I'm too lazy to find the post I made but the Vikings have a 91% chance of a FRB. The Saints and Panthers both have 4% chance.

5-6 different things would have to happen for Minnesota to lose the FRB even if they lose out.

I think that’s a little misleading. If the Vikings lose out, they probably won’t get the bye. Just one of the Rams, Saints or Panthers would have to win their last 2.

If the Vikings just lose 1 it’s a different story.

You're right.

The original post was going off of what happens if we beat Green Bay and lose to Chicago. We were discussing having something to play for in week 17.

If we beat Green Bay THEN it would take hard to lose the first round bye.

It would take:

-MN win vs. GB and loss vs. CHI
-New Orleans to lose 1 of two vs. ATL/TB
-Atlanta to lose 1 of 2 vs. NO/CAR
-LA to lose 1 of 2 vs. TEN/SF
-Carolina to win out vs. TB/ATL

Carolina is the only one that could take the bye from us as they hold the H2H against us while we hold it over New Orleans, LA, and ATL.

Per 538, we now have a 99% chance of a first round bye.

Carolina is the lone team to be able to leap-frog us and it'd take A LOT to happen for that to be an issue.

Not a lot really though, right? If they win out and the Vikings lose next week, don't  they get #2?

No. If we lose next week and they win out, we'd still be the 73% favorites to get the bye.

Last time I looked, it was 5 different things to happen for us to lose the bye.

-MN loss vs. CHI
-New Orleans to lose 1 of two vs. ATL/TB
-Atlanta to lose 1 of 2 vs. NO/CAR
-LA to lose 1 of 2 vs. TEN/SF
-Carolina to win out vs. TB/ATL

I was fooling around with Playoff Predictor and I have all four of those things happening, so we'd better win vs. Chicago. :P
