GMs can't miss very much on high picks when they have no money for FA. Ben signed his $C2 then the cap sent stagnate for 2 years so players get cut and you have Justin Hartwig at the center position. If "draft the best QB in the NFL and surround him with elite talent" is the model that also didn't start with Mahomes and also isn't easy to accomplish.
