The Oilers bought out Sekera freeing 3 million in cap space.

They now have about 12.5 million unused.

So Holland will be shopping for a top 6 winger that can score.

Hopefully he doesn’t spend it all. It would be nice if he managed to get the team some cap space for the future.

Although the future doesn’t look great with Nurse up first. RNH will need a new deal although I’m not sure if he will be getting much of a raise.

If Bouchard, Benson and a few others reach potential the trades will be happening.

Ooof

That Lucic contract sticks out like like a red bullseye in a snowbank.

Hopefully this year he can put a few pucks in the net. He will never be worth that contract  but his physical game, toughness and reputation have value. It’s his scoring that has vanished.

This screams to me that Montreal has something brewing in FA and wanted to shed some money. Shaw is coming off the best year of his career, and his salary is sub 4m AAV with 3 years left. Possible that they just wanted to try and sell high (27 years old, had only scored 30 points twice in his career before last year's career high).

Were getting the band back together.

Bob rumors are AAV of $10 Million from the Panthers. That's gonna be a terrible contract in a few years.

Yeah, a lot of these are going to be horrific. The Duchene term is too long, but aav is great.

There is legit merit in just avoiding free agency all together and just trying to poach cost controlled players from cap strapped teams

We may very well be better off trading Hallsy.

I think he has to sign it tonight though, right? Or that 8th year disappears?

No clue. However, if the Panarin deal is the ballpark for Hall, I think we may be better off trading him. With his injury history, that deal would be brutal to have on our books. I love Hall but, damn.
