Is Matt Ryan a HOFer? If not how close is he?

Assuming he plays at least 3 more seasons and produces at his typical level, Matt Ryan will hit 60,000 passing yards and 400 passing TDs. Even with the inflated passing numbers of today’s game, that’s rarified air. The only other guys in that group:

Brees

Brady

Manning

Favre

Marino

Rivers and Roethlisberger will almost certainly join that group. Rodgers is more likely than not to make it, but he’s a little ways away. Stafford has a punchers chance of getting there.

So that’s pretty good company for Ryan. He will also have an MVP, something that Brees, Roethlisberger, Stafford, and Rivers don’t have. Given all of that, wouldn’t he seem to be putting together a decent HOF-level resume? I actually think he’s got a solid case, but I wanted to see if anyone else thought so?

No. He's a good quarterback and is the greatest in Atlanta's history, but he is simply not good enough for the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is more than just numbers. He's never won a Super Bowl (and Atlanta's epic choke doesn't help) and rarely has been considered among the best at his position.

Matt Ryan is a former MVP who is going to finish his career as one of the most statistically prolific passers in NFL history. I think he was pretty easily on par with Jim Kelly as a player.

It’s one thing if you don’t think he’s in, but spare me the “low standard” nonsense. He’s going to end his career as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks EVER.

There is a low standard. Matthew Stafford is likely going to retire as one of the most statistically prolific passers as well, should he get in? For many, there’s more to it than stats.

Matt Ryan, aside from one season, has never been the best QB in the league. He’s never really been consistently in the conversation as amongst the best either, meaning never in the conversation to be as good/better than the top QBs. And for the HOF, that matters. Stats and accomplishments - the latter of which Ryan actually lacks in some respects - are important too, but being consistently being elite should matter more. Putting in everybody with good stats is a low standard.

And Matt Stafford should go in the HOF.

Joe Flacco is still the best QB out of the 2008 QB Class and it's not even close.

No.... not really. Was Nick Foles the best QB out of the 2012 Draft Class?

2nd* Forgot Russ was in that draft class.
