Actually the Tomlin Era has never had a losing season.  But it's ok we must never give him credit.

We all know that's only because Tomlin has Ben to lean on.

Lets just ignore guys like Norv Turner, Mike McCoy, Sean Payton, Mike Smith and Tom Coughlin all had franchise QBs and still had numerous losing seasons.   Lets ignore that we are 8-2 this season IN SPITE of how Ben has played AT TIMES THIS YEAR.      But oh yeah....its the players on defense and guys like Bell and Brown who deserve the credit...but Tomlin doesnt deserve credit for any of those guys.   If they screw up though....its clearly Mike's fault.   I mean.....why cant Martavis stop smoking weed and dropping passes?  Thanks Tomlin.

I'm reminded of this scene in Liar Liar every time someone does something like that:

Plenty of coaches have had losing seasons with franchise QB's, very few have had multiple winning seasons without one.  And the list of coaches that have winning records with their backup QB is even shorter.

Do you know his record with backups?  I'd like to see that.

As I've said before: (facetiously)   Many teams around the league would kill for the kind of "mediocrity" that Tomlin brings.

Off the top of my head I think he's 9-8 or 10-8.

FWIW I think BB with a 12-7 with backups is the only other HC with a franchise QB who has a winning record with his backup starting (9-6 with Cassell, 2-0 Garappollo, 1-1 Brissett).

Mark of a good team with a good coach apparently.  Cassell 9-6?  Give me Chuck Batch 10/10.

That Cassel season was one with a good line, 2 500+ yard RB's, 2 1000+ yard WRs in Welker and Moss.  Defense was quite elite that year too, especially in the front 7 (Mayo, Brushi, Wilfork, Vrabel, Seymour).

Yeah good points on that season.

My personal memory of that season:

I was the backup QB on my flag football team that year and our starter got hurt.  I took over after a couple games and led my team to the league championship.  Thought of myself as the Matt Cassell of the league that year.  lol  And like Matt, it was never repeated.  :(

9-8 after checking up on it.  My mind is like a finely tuned fish net.

And its worth noting that many of those losses were CLOSE losses vs pretty good teams.  As youll see, the Ravens have really benefitted from Ben being out, although they only usually beat us by 3 points with our backups in....

I actually think Tomlin and his teams rise very well to adversity (except vs the Patriots).    Problem is, his teams become too lackadaisical when it comes to games they should win.   Thats a problem, but its a problem Ill live with as long as we are making the playoffs year after year.    I just like to laugh at the people who act like he would be easily replaceable.    Even with all his faults, he is still, at worst, a top 7 head coach in this league, and while there may be other coaches in this league who COULD be better, they wouldnt necessarily be easy to find.

I think the steelers can survive without ben with tomlin coaching.. we would be like those 90s cowher teams with our young defense rising as the face of the team...getting a franchise QB will still be key for runs at winning a Superbowl and not just going 10-6 and losing in the div round
