49ers C Alex Mack retiring

Great career. He was so important to the Falcons' offensive success during his time in Atlanta. Centers don't get talked about much, but it's one of those positions where that's a good thing. Nobody appreciates a good center until he's not there anymore.

Assumed he would be like a 9 or 10x pro bowler. Which AFC C's were getting in over him when he was a Brown? He's the only C I would admit to being better than Kelce, because his pass protection was superb instead of just good. Alex Mack is the first film aspiring NFL C's should watch.

49ers now have a glaring hole at Center.

Brunskill likely just gets kicked over.

The big, scary issue will be the guard spots now. Those are potentially awful.

One thing I like about this regime -

Earlier today they guaranteed 500K of his contract that he wouldn't have seen if he retired. He now gets that as a parting gift from the organization.

If I had to guess just based on the AFC at the time without looking, I'm guessing Maurkice Pouncey and Nick Mangold.

I would guess those two too, but Mack was better. Damn popularity contest.
