Hundley isn't a bad QB when he keeps his eyes downfield and isn't afraid to cut loose. He gets very good protection here, and Jordy shakes loose with a veteran shimmy.

This was an excellent job by the Packers front group. Richard Rodgers and Justin McCray especially get major points for an effective combo block from Za'Darius Smith down to CJ Mosley. You need to win your combo blocks if you're going to run the football.

The difference between Lambeau Hundley and Away Hundley can be demonstrated perfectly when contrasting this play and the play a week later against the Steelers. Davante Adams whips Brandon Carr here. Hundley finds him and delivers, but he leaves it grossly short. This ball should be hitting him in the hands as he's crossing the goal line. Instead Adams has to fight back for it. Against the Steelers, Hundley drops it in perfectly. This play is a nice gain, but it's a bad play by Hundley and he leaves points on the field.

I'm a big fan of McCarthy's offensive scheme in most situations, but his redzone attack drives me absolutely up the wall.

What is the schematic for this play, "Alright, two of you are going to run post routes, and I want you to high five as you cross the goal line. And Geronimo Allison, you run there too but just a few steps later?" When Hundley feels pressure, all three Packer receivers are within ten yards of each other with four Ravens defenders in the area.

The other theme from this game besides leaving chunk yardage/points on the field was lousy Right Tackle play. Ugly stuff here.

This play is a mixed bag. On one hand, Hundley draws the Encroachment penalty with the hard count. On the downside, he misses Richard Rodgers inside for a TD. Hundley doesn't fire between the hashes like an NFL QB needs to. He's just not confident doing it, and it's a problem. This is the second play he leaves points on the field.

This is the exact reason that you can't leave two scoring plays on the field. When you do, you inevitably make a stupid play that the defense takes advantage of.

Hundley saw a man trailing Cobb by a few steps and got excited. He either didn't see the CB covering Adams or didn't grasp the CB could peel off without difficulty and take this ball away. This is a rookie QB mistake not checking the underneath level when throwing.

From a coaching perspective, this is a frustrating decision. Once again in the redzone, there are four guys clumped into two groups. The meshing on these routes is terrible.

Hundley misses his blitz read here. His receiver screen to the left gets blown up so he has to come short. Hundley just isn't accurate delivering when he's off platform and has to throw from the shoulder. Better to throw it away than take the sack though.

This is a good run to get back on schedule after the rough first down. Evans wins his rep here against Brandon Williams who is a monster. Jahri Evans gets you 3 yards on the first level and Jamaal Williams drives and falls forward for another 3 yards, and that's an effective run game. CJ Mosley is a really good inside linebacker here with his ability to scrape and tackle.

This is what Jordy Nelson will be capable of providing for a few more years. He's effective in the slot with his sure hands and dependable routes. On 3rd and short, like this was, you need an effective possession receiver.

This is a good concept by McCarthy. We insist on playing with an offensive skill position set of Richard Rodgers, Lance Kendricks, Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, and Jamaal Williams for some unknown reason, but McCarthy uses the two non-threats (Rodgers and Kendricks) to zone clear for Jamaal Williams coming underneath. Good job by Hundley showing patience and waiting for this to develop.

This was called a False Start on Bakhtiari because NFL refs are bad at their jobs.

Defense

This Packers defense was unremarkable in so many ways. One of the way that it was remarkable, is that I have never seen a team so terrible against Play Action. Our ILBs have never seen a ball fake they will not bite on. All three of them shot right up on this play. Remember this play for future posts because the Ravens ran this several times.

Run defense isn't pretty here but Lowry hustles and make the tackle here for a good result.

Nice scheme by the Ravens. RB takes Clay out of the picture. TE takes Ryan out of the picture. Leaves the WR on a CB with who is playing ten yards back. Easy completion.

Jake Ryan makes a nice play here. Lowry gets pushed 5 yards back into his lap and buried here. Ryan manages to avoid it and still make the tackle.

Standard 4 yard checkdodwn inside against the zone coverage. You don't sweat this if you're a DC.

This is Clay being a difference maker. He shoots right for Flacco on the rollout and manages to disrupt the RB coming out of the backfield as well. Nice work to bring this drive to 4th and 1.

Give up the 4 and 1 conversion, but this is good work by the ILBs. Ryan takes on the extra TE who is actually the Ravens starting OT, and then piles up the pulling Guard in the hole. He gets just enough of the Tackle to keep Martinez mostly free. Martinez takes a strong angle here to make the tackler. Lowry getting driven 6 yards out of the gap makes killing this impossible. Ravens know who they want to run their power offense at.

Best defensive play of the day for the Packers

Screen pass on 2nd and 24 that only gets 3 yards is a win every time. Randall plays this well.

Pressure package goodness from Clay, Daniels, and Brooks

Overall:

I'm late for work and will fill this in later.

I said it then and I'll still say it now, I see nothing wrong with Hundley's decision on the end zone INT and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Aaron throws the same ball, ( placement better and less chance of a pick).

You get a man read with the DB following Cobb, then he inexplicably tries to pass him off and the LB who's obviously in man as well doesn't follow. The play design is clearly meant for Cobb and it's wide open at the snap. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to a player like Smith, he's a hell of a CB. If anything I think Mac is frustrated in himself from an alignment standpoint there. If you're scheming Cobb open like that, absolutely no reason for Adams to have such a wide split.

This was a huge problem all season long. I don't know how to fix it other then to just tell them to stop it.

As well as Martinez played last season, he was doing this every game.

Perhaps Rodgers could anticipate Smith breaking off his man there since it was close to where Cobbs route ends up. Its so fast though, don't blame Hundley for throwing it.

Or from the Ravens point of view...

Starting OT/TE kicks out Ryan and then seals Martinez to create a hole for the RB. (Also, Lowery gets pancaked by our OT)

Yeah, you should win on 4th and 1 against that alignment. Winning in that spot should be easy.

You're not going to frequently stop 4th and 1. The Ravens had their LT and a pulling OG going up against 2 ILBs. Only giving up 2 yards there is a nice play by the ILBs when their protection gets blasted out of the way.

Agree. Lowery gettting run out really hurt the play. Allowed the OT/TE to get the second level and catch part of both ILB. If Lowery can hold his ground it forces the RB to pick a side and makes it harder for the OT to get to both ILB’s.

Heck of a play by their OT/TE

Lowery should see fewer snaps in 2018, both Big Mo and Little Mo ( Montravious) Adams should take time from him

Dean Lowery played 496 defensive snaps in 2017 ( 47 %) and was the # 3 DL by snap counts.
