My ordering:

Hardball

Major League 1 & 2

Bull Durham

Movies that I personally enjoy but wouldn't probably be anywhere near my top 5

The Benchwarmers

Mr. 3000

Angels in the Outfield (childhood feels, man)

Angels in the Outfield is definitely one of my favorites. It's my favorite guilty pleasure movie for sure. Not a great baseball movie, but the premise is something I can totally get behind. Throw in a redemption story about Danny Glover and a young JGL and it's a solid film.

Combining two movies into one seems like cheating when counting votes.

I voted for Sandlot.  Although i have to admit i haven't seen many of these.  Sports movies don't really appeal to me tbh.

I understand this to a point, but at the same time, when we do the "fighting/boxing/wrestling" category, I'm not creating 7-8 different options for Rocky. Using the "criteria" that was developed, sequels/trilogies/anthologies are combined for the sake of continuity.

In this order

For Love of the Game

Field of Dream

Major League

Bull Durham

The Sandlot

All the rest are pathetic

For Love of the Game is a great movie. It's also a chick flick unfortunately.

It gives ML a big advantage though.

I mean i don't really care.  Just seems to eliminate the point of the poll.

Angels in the Outfield being disqualified is a disgrace.

Its not an exact match, but when MoL did our top fictional baseball players list, this was our rankings:

1. Kenny Powers, Eastbound and Down

2. Stan Ross, Mr. 3000

3. Willie Mays Hays, Major League

4. Rick Vaughn, Major League

5. Roger Dorn, Major League

6. Henry Rowengartner, Rookie of the Year

7. Jack Parkman, Major League 2

8. Jack Elliot, Mr. Baseball

9. Pedro Cerrano, Major LEague

10. T-Rex Pennebaker, Mr. 3000

11. Steve Perry, The Scout

Angels in the Outfield's top characters were only honorable mentions but very strong ones.  Here's an excerpt:

Quote

tumblr_me7r5khbUD1rpqwk9o1_500.gif

Roger (Angels in the Outfield) - Roger isn't a bad kid and really does seem down to earth at times but ultimately we are talking about a kid whose favorite team goes on a winning streak so he becomes convinced that he has communicated with God who has sent literal angels down to earth to help his team win just so he can have a family. He basically smugly takes credit for his team winning a few games then after the movie ends he grows up to be Joseph Gordon Levitt, who is very smug. Yes I realize he's not exactly a baseball player but I'm sure he's on the little league team or something.

JP (Angels in the Outfield) - He does a solid job hiding his enormous amount of smugness but you can tell JP is probably even more smug than Roger. This kid is so smug he refuses to talk 95% of the time or ride in cars. But the one time he does open his mouth is to smugly tell the press that he and Roger are personally responsible for the Angels winning. Also probably played little league.

Now with all that in mind, my rankings would be as follows:

1. Major League

2. Mr. 3000

3. Major League 2

4. Angels in the Outfield

5. Space Jam

Unfortunately it was redone. AITO was one of my childhood favorites.
