That is a lot of eggs in the draft basket.

We are going to need to nail at least 2 offensive picks [WR, RG] and have early solid starters from the draft... that is before we even worry about the defense.

Agreed. We're going to need to somehow come away with a 2017 Saints like draft.

Minus the 2 1st round picks they had.

Lots of eggs in the draft basket and not a lot of resources to get them with.

We simply cannot pass on picking an OG high or likely a WR. Which will suck if some serious CB or S talent is staring at us.

Here's the 2021 Green Bay Packers starting offensive line, and a quick synopsis of those players' histories:

OT/ David Bakhtiari Rd4/109 started all 16 games as a rookie.

OC/ Josh Meyers Rd2/62 started 6 games as a rookie before injury

T/G Royce Newman Rd4/142 started 16 games as a rookie

OG Jon Runyan Rd6/192 started 16 games as 2nd year player

OG/ Elgton Jenkins Rd2/44 started 14 games as a rookie, 16 as a 2nd year player, made Pro Bowl 3rd season.

A very good group--and all were drafted. Obviously, Poles can't be as patient in drafting guys, but he can come close.

It's not over yet.

They also have one of the best OL coaches in the world and one of the best QBs in the world. They aren’t trying to develop a 2nd year QB.

You can get OLmen anywhere in the draft… but are they ready week 1 of their rookie years?

Some are. Which is why I posted what I did. Luckily, though, the Bears don't have to construct an entire line in one off-season.

Would you like to make a bet on that?

A bet on whether they should build out the OL?

Not really, common sense tells us you should build the best possible OL around a young QB.

They might not, but that would be stupid.

A bet on whether they need to construct an entire offensive line in one off-season. Meaning, five new new starters and most likely some depth, as well.

Which is what you asserted.

How would we ever know who wins this bet? There would appear to be a lot of variables here

If the Bears continue doing what they're doing, and get a decent line out of it, then I clearly win the bet.

I don’t want 5 new starters.  That was never going to happen.

I want a line where Mustipher, Simmons and Dozier don’t dress in game day.

What's the timeline on this?

Before or after Fields memorial service?

We all know they need to continue to make significant investments in the line. They can’t “wait till next year” with the guys who keep Fields healthy.

You'll lose the bet because at this pace the Bears will sign 6 OL over the next 6 years and by then the OL will be better. You lose, Windy! Joke's on us!

If you're utterly convinced that Fields is a great QB, how can you justify surrounding him with a team of fringe starters?

Bears fans claim they want the franchise to change. They claim they want a great QB. They claim they want a Super Bowl contender. But they'll justify signing expensive defenders while carrying water for a regime that refuses to spend on the OL.

It's almost like this team's fans get exactly what they want. And every 4 years, when things go wrong, they blame Ted and George, the team hires some new characters, and the cycle repeats with hopes renewed.
