On Tuesday, Kirk Cousins got the cast removed from his right foot. On Tuesday evening, he slipped on a Salvation Army apron.

The Vikings quarterback made one of his first public appearances after his Achilles tendon surgery, joining teammates at the team's annual Thanksgiving event at the St. Paul Salvation Army. Cousins and his wife, Julie, joined Vikings teammates and their significant others to serve Thanksgiving meals to community members. The quarterback sat down in a walking boot and chatted with fans while signing autographs, as his son Cooper played touch football in the back of the gym.

Cousins: "We'd committed to it before the injury, and I realized we can still get there. It's fun to bring my son Cooper. We've learned that it is truly more happy-making to give than to receive. We came last year, and it was a great event. It was fun to be here with teammates and spouses. It's a little change of scenery, change of pace."

"During the season, we go from our house to work and back home, to the hotel and the stadium, and go home. We're so insulated that you don't really get to interact with fans all that often in a conversational way. I think it's a real positive for us as players to be reminded of how much this team means to the community. Not that you ever forget, but it's good just to get that reminder again, of the difference we can make with the platform of being a pro football player in Minnesota."

As Julie Cousins tried her best to pull her football-crazed son away from the touch football game in the back of the room, the DJ at the event played Creed's "Higher," the song the quarterback has helped turn into something of an anthem for the Vikings.

Did they really have to use the word “Slipped” (on an apron)? 😆

While you may not be able to read it, they have Kirk as the #3 free agent amongst all 2024 free agents (and Danielle as #5).

Would assume we should be able to get a decent comp pick for Cousins or Dobbs. Dont see a scenario where both return.

Hunter needs to be a priority. Same with adding a really good DL. Not just another guy like Phillips.

Dobbs’ performance the rest of the way in 2023 may or may not impact Kirk Cousins’ impending free agency, but if Cousins indeed departs for a new team this spring, ESPN has a wild theory.

One of its pundits believes Cousins could land in Green Bay with the rival Packers.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano: “My sleeper is Green Bay. Jordan Love doesn’t look like the answer, and while the Packers are as patient as any team in the league, they’re also used to winning. Cousins knows the Packers’ offense because it’s a derivative of Kyle Shanahan’s scheme from their time together in Washington, and Cousins and Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur could work well together.”

“I recognize this is out of left field and completely different from any way the Packers usually operate. But Love’s ‘extension’ includes a palatable $5.5 million in guaranteed salary in 2024 and nothing thereafter. If they get to the end of this season and decide Love isn’t the guy moving forward, the Packers might not feel like drafting another guy and waiting for him to develop. And even if they do that, Cousins could be the solution in the meantime for a team with a promising young wide receiver group."

Ultimately, if it's a choice between Dobbs and Kirk, I'm choosing Kirk.  While I wish Kirk had more mobility (like Josh does), his consistency and accuracy are off the charts as compared to Josh and probably will continue to be.  He may come more expensively, but they'd be paying for that reliability.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins is just two weeks removed from Achilles surgery, but he has already attended some meetings at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, according to O'Connell, who said he wants the 35-year-old Pro Bowler involved at the team facility.

O'Connell:  "I'm giving him projects. Having him be a part of it. He knows our offense — he knows it as well as any of us pretty much. It is kind of similar to our normal dialogue of Monday and Tuesday and as he gets into his tape study, I just asked him, 'I just want you to be involved. I just want you to be around our team. Be around.' He is going to start traveling when he gets cleared to do that. I think it will be a huge bonus for everybody to have him around."

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins talked to the media for the first time since his season-ending Achilles injury Oct. 29. He wore a boot on his right foot and jokingly said he’s in no rush.

“I’ve got nowhere to be for four months,” Cousins said, via Ben Goessling of the Star-Tribune.

Cousins, though, noted that the rehab time for Achilles injuries is shortening. Aaron Rodgers repeatedly has stated his desire to return this season after the Jets quarterback tore his Achilles in the season opener.

“The recovery time [for Achilles surgeries] seems to be shortening and shortening,” Cousins said.

Cousins did not get the “speed bridge” procedure, which accelerates healing with an internal brace, because enough of a tendon was still intact below the tear. He said he expects it to be a better repair long term.

Cousins’ bodywork specialist, Chad Cook, talked with Rodgers’ rehab specialists to gather information, and Cousins talked to Rodgers, Brian O’Neill and Cam Akers about the rehab process.

He said he spent time researching the five stages of grief after his injury.

“I’m still mad,” Cousins said, adding, “but I believe there’s still a lot more to the story up ahead.”

On Friday, just two days before the Vikings take on the Denver Broncos in Week 11, Cousins made it abundantly clear regarding his intentions for free agency. In short, he doesn’t even want to sniff the open market.

“My desire is to be a Viking, retire a Viking, and finish my career here,” Cousins told the Minneapolis radio station KFAN.

Dustin Schultz, Bleacher Report: “For a guy that looked to be well on his way out to a long-term contract potentially somewhere else, it seems that Cousins and the Vikings could — I don’t even wanna say repair that marriage because there really wasn’t anything to repair, but I would say rekindle would be the right word. Sources have told me that given the relationship they have, the history they have, how comfortable Kirk is with that organization, within that city, that fan base, that SKOL nation, the Vikings could very well potentially have Kirk Cousins back, at least in 2024, as opposed to him moving on somewhere else.”

I want him to retire a Viking in 2026. After he’s led us to two Super Bowl wins and groomed our QBOTF.
