Does not mean it is the best romance ever made, it is barely even a romance at all to be quite honest because other themes greatly override the entire film. You love the film great, I think it is horse**** and total crap. If you honestly think The Princess Bride is one of the top 10 best romantic films you have ever seen, you clearly have either not seen many or have an different sense of what a romance is supposed to be. The Princess Bride is a love story told in a fantasy setting. Call it what you want, but the main/primary/A plot is a love story between Wesley and Buttercup. There is no argument against that. The main theme of the movie is true love conquers all. That's stated in the movie itself about a million times.
seminoles1
I seriously don't understand why you are so hung up on a movie having to be only 1 genre. Almost every single movie ever made can fit into multiple genres.

That's stated in the movie itself about a million times. So Robin Hood Men in Tights is great romance, so is Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Lord of The Rings are all romances as well? I really have no major romance that is done in a fantasy setting because to me then it is a freaking fantasy, just like a cartoon is a cartoon. Most movies have a love story, does not mean it is a great romance. Sure Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Snow White, Cinderella etc are all great romances? Yeah compared to The Princess Bride they are and no one is nominated them so much so they are #1 seed in the romance category. I hate The Princess Bride as a film, especially when it is put in a genre it has no place being in. Love conquers all in The Shape of Water and that movie is **** as well, just because it has a dumb supposedly romantic theme does not mean the movie is literally romantic. You love the film, great. Pretty sure I am not changing my mind and neither are you. Love the movie, I hate it, so what. I will never say The Princess Bride is a better romance than An Officer and a Gentleman, no freaking way on earth that is true in any way. Lucky for it the romance category is filled with many so so romantic films so could be easy to advance.

Ozzy
Hey I just saw Conan the Destroyer again, that broad had romantic interest in Conan but he stayed loyal to Valeria in the end. Chalk that up to a great romance movie? Nah, it is a badass film though, great fantasy film not nominated and what would I rather watch between that and The Princess Bride, big mystery. You're the worst. I'm done trying with you. The romance is not a subplot in The Princess Bride. It is the driving force of the entire movie. How could I forget this one? Lucky for me I only have four noms.
