Think of it as paying 27M for the QB position in total. If Lance and Jimmy flipped salaries they wouldn’t move him unless they got a great offer.

Think long term. You can roll salary cap space now. Sitting on $27 million because someone might get injured isn't a smart business decision.

But that's not the situation and it's not analogous because Lance is playing every game for his 27 million. Jimmy is sitting the bench. You're just wasting 27 million on a guy not playing.

It defeats the purpose of having a rookie QB salary. Hell, lance's contract hit is 7+ and sudfeld is 2. That's nearly 40 million dollar QB room when you're starting a rookie QB.

Rolling that money over pays for nearly entire year of Nick Bosa's pending contract.

Fair, I hadn’t considered the rollover aspect.

Jed York saying they’re open to keeping Jimmy G to artificially inflate his value is peak preseason fun for me. Not a soul believes you are stashing a $27 million backup quarterback who might even be better than your rookie quarterback you traded several firsts to move up to get…except some desperate team’s GM.

You just never know.. Maybe you should offer multiple second round picks, just to be sure you get him

Is he having trouble staying healthy again?

They’ve moved Trent back over to the left side, Wynn reportedly hasn’t been doing so hot on the right. He’s on his 5th year option, so I think even if he were to have a strong season, Bill’s not looking to backup the money truck for a guy whose been solid-but-not-great and has missed almost half of his 4-year career.

It looks like they’re willing to roll with Cajuste/Herron on the right, or move Onwenu back over there and have someone else start at guard.

Wynn’s a solid tackle that’ll stabilize the position for you, when healthy. You don’t want him to be your best linemen, but he’s certainly a starting tackle that you don’t actively look to replace - so that’s something in this league. He’s just in a contract year and isn’t going to get that bag from NE.
