Terrible move by Brooklyn. They finally get their chance to tank and they go and add a player that might get them to the 8 seed. And now they have Dwight and Russell, two of the most immature players in the league. Have fun with that locker room. Marks is having a bad 2 years. Crabbe was a terrible trade last year.

Wait the Nets are terrible because they can make the playoffs next year? That makes little to no sense. If they make the playoffs in 2018-2019 (8th seed) and they go into the offseason with two max salary slots, that makes them an attractive destination. Brooklyn, made the playoffs with young talent (Russell, RHJ, LaVert, Crabbe, Allen, Okafor, whomever they get at pick 29 in this draft) and they have the money. How is that a bad thing?

Because if they were to go "tank mode", then they would have all of what you just said plus potentially a lottery pick, freeing up a max/two max deals and another potential Top 10 player/future superstar on a rookie contract.

Because a potential high lottery pick is a hell of a lot better than one year or scrapping for the 8th seed or two max deals in a weak FA class.

Also, I think people are forgetting that tanking isn't going to be quite as viable moving forward due to the changing of lottery odds.

It would have actually given a team like Brooklyn a better chance at getting the top pick since they wouldn’t have been the worst team in the league. But theyd probably be bottom 5.

It's honestly a catch 22. If you're a bottom 5 team, only have room to add 2 Max contracts with a pick somewhere in the lottery, is it as attractive as team that has shown that they do have potential. I don't know if you can make the case for attracting premium free agents if you only have room for 2 and the rest of the team has shown you nothing positive to that point. IF you can still get those same free agents, then yes it is better to tank, but who knows if they'd want to come if they don't see anything enticing already there.

When has any star free agent ever signed with a tanking team?

Sean Marks has said since day 1 that the Nets will not tank

When has any star every signed with any team? Stars rarely ever sign with someone in free agency. Lebron and KD are very rare exceptions.

Dwight is still good.  I like the trade for Brooklyn; hate the trade for Charlotte.

I mean, you really don't want Dwight on your team. Period. But the cap implications are so great for BKN. Their FO is impressive

@MWil23 @sdrawkcab321 What star wants to go to a team that just tanked the previous season? That star has to see promise. If the Nets show promise next season and show the arrow is pointing up then the stars will be attracted to the destination. I think people are taking tanking too far now. I think tanking is for teams that has no way out. They aren’t good enough to make the playoffs but not bad enough to get a top 3 pick plus they don’t have trade assets or the money to spend. That’s the reason to tank. A team shouldn’t tank just to tank. The Nets even this past season competed well. They were in a lot of games. They have some good young talent and now they will have the money to spend next offseason. They shouldn’t be tanking. They should be competing to see if they can get into the playoffs then next offseason see if they can lure two stars to add to their young talent and take their team to the next level.
