GIANTS GAIN GIANT ~Inside the Locker
Yesterday, The Giants traded with Los Angeles Chargers to acquire veteran receiver, Mike Williams.
We here at Inside the Locker knew that the Giants front office had their eye on several different receivers which included Atlanta’s, Julio Jones who just went to the New England Patriots for a king’s ransom.  The other team was their division rival, the Dallas Cowboys for Amari Cooper.  Rumors were going around that they were even involved with the Bears to acquire recently franchise tagged Allen Robinson.

We got a chance to speak with the general manager about how it played out behind closed doors, This is what he had to say…
“Well first off, we believe in what our head coach is telling us in terms of what he needs for this offense to start clicking”.  “Joe Judge has done an absolute tremendous job with the defense his first year and at least a small part of that was the previous gm allowed him to be heavily involved with the signing of players.”  “What Judge is telling us is that he needs a big physical size/height/weight type veteran receiver”.  After several meetings with the front office and coaching staff we felt that we needed to trade to get one as there were several to select from, a lot of veteran talent is on the block; mainly because this draft class of receivers is stacked with potential talent, we’re talking the next Julio Jones could be found in this draft.”  “So I went shopping for a receiver.  We talked to several teams and ultimately felt that Mike Williams was the best fit for the team.  With Williams being on his final contract year, after the trade was finalized, we presented him a 5 year contract extension the same day of signing with us.  Letting him know immediately, that we were very serious about making him the number one receiver, and in doing so saved our cap 8 million this year to acquire more talent.

Mike Williams has a ton of talent, he’s worked with both; a future Hall of Famer in Phillip Rivers and last season, first year rookie Justin Herbert who had an outstanding rookie season.”  “Mike Williams we feel is going to provide Daniel Jones the help he needs.  As front office, we haven’t provided him with much help at that position.  Which is why I was brought in, my job as general manager is to provide the coach with what he needs.”  “We believe that to give Daniel Jones a real opportunity to take the next step, we have got to work toward his strengths and not his weaknesses and having that tall physical big body receiver so that he has more options on the short routes.  Coach Judge also said he that Sterling Shepard is moving back to the slot and that currently Slayton is penciled in as other outside receiver.  We believe that adding Williams and perhaps even drafting one at 11, that, we can now focus on the free agency.  There is a ton of talent in it this year and from what I’m seeing there are a number of players that would fit this scheme.  So we’re super excited about that.

Washington officially announces the arrival of Eric Fisher and Benardrick McKinney.

The Washington Football Team is pleased to welcome the additions of Eric Fisher and Benardrick McKinney to the organization. Both veterans bring important skillsets to positions lacking in the previous season. Fisher is coming off a pretty serious injury, but we are confident he will be ready to play at some point in 2021. McKinney will anchor our defense - something Rivera cherishes. Both close two holes on the team, leaving Washington's draft options a lot more open.

Arizona Cardinals Bring in Casey Hayward

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Casey Hayward. Casey’s been one of the best corners in the league for the better part of the last five years and should fit nicely into our secondary. While last year was a little bit of a step back from what we’re accustomed to seeing from Casey, we attribute that to mainly him being banged up and a lack of support over the top. With the safety core we have, we’re confident Casey can return to a #1 corner in this league. This does signal a departure from Patrick Peterson and we thank him for his contribution to the Cardinals over the years. However, we feel that he’s ready to move on from us and we are as well. Casey covers the void PP left and then some, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our defense later this off-season.
