Bears sign QB Andy Dalton

Foles was 2-4 last year when the Bears rushed for less than 65 yards.

Dalton is 7-17 when his team does not rush for 65+ yards.

You switch Dalton for Foles last year and the Bears are at best 7-9 with a loss to the Falcons.

They don't get to OT vs New Orleans (where receivers dropped 2 straight passes)

They probably lose to Tampa as well (36 rushing yards!), so 6-10

Apparently Dalton sniffing is a thing among the Rich Eisen types.

"He deserves success for his hard work and his wife gives to charities!" (what does that have to do with performance in the NFL?)

This lie is going around now. Well Dalton won't win many games with his arm but he won't lose many either!

Andy Dalton Below 70 rating starts:

  • 12 of his last 33 games were sub 70 ratings  36.4%
  • 34 of his first 113 starts are below 70 rating. 30.0%
  • 4 for 4 in his playoff games  100%

Mitchell Trubisky Below 70 rating starts

  • 8 of his last 33 games were sub 70  24.2%
  • 6 of his first 19 were below 70 rating  31.6%
  • 0 for 2 in his playoff games  0%
  • He also adds value with running and scrambling

Nick Foles Below 70 rating starts

  • 10 of his last 33 games were sub 70 ratings  30.3%
  • 4 of his first 28 games were below 70  14.3%
  • This excludes 4 long relief games which were all quality
    • 2012 vs Dallas
    • 2013 vs NY
    • 2016 vs Indy
    • 2020 vs Atlanta
  • This also excludes the week 17 exhibition game vs Dallas in 2017
    • feel free to add it if it enriches your life
  • 1 for 6 in his playoff games 16.7%

Did you mix up foles and dalton?

He is 4 for 4 in having below 70 rating games in the playoffs as in all 4 games sucked below 70

Foles dipped below 70 in his last of 6 games (because Alshon handed the ball to the Saints and it counted as an interception) He is 1 for 6

It’s because he flashed a couple of games in Dallas.

It's more because they have limited options and Dalton has past ties with the Bears staff (Lazor and Deflippo) than anything else.

Pace and Nagy needed to make a change at QB in order try to save their jobs after Mitch and Foles both failed.  They cannot go into McCaskey's office and say we're sticking either of them and expect to still have a job in November (which they may not anyhow). They needed a new game plan to sell.

Dalton is Foles replacement. Mitch was let go, and now they have to find Mitch's replacement....which is probably moving up in the draft.

I would have gone Fitzmagic easily if they had a stopgap as plan B

I would take Dalton over Fitz any day of the week, and both got paid the same amount.

But that's arguing semantics as far as I'm concerned.  The differences between Dalton, Foles, and Fitz are so minute that it's not even worth debating.  All 3 of them are backup quality QBs and neither are good options as a viable starter.
