pretty solid move, looking at the highest paid LTs in the NFL Darrisaw is one of the most promising on that list no question about it.

Laremy Tunsil Texans 30 $75,000,000 $25,000,000 $60,000,000 $50,000,000 2027 UFA
Andrew Thomas Giants 25 $117,500,000 $23,500,000 $67,000,000 $67,000,000 2030 UFA
Trent Williams 49ers 36 $138,060,000 $23,010,000 $45,100,000 $40,050,000 2027 Void
Jordan Mailata Eagles 27 $66,000,000 $22,000,000 $48,000,000 $41,000,000 2033 UFA
Dion Dawkins Bills 30 $60,060,000 $20,020,000 $34,955,000 $30,205,000 2030 UFA
Jake Matthews Falcons 32 $55,500,000 $18,500,000 $42,058,823 $26,558,823 2027 UFA
Kolton Miller Raiders 29 $54,015,000 $18,005,000 $42,500,000 $25,000,000 2026 UFA
Cam Robinson Jaguars 29 $52,750,000 $17,583,333 $33,000,000 $33,000,000 2025 UFA
Garett Bolles Broncos 32 $68,000,000 $17,000,000 $40,000,000 $21,000,000 2025 UFA
Orlando Brown Jr. Bengals 28 $64,092,000 $16,023,000 $31,100,000 $31,100,000 2027 UFA

He will never be as dominating as Trent Williams or as solid overall as Tunsil but he is right there with everyone else if not better than those other guys.  So it is a good deal, what Darrisaw gets roughly $22 mil a year if that is a five year contract, not bad and it will be good value because I am sure that number will get way higher the more time goes on.

I would take Darrisaw over Andrew Thomas who is also young but I would say Darrisaw is more physical and does not have the injury issues so far either.  Both 25 Thomas and Darrisaw but Vikings have the better of those two players I would say.  Good to address the OL which is clearly so important and great to get the deal done two years before his rookie contract is up which I am sure he is happy about but in the end it could save the Vikings money as long as Darrisaw keeps improving and salaries do nothing but getting higher and higher every year.  So locking him in now, great.

Awesome move!

Is that accurate, an article on ESPN says Darrisaw is signed through 2029 which would be a 5 year deal.  Oh so that is a 4 year deal?   If so that changes it from roughly $22 mil a year to $28.25 which would be by far the highest paid LT NFL.   And if a four year deal would make him the highest paid average per year OL in the NFL period.  The 2nd highest is Penei Sewell on Detroit, he gets $28 mil a year.

Is he the best LT in the NFL right now, absolutely not but he is easily right there with top 10 no question if not top 5.  There is zero chance he is better more dominant than Penei Sewell, who is by the way two years younger than Darrisaw roughly.  Sewell there is a reason he already has been to two Pro Bowls and was 1st team All Pro and one of the best OL period last year if not the best.  Darrisaw still has some work to do to get to that level and has never been to a Pro Bowl or been an All Pro, but if he is indeed the highest paid OL in the NFL period right now that does say something and brings a ton of pressure his way.

Curious why in the ESPN article they did not make that claim saying Darrisaw is the highest paid OL in the NFL right now.  Which apparently he is I believe, even Sewell got a 4 years $112 contract recently.  So high bar for Darrisaw no question, hopefully he continues to progress which he needs to and does not let it go to his head too much.
