2021 Rookie Talk

Odafe is going to need a pure/clear stats advantage over Parsons to win DROY at this point. Hype behind Parsons plus the Cowboys/Media rub is going to make him very tough to unseat otherwise.

Interesting that his main competition is a college teammate in Micah Parsons and Greg Rousseau who could've easily been the pick for us had a couple things fallen different in the draft. Asante Jr. is definitely having a good year but it's really hard to nab that award as a CB. Shouldn't sleep on Payton Turner(who a couple of us in here really loved), Jaelan Phillips, Kwity Paye, or Joe Tryon either. It's a long season and a couple of those guys have a shot at compiling some numbers.

Vote will be interesting. Good chance Parsons finishes the season as a front runner, but if a large chunk of the field has similar numbers there could more spread out votes than usual. Even Queen stole 2 votes away from Chase Young last year, so the 2021 tally could really surprise folks.

Injury is probably the only way Parsons doesn’t nab it. He’s been a stud and highly productive in the star column.

Though Oweh is definitely the most likely to catch him at this point. He’s got some notoriety from the play against the Chiefs. He just needs to crack that 10-12 sack threshold and he’ll have a legitimate shot. Especially with the historic mystique of “Ravens defense” and if they right the ship to be an elite unit, Oweh could very well be one of the faces of the unit.

A future defensive backbone of Humphrey, Clark, Oweh, and Madubuike is definitely exciting. Feels like we have a young(ish) ascending player at every position on defense except ILB. Fortunately if Queen continues his play so far this year we have plenty of draft capital in the middle rounds next year to add there.

Funny that Baker is on this list. If Oweh is looking for some numbers, both of our games against CLE could be a decent shot. Mayfield will hold onto the ball and look for anything developing late. Potential coverage Sack field day.

This (specifically Zach Wilson mention) is part of why I'm not completely sold on Denver as an elite defense going into our matchup... they've played the Giants, the Jags, and the Jets to this point.

Azeez Ojulari- 3 Sacks

Micah Parsons- 2.5 Sacks

Odafe Oweh- 2 Sacks

Greg  Rousseau- 2 Sacks

Joe Tryon- 2 Sacks

Payton Turner- 1 Sack

Jaelan Phillips- 0.5 Sacks

Kwity Paye- 0 Sacks

This sort of annoys me. To take away the half sacks from Houston, but not credit Oweh for two sacks in the Raiders game is fraudulent. It’s times like this that I wish I was an active member of the Twitter community, I’d certainly compile some clips of that game and demand to know what funny business the official NFL stats people are pulling.
