2018 Draft thread - PICK THE FASTEST GUY AVAILABLE

Guice, Michel, and Jones occupy the same tier for most draft analysts. Jones' size for me makes him more of an enigma. Not many guys thrive at his size and when they do, they're a constant threat for injury.

Some of the best RBs (Charles, Chris Johnson, McCoy...Charlie Garner!) were around the same size. I'd gladly pick Jones with our 2nd round pick.

This doesn’t exactly refute my point. Most of the best backs occupy the 5’10” to 6’1” 215-230 lbs range for a reason. There are exceptions, but most great backs are built similarly for a reason.

Even the guys you listed come with caveats. Jamaal Charles was a persistent injury risk and played with a pitch count; Chris Johnson was all time fast; LeSean McCoy is prototypically sized; and Charlie Garner was a quality all around back, but I wouldn’t call him a “feature” back.

Overall I would agree with Garner except for his last 2 years with San Fran and his first 2 years with us.  He was close to 20 touches a game those years and had between 1400 and 1900 yards from scrimmage.

I'll take any rookie back over Lynch at this point. If he's on the team it's a mistake. He's not a team guy and shouldn't get a pass for last season. Not worth 6 million in salary and is 32 now.

Gruden had these types in Tampa and it backfired. Say what you will about KC trading Peters, but they have a young QB taking over and needed to rid themselves of any malcontents in the locker room to grow. Hopefully the Raiders do the same. Keeping Lynch for me would be an immediate red flag for me that Gruden didn't learn from some mistakes in Tampa.

I agree fully.  No way lynch should be on the team next year.  He is a shell of his former self, has too many miles and has a bloated contract.  He ran hard but flat out doesn't have it anymore.  We need new blood in the backfield either through FA or draft.

Im not worried about it honestly. I think he'll be let go at some point. Gruden has a no bs policy and Jerry Porter and Keyshawn were perfect examples of "if you dont care about the team first, ill care about your career last"

Plus Chucky has always preferred committees employing backs with diffetent skill sets

Really like Derwin James. He's going to be a leader on the field and in the locker room. I don't see how he fits with the Raiders however given KJ/Obi. Though I don't think Obi will be more than just a guy and that should stop the from taking someone (James) who can be a legit star and leader.

#9/10: S Derwin James - I know we drafted Obi last year, but a combo of James/Joseph is too enticing for me to pass up

#41: T  Kolton Miller - Slides into starting role at RT in year 1, groomed to take LT spot in year 2. Lengthy but a bit slow, needs to be coached up

#75: DE/OLB Dorance Armstrong Jr - Pass-rush specialist. We missed recently on a 3rd like this (Calhoun) but still need help

#110 ILB Oren Brooks - Not missing on a Vandy ILB again. Might need a year behind Bowman, but provides good insurance should he fall off or he gets injured

I agree with taking a RB as well, but I'm fine with taking a flier with one of those 4 6th round comp picks instead of going early. I'm skeptical Lynch comes back, but I think Gruden/Reggie will sift through retreads in free agency and find some specialists to come in. IMO, Richard is the only back that stays, Lynch/Washington get cut, and we bring in a 2 downer (Hyde/Crowell/Martin/Blount) and pair him with a scatback type (D. Lewis/Burkhead/McKinnion/Sims).

If him or Minkah falls to 9/10, we have to take them. Either one paired with Joseph is the makings of a star DB corps. And if we could add a good FA DB here (Tru/Vontae/Butler), then its up to Conley to justify his draft position and we're in business

I agree. Everybody says he is better closer to the LOS. Let him put on 10-15 lbs and light ppl up.

Naw why change him? You don't take a guy top 10 then ask him to change positions. He's like the LeBron of football with his versatility. Line him up everywhere and make offenses have fits trying to account for him. Imo derwin fixes 3 problems on our defense lack of team speed/athleticism, guarding te's/rbs and secondary help. I like him better than fitz

He played just as much linebacker as safety at FSU and showed better the close he was to the line of scrimmage. The Lebron James of football? C'mon now.

If you could have your choice in 2nd round between Sam Hubbard and Harold Landry who would you pick. And if you can give a reason why you would pick one over the other

Easily Landry for me. Hubbard is a better fit for a balanced 4-3 front with his size and length, but Landry is clearly the better pass rusher. Landry has elite bend and very good explosiveness out of his stance. My major concerns with Landry center around what shape he keeps himself in and if he can truly be an every down player. When he was healthy in 2017, he was kept on a strict snap count.
