Jones

 

We are screwed. Baker is *maybe* better than Tannehill. We need to break bank for Wilson or Rodgers. Those guys are all young.

I’ll never understand not blitzing, especially with guys like Myles, Clowney and Takk who are athletic enough to drop into a zone at times. We should be sending guys from everywhere.

It’s just hard to pretend “we’re screwed” because I’m looking at a list that’s comprised of dudes Baker has gone toe to toe with fairly recently.  We just beat the brakes off of Burrow and the Bengals a week ago.

This isn’t a 7 on 7 competitive.  Defense, line play, etc., all win games too.

The ONLY path I see to winning a super bowl with Baker is building an all time great defense (I don’t mean literally the best ever, I mean similar to 15’ Broncos, LOB, 02’ Bucs, etc.)

 

The franchise needs to accept right now, Baker will never be able to carry an offense. However, there are still ways to win with that.

Also, he traded punches with Herbert and lost a game no QB should ever lose, beat Tannehill last season, went shot for shot with Lamar last year at the end of the season and lost by a couple to Mahomes on the road week 1 this year.

And I get it’s easy to look at those games and say “and the common theme is we lost most of them” but that absolutely ignores any context of those games. In the most recent matchup against all of those guys our defense has allowed the following number of points.

Titans: 35

Ravens: 47 (38 in the first game too btw)

Bills: 16 (but we haven’t played them under Stefanski/Woods or since Allen has taken “the next step” to be fair)

Chargers: 47

Chiefs: 33

Bengals: 16 (although we allowed 30 and 34 last season)

Pats: 45

 

Like, Christ almighty how many of those game should any QB be expected to win?  As I said in another thread, that’s literally the same amount of 40 point games allowed as the Steelers defense has since week 7 of the 2006 NFL SEASON!!

idgaf who the QB is, you can’t have a defense like that and expect wins.

Yeah I don’t remember Brady having defenses giving up 40+ all those years.  When Manning won SBs his defense stepped up in the playoffs. Those are two of the best ever and they needed good defenses to win.

I think that’s fair.

I also don’t think it’s Wilson or bust or Baker or bust.

I think it’s Baker… for now. And likely next season.  If that goes reasonably well, franchise him.  If it doesn’t, maybe make a move in the draft or whatever but do so with a much improved team to help them and hopefully an established culture of at least being respectable.

Better one...what did Mac Jones do to make you think he is a stud? Dude was playing 7 on 7 and his OC called an absolute gem of a games.

I think 80% of Brady’s career with the pats he had a top10 defense

I’m not gonna say a damned thing against Jones after today.  He did what he had to do and made the right throw.

But yeah, McD absolutely had Woods on the ropes from the first drive.

He just straight torched us today. I’m not gonna bad mouth him after the dimes he dropped.

Mac made great reads and adjustments at the line and dropped some dimes today. Limited sample size, sure. That’s the biggest thing you can even pick at from today though.
