Cuba Smugglers

Intro

We have played arguably the top 3 teams in the league and they sure looked like it against us. We get some guys back from injury and look to defeat a very quality Gotham team that will be playing to prove something against us.

Offense

We turned pass happy with Dalvin Cook out of the game. While we are certainly thrilled to have him return we definitely noticed the absence of Xavien Howard this week. Minkah Fitzpatrick will likely have additional responsibility helping Justin Jefferson so getting Julio Jones back from injury means we’ve got more then one successful option for Carr to get going with. Dalvin Cook as a receiver out the backfield is also a nice option to continue feeding our RB1 and we want 5-6 of his 25 touches to be as a recover. In other words, we are going to continue opening the playbook here as we are confident the Chris Jones-less Gotham pass rush won’t be able to significantly hinder Carr in the pocket.

Dalvin Cook and the running game won’t be forgotten inspired of pass friendly offense this week. He and Jamaal Williams have proven to be worthy of handling the ball and are a nice blend of check down options to avoid Carr having too much focus on throws in the 10-15 yard range. Cook will run to edges and particularly against Shaq Barrett as Gotham does maintain a quality edge presence between he and Flowers. With Elgton Jenkins defunding today, we can run to the left with greater success behind him and Bolles. This opens up our play action game and is an additional avenue to give Jamaal Williams an open lane or two for big runs. We ultimately expect a productive game in that area.

In our passing game, we are going to utilize Justin Jefferson and Julio in an even time share provided Minkah serves a solo deep help for Jefferson. Otherwise we are going to make him a focal point in our target share as he fits with Carr’s sweet spot. Julio will be featured more as a deep threat which allows Jefferson to work the intermediate area. Rondale Moore will continue serving as the tiatery option and split reps with Tim Patrick alternating as WR3 or subbing for Julio. We will bunch Julio and Jefferson frequently but in the redzone we will isolate Julio and bunch Jefferson with Patrick or Moore.

Defense

Gotham will likely trot out Mac Jones and he is certainly legit. We are going to play a ordinarily  man coverage based scheme. Our CBs aren’t BDL fan favorites but the safeties on top of them are absolutely legitimate. Shaquill Griffin has improved his performance drastically in the last few weeks and will alternate safety help from James, Mathieu, or Jackson. Containing Hill is basically the focal point of our defense. Higgins will give us some trouble but Jones having one weapon to make the focal point is something we are comfortable with.

Stopping the running game is respectable ordeal but aside from Shaq Mason imposing his will in the trenches we are comfortable dealing with whatever running game Gotham tries outside of running behind him. We are playing primarily man based coverage. Callahan will alternate getting help with two man under schemes or playing 5-10 yards off from Higgins and preparing to defend the deep ball.

Gotham Gashslayers

OFFENSE

Frogs said he didn’t want us to start Mac, so we are going back to Wentz this week.  Balanced attack, we’ll look to spread the ball around and not be shy testing Cuba’s secondary in the intermediate and deep target range.

DEFENSE  - 43

We’ll be playing a majority of zone against Carr and friends.  We have enough guys to fill out a defensive roster, so we expect them to be functional and effective in general.

god, mood

DeSean has had two big plays all season and otherwise been a total nonfactor. The rest of Gotham's offense just lacks any playmakers outside of Tyreek Hill, who is getting the bulk of Cuba's defensive attention. Don't see them stringing a lot of scoring drives together even with Wentz looking serviceable (and better!) this week.
