1995 Week 8 Detroit Lions (2-4) at Washington Redskins (2-5)

Start Time: 1:00pm
Stadium: Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium
Attendance: 56,454

Quality 90's gem. A back and forth affair between the Lions and Redskins that really heated up in the second half, with multiple lead changes leading to an exciting OT conclusion. The Redskins came out on top here, and it would be their 17th straight victory over the Lions dating back to 1968. Despite Wayne Fontes' team dropping to 2-5, they then orchestrated a remarkable turnaround finishing the season 8-1, and making the playoffs. This was the one year where Scott Mitchell had a good season, and looked the part of the franchise QB Detroit had been looking for. The Lions sported the number one offense that year in yards, and 2nd in points. The Redskins meanwhile only won three more games finishing 6-10. The funny thing is that while Gus Fferotte, and former 1st round bust Heath Shuler  were on the squad playing musical chairs at QB, a young Trent Green was buried on the depth chart.

1984 Week 10 Miami Dolphins (9-0) at New York Jets (6-3)

Sunday Nov 4, 1984
Start Time: 4:00pm
Stadium: Giants Stadium

Jets take on their division rival for the first time of the year. Miami is a powerhouse taking the league by storm due to young trigger-ace Dan Marino. The Dolphins are the only undefeated team left in the NFL at this point, and the Jets put up a good fight until the waning minutes of the ball game. This would be the second consecutive loss for the Jets that would balloon into a six game losing streak overall. After starting the year 6-2, the Jets went into a tailspin resulting in taking an L in seven of their final eight games. The Dolphins of course kept rolling, and made it all the way to Super Bowl 19. Charlie Jones and Bob Griese on the call for NBC.

Never went there, but I liked this stadium. Even though it was basic, seems like Patriots fans got a good view of the field action. For whatever reason I remember sunlight being really bright at the stadium due to how open-ended it was. Apparently, from some of the comments I read according people that actually went, the place was essentially a huge high school stadium, with inconvenient issues like the away team having to walk a long way to the locker rooms, and bad plumbing as noted in the video. Traffic was also bad. It did keep the Patriots in New England though via Robert Kraft.

2004 NFC Divisional St. Louis Rams (9-8) at Atlanta Falcons (11-5)

Saturday Jan 15, 2005
Start Time: 8:22pm
Stadium: Georgia Dome
Attendance: 70,709
Time of Game: 2:59

The Rams who finished 8-8 on the year, had beat their divisional rival the Seattle Seahawks the previous weekend in the wild card round. Their reward was to a showdown in the divisional matchup against Atlanta. What followed was a 47-17 thrashing by the Falcons within the deafening roar of the Georgia Dome. The Rams in 2004 were considered one of the worst teams to ever make the playoffs for a variety of reasons. The matchup against the Falcons was probably the worst opponent they could face, due to the dominant running game of Atlanta, and the lackluster running defense of the Rams. The Rams and Falcons already dueled in week 2, where the Rams also got crushed 34-17. The same result spotlighted both games in that the Rams couldn't answer the elusive Michael Vick on the ground, and once a deficit ballooned, the Rams couldn't protect QB Marc Bulger enough to orchestrate a comeback. Falcons rookie head coach Jim Mora avenged his father's 0-4 playoff record during his time as Saints and Colts head coach by finally getting a victory for the family. The Falcons lost next week on the road to the Eagles in the NFC title game, and unfortunately the playoff victory against the Rams would be the highlight of the Vick/Mora era. The following years resulted in underachieving squads, and Vick getting in off-the-field trouble which eventually put his football career on indefinite hold.

This game also marked the last time the Martz-era Rams were in the playoffs, which essentially slammed the door shut on the Rams being a Super Bowl contender. The Rams wouldn't make it back to the playoffs until the 2017 season. By that time the franchise had relocated to Los Angeles once again.
