PFF's take:

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Jimmy Garoppolo showed some rust in this one. He had inaccurate passes throughout the game and missed a couple of open receivers. His worst decision of the day led to a pick-six early in the game.

Rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel showed some flashes that he could be a staple in the 49ers’ offense. He showed off strong YAC ability in limited action, catching three passes for 17 yards and a two-point conversion.

DeForest Buckner had one of the worst games of his career against Tamp Bay. He struggled significantly against the run and left a lot to be desired rushing the passer.

New edge defender Dee Ford didn’t do much against the run, but he starred as a pass-rusher, picking up multiple pressures along the way.

Rookie Takeaways

Nick Bosa recorded multiple pressures and made his presence felt in the run game.

Next weekend the 49ers should feast against the Bengals bookend tackles Andre Smith and Bobby Hart. It will be sad if they don't.

Definitely, but their DL should have their fair share of moments against us as well. Going to be tough to run it against them and our bookends will be tested MUCH more than last week.

Bad game. That's a sizeable outlier even in his limited starts

I chalk this up to rust and lack of confidence. I think he's going to continue to improve each week. As he does, the complexity of the offense will continue to increase, which will make this a deadly offense when it's firing on all cylinders.

We talked about the gameplan in the upcoming pod. I was actually more disappointed with that then I was Jimmy's play.

It did seem pretty conservative. I was happy to see outside runs being worked into the gameplan in the second half, but I was also disappointed in the lack of deep shots. But again, I think they were trying to keep things pretty basic of Jimmy G to help him get into a rhythm. The problem was that his accuracy was failing him. He's generally a pretty accurate passer, so I definitely see this game as more of an outlier than the norm.

Also, if you're looking for guests on the pod, I'd love to do it! I was trying to start an NFL podcast with some friends, but it fell through.

Yup. I just watched the Bengals/Seaclucks game (I do so enjoy NFL Gamepass!) and they were in Wilson's face OFTEN! Sacked him 4 times--or was it more?! I was very impressed with the Bengals. If they play us the way they did Seattle, it could be a tough game.
