The age difference is only a few months though isn’t it? I hope they find a way to extend Poyer but I’d put him behind Knox on my list. And it seems the staff loves Edmunds so I think it’s likely he gets done too.

If Beane keeps all 3 I will be amazed but thrilled.

Its less than a year as he just turned 31 and hyde turns 32 in the season. Hyde has one year left on his deal but with a cap hit of 10.8 mil and a dead cap of 7.2 mil if let go in 2023. While I get the appeal of adding knox and edmunds due to their age they could be seeking longer then a year or 2 extension which should allow beane to spread the wealth under a longer deal and shouldnt impact a shorter deal with Poyer, so I can definitely see the ability to re-sign all 3 especially with the way the cap is increasing so much over the next several years. It is hard to pass up on extending an all pro safety just because of his age. He has proven that he hasnt hit a wall and that a year or 2 extension with the ability to get out of year 2 if needed should be best. Im not saying he is on any particular level but look at guys like Rodney Harrison, Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Devin Mccourty, etc they played at a high level going in to their mid 30s and some in late 30s. Poyer being 31 this year even extending him to a max 3 year deal it puts him at 34 which is not out of the realm being able to still play at a high level. If he showed that his level of play was dropping off or if he wasnt an all pro safety I wouldnt even question not extending him but he has proven he still has it

Hyde still has a year left though doesn’t he?

If Epenesa can’t put it together this year, he never will. Also heard Boogie is down to about 270 which is great.

Epenesa needs to start well. He could get buried on depth chart if he starts slow and doesn't fit into the future core

Joe B saying that Tre will be likely on IR for the first 4 games, if thats the case should we be looking to find a veteran CB to come in? Having Dane and Elam as the only 2 guys for 4 weeks seems a bit worrisome and having someone who has been in the league for years could be useful. How much can a guy like joe haden cost at this point on a 1 year deal? Buddies with Von miller and hasnt had a real shot at a ring since coming to the league

Lost Harrison Phillips, Mario Addison and Levi Wallace sure.

Brought in all these dudes and basically improved in every area, especially with Von Miller coming over, Elam is better than Levi Wallace potentially, Saffold is a very good OG, Crowder is a solid slot WR, Phillips is a solid DT and so is Jones and Tim Settle is a stud who has tons of upside.

Von Miller
Roger Saffold
Kair Elam
Jamison Crowder
Jordan Phillips
OJ Howard
Tim Settle
DaQuan Jones

Basically they lost no one really considering the additions they made and they have a rock solid secondary obviously.  Drafted James Cook who will be a hell of a 3rd down back with great speed and versatility and get arguably the best punter in the draft and a badass in Araiza.  Pretty much Super Bowl or bust with arguably the best roster in football right now.

Rookies have already reported, veterans report soon. The season is starts 7 weeks from tonight!

Who’s pumped?!

What are you guys watching for in camp? Who needs a strong camp to make the roster? Who could be a hidden gem?

SO pumped!!

I'll be looking at how the offense gels with a new OC. I think Jameson Crowder needs to have a strong camp and develop a connection with Josh or McKenzie could over take him as the slot WR. I'll say the hidden gem will be Dane Jackson, if Elam struggles to pick up the defense and makes some bonehead plays in the preseason I can potentially see Jackson landing the #2 CB, assuming Tre is healthy to star the season!

I'm curious to see the reports on how much 12 personnel there is going on at camp. I think Crowder is a better WR then McKenzie but I think the future of the position is Shakir. At least i hope.

I think the 6-7 WR spots are going to be won by the guy who can win the punt returner job. The bottom end WR’s will see such few snaps that their offensive contributions won’t matter much and will come down to special teams. That’s the main reason Kumerow has a spot likely locked up. I think Diggs, Davis, Crowder, Kumerow, and Shakir are locks barring injury. I think McKenzie has the lead for the last spot if Beane decides to keep 6. However I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets cut if guys like Austin or Stevenson show that they can contribute on special teams. McKenzie is kind of in no man’s land if he can’t contribute on special teams and he’s more of a gadget player on offense. Guys like Crowder, Shakir, Stevenson, and Austin can do a lot of what McKenzie does on offense and if they can all contribute on teams I think McKenzie is in danger of not making the roster.

I can see Stevenson beating out Mckenzie for a roster spot because of age and rookie deal. But I would be surprised to see Austin make the team if there isn't a string of injuries in front of him. McKenzie is one of those glue guys that McDermott always talks about.

Yeah Austin is a long shot, but what value does McKenzie bring if he can’t play on special teams? I get he is well liked in the locker room, but his offensive skill set can be filled by Shakir, Stevenson, Crowder, and Austin. If Stevenson can also contribute on special teams I don’t see what McKenzie offers at that point?

I think McKenzie ends up the main return specialist. Unless Stevenson or someone else is the clear best choice.

Edit: I’ll also add I don’t think this either guys can do what McKenzie does as a gadget guy. We may not do as much now (obviously remains to be seen) but his sped and size allows him to do other things that they can’t/haven’t done

McKenzie had 225 yards from scrimmage last year. I don’t think his role is hard to fill. His on field impact tends to overrated by most fans. Also Stevenson and Shakir had similar 40 times and Stevenson had one of the best 3 cone drills ever for a WR.

What about special teams?

I think it’s the wrinkle he adds to the offense. When he’s out there and in motion, defense need to account for him. 4 of his 9 rushes went for 1st downs. 13 of his 20 receptions did as well. Not bad for the teams 5th WR.
