As of now we don’t know know exactly what the staff will look like. Let discuss and predict the future of the staff and how you would like it to look and how you would like it to perform. Is there anyone you would like to keep? Maybe you want to keep the staff with a few changes.

From GM, to specialist.

Offensive Minded, to defense of minded.

Let’s predict the 2022 staff, hopes and dreams.

I really don’t care if the new head coach has an offensive or defensive background, but they absolutely need to be forward thinking.

And they need to know how to communicate with the QB. That HC/QB relationship is extremely important, and something that we haven’t seen from Zimmer.

Offensively, my ideal vision;

GM: Ed Dodds
HC: Brian Daboll
OC: Joe Brady

I’m undecided on how I would proceed with the defense. I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with the scheme, they just need an infusion of talent. I’d be curious about bringing back Jerry Grey as the DC.

The whole thing need new sets of eyes. It’s time to start over from the General Manager on down. Although I get the unsettling feeling that Spielman is safe.

This is where I'm at, although I'm hoping Spielman goes with Zimmer.

The new HC will bring in his own staff, which I'm more than OK with. I'd give preference to hanging onto McCardell as WR coach and Ficken as ST coordinator. Also believe Sugarman and the training staff should stay on.

*Also see no reason to move on from the Bryz.

I forget where I heard it but the Wilf's LOVE Spielman and if they don't want him as GM anymore, they'll just "promote" him to something "higher up" like EVP of something or CEO kind of like his brother Chris over in Detroit.

I agree. The WRs have looked very good and KJ is coming along very well.

I'd also think about keeping the TE coach as Conklin has been a very nice piece this year with ISJ out.

I couldn't name a single candidate.....but here is what I want:

Someone that will give rookies a fair shot to start, and more importantly, can develop them into players (and wants to).

Someone that goes for it on 4th down inside the opponent's territory (other than end of halfs/games) fairly often.

Someone that believes in passing to set up the run, not the opposite.

On D? Someone that keeps the foot on the gas at the end of halfs and games, and doesn't love the prevent D.

Someone that understands time management really, really, well.

Most importantly, someone with a process they believe in, but is flexible enough to evolve it with the talent he/she has available to them, and puts his players in a position to succeed.

What about Vic Fangio for the defense. Does he have any ties to potential offensive head coach hires?

If the Vikings are going to make a coaching change this week, when would the news leak/be reported? I'd figured it would be by 3 pm EST, but here we are

I’d say out of respect they are going to let Zimmer finish the season and let him coach one more game at home and let him try and retire on a high note with a win.

I honestly think they are going to let him “resign” as head coach

Honestly a lot is going to depend on what they plan on doing with the team.

I personally think the staff should be blown up. Spielman got the Coach he chose and the QB he chose vs. going younger on both ways.

If the new staff wants to keep Cousins, you dang near still have to go for it. I'm 100% wanting someone like a Doug Peterson add one more talented WR whether its in the draft early, or in the free agent pool. Plenty of talent out there and shoot your shot. I'd prefer to target a 1st round receiver, and use the money you can find to attack other positions. Clearly we need more starting capable weapons on the offense when Theilen goes down. I know there will be a ton of disagreement in this thread with this theory, and I know both sides of the line need to be attacked, but keeping Cousins and going after it yet, we don't have the cap space nor the draft capitol to "fix" the defense enough, we need to explode on offense. Whatever skills could help. Even worse case if it doesn't work. We have two young talented pieces to build around, along with 3 hopefully above average offensive lineman including O'Neill, Cleveland, & Darrisaw hopefully.

Now lets look at it another way if Cousins is gone, I would really like someone "young thinking". Even a complete roll reversal as in someone open to analytics, & trying something new. I haven't exactly dove into it enough to find someone like this, but if we go this route I'd be willing to throw off some of the load and just move on from some veteran players. I've been much farther into the draft this year than I have the past couple of years, and the talent pool is great this year. While the QB position is lacking, I really don't think its as bad as some of the people that are comparing it to "Gabbert, Locker, and Ponder" year really was. Lets get one of these guys, and look to build and do what we can with one of them. I'm still a bigger Carson Strong fan than most. While he isn't the most athletic, his arm talent is what really draws me to him, probably the best pocket awareness is the class. While athleticism seems to be what everyone is looking into more, just having pocket awareness with an average offensive line can help overcome costly turnovers and unneeded sacks taken. His arm throwing to Jefferson and his ability to take chances could maybe even elevate this offense with some more help. I'd love to have him in an Andy Reid type system, so maybe someone like Eric Bienemy could be a good option.

With the new rules allowing teams to interview new coaches this next week keeping Zimmer an extra week seems like a mistake. Especially since he will likely play starters and try to win the Bears game with established veterans. Instead of focusing on developing younger guys.

For the fans? Yes and probably for the players.

But there is a solid chance Zimmer and Spielman both are gone.

They are not going to try and go out and lose.

The Wilfs just don't seem like they will be willing to go ahead and fire a coach at the end of the season like that. I think they honestly have a lot of respect for Spielman and Zimmer. Even a slight friendship. They were part of hand picking these guys to take over. They both have made the Wilfs a fair amount of money just putting competitive teams on the field, and even bringing in Superstars with value to them.

If it was a first term coach, I would agree, you let them go. Zimmer is most likely heading into retirement on his ranch, and was known as one of the better defensive minded coaches in the last 20+ years. I don't think they want to see him go out like that.

Let him have his last dance at home, maybe we can get a win, let him take off his hat and wave to the fans one last time. Little bit of a respect thing.

In a way its no different than the old guy at a lot of jobs. Isn't what he used to be, but still okay at his job. You eventually let him know its the end, let him finish the job, and say your goodbye and let them retire. I don't see Zimmer taking another "big" coaching gig in future. Maybe an advisor role somewhere for where ever his kid ends up. But it will be time to spend with his "kids".
