The type of play that led them to a SB? You honestly think after his MVP season, Cam Newton of all people would of been coachable? Asked to do things differently? Learn the position? Like Vick until Andy Reid, no one forced him to actually become a real QB rather then a 260lb Bowling Ball.

Cam was no doubt a better passer. The only reason Cam is struggling right now is because he physically can't throw the ball like he used to. The last time he was healthy he was on his way to his best season as a passer. No one "forced Cam to be a real QB". What does that even mean. The only reason Ron Rivera has a job right now is because leaned on Cam to be his 4th down conversion machine. Because he never replaced Jordan Gross, or gave him any WR's that could separate after Steve Smith. He relied on Cam to establish the running game for his RB's and work miracles on 3rd down, and be his catalyst for ball control offense. I wanted to see Cam be a prolific passer too. Thats why Chudzinski was good for him his rookie year. Cam was throwing all over the field. Then they got rid of him and Ron took the path to quickest success with Cam because he was on the verge of being fired pre 2013. The FO finally made the right call in bringing in Norv Turner in 2018 and Cam was looking excellent. The man is simply not the player he used to be because of his shoulder. That's all there is to it. I'm not saying he was ever a pre snap genius like Peyton Manning because he's not. But I saw Cam call audibles and I saw him be a field general in Carolina. A lot of people here look at his completion % and his lack of dink and dunk stats and think he wasn't a capable thrower and that's just not true. If you look at the way the offense in Carolina was ran and the pieces he was surrounded with its not surprising that his stats weren't inflated. Carolina ran the ball more on first and second down more than most teams in the league for a number of years when Cam was here. It was part of Ron's philosophy. The offensive line was good here for maybe 1-2 years, interior was strong in 2015. But the point being is that Cam had less opportunities to throw and when the running game didn't work he was frequently forced into 3rd and long high pressure throws. Yes he had a stud in Greg Olsen, but when you have Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn, Philly Brown, Damiere Byrd as your best WR options, its probably not going to work most of the time. That said Cam wasn't perfect, he made his share of mistakes and his accuracy was off at times. Some here act like its Cam's job to play QB like everyone else and it isn't. His advantage was his rocket arm and is ability to automatically convert 3rd and short yard gains. The arm is a shell of what it used to be thanks to TJ Watt. In his prime Cam was becoming a clutch thrower when the game was on the line. Cam will never be in his MVP form again because he physically can't. His potential was only realized for a short time. It's unfortunate and disappointing for what should have been a fun and long career to watch. So Cam might be a shell of himself and a guy like him is easy to pick on because of his personality and his dress. But I think he does deserve a little bit of context. Especially from a league and media that villainized him for much of his career. He wasn't just a "running QB" until very recently because that's what his arm has forced him to become. Anything post 2018 Cam just isn't the same guy. Edited September 13, 2021 by RabidPanther89

That's the exact philosophy both Dan Reeves and Jim Mora applied to Vick. Do what wins games! Which meant, run Michael run! Newton has the accuracy of a 2 year old, absolutely no touch. Everything he threw was a Rocket. Only problem now is his arm is shot so he has nothing else to fall back on but the legs of a broken down body from a decade of abuse. biggie.
Cam is without a shadow of a doubt the most overrated QB of the 2010s.

I don't know that I would agree... But it's certainly an interesting conversation
