I always enjoy these, but not a fan of the extremely unrealistic trades.    I wish, after all these damn years, EA would figure out how to incorporate more than just overall ratings into trade valuations in Madden.

Anyway, looking forward to this.   Watching people do franchises makes me wanna play....but then I play and reminded why I dont.    :/

I'm curious why you think the trades are so unrealistic?  I intentionally avoided trading to tanking teams and tried to pair players to a team that could actually use them.  The biggest return I got was for Tyler Lockett (1st and future 4th) and we saw a bunch of WRs get traded for 1st round picks this offseason. Also we've seen tanking teams stock up on a bunch of draft picks lately, and even teams having 2 or 3 first round picks in a single class has become quite common.  I mean I know the number of trades is probably questionable, but I'm intentionally trying to replace the entire 53 man roster only through the draft so the volume of trades is pretty much a necessity.

edit - btw I'm not trying to criticize you I just like to make this thing as realistic as I can so anything to make it better I'm game for.

2023 NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-image.jpg

Time to set up the draft board.  The roster needs everything so I’m going to look at every position.

This is a strong QB class with a bunch of projected first rounders. Cole Drew appears to be the top QB prospect, he’s definitely a pocket QB but is the Strong Arm archetype with Elite TP. He has A DAC, A MAC, A SAC, A TUP, A AWR. I also have him 100% scouted and it says he’s a top 5 talent in the entire class, so he should be 76 OVR+.  He should be a great starting QB immediately. James Murphy also has elite throw power but some of his accuracy ratings aren’t as high as Drew. Russ Pemberton would make a solid backup developmental QB in the 3rd.

HB Eric Mathis ran a 4.29 at the combine.  HB is one of the only positions I don’t have a big need at but that is stupid fast.  He’s projected to go 26th so I would have to move up from my late first if I wanted to land him. I typically like to target power backs though (the cpu just doesn’t sim big runs so you might as well get guys who break tackles in sim). There’s a bunch of other mediocre speed backs that will be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Craig Dempsey is a projected 3rd day power back who did 29 bench reps and ran a 4.49. He could make a solid backup RB. Dom Burns is another late round guy who isn’t as good of an athlete but has some good skill ratings. Jimmy Sims is another late round power back option.

Since I’m running a power running scheme I generally take a FB, and Jarry Herndon looks like he’s worth a late round pick.

All of the top WRs are big bodied guys with slow 40 times and terrible skill ratings. Kevin Sharp will likely be available in the 2nd, and although he doesn’t have a ton of speed he’s big (6’5” 215) and has some solid skills. On the other end of the spectrum is tiny (5’8” 183) WR Matt Caldwell who ran a ridiculous 4.24, but looks a little raw skill wise. He should be around in the late second round. Stephen Bailey is very similar to Caldwell. Taylor Westbrook could be available in later rounds and looks like a solid athlete, but I don’t have his skills scouted much.

The top TE is a projected top 5 pick, and although he looks OK I don’t think he good enough to be worthy of a selection that high. He ran a 4.62 and only did 18 bench reps. Jeff Cain is a Round 2-3 prospect though and looks fantastic. Great size, good athlete and top notch skills.  Honestly Cain might be one of the best prospects in this entire draft class.  Dwayne Hoskins is a high end athlete that should be available on Day 3 but he’s pretty raw. He’s definitely more of a receiver than blocker, which I generally like my TEs to be able to block, plus he’s 23. Jerry Pritchard is no where near the same athlete but it appears he can block. Buzz Jennings looks like a blocker only, but should be available really late.

The top LT is garbage. Deion Bell, a Round 2-3 prospect, is a good run blocker but raw at pass blocking.  I could move him to Guard and he’d be a pretty good prospect there. Junior Edwards should be available late and is probably another conversion to Guard type. Pretty slim pickings at LT.

LG Tyrell Jones is a projected top 10 pick.  He looks solid but not draft a Guard in the top 10 good.  He did 32 reps on the bench, which is passable but not elite. His skills are again passable but not elite. LT Marvin Robertson is really frustrating.  He’s top 5 in all combine stats (including 38 bench reps) but his skills are D PB, D RB and C or worse on most other things.  Plus he’s 23, so he’s way too raw to be that old.  There are no LGs worth drafting in this class.

The Top center is mediocre, but George Holliday looks pretty good. 36 bench reps, great run blocker, he’s the kind of interior olineman I need. He’s projected to go #32 overall so he could be available with my late first round pick. Michael Colon looks solid as well (although I don’t have him scouted much), he will probably be a high second round pick. Nick Pippen is even better though, and actually looks like a must draft. He’s projected as a Round 3-4 pick, would probably need to target him high in the 3rd. Pippen might be one of the best prospects in this class.

RG Robby Clement isn’t amazing but if I’m struggling to find someone in the 3rd round to take he should be considered. He can run block at least. Pretty terrible class for Guards which is a bummer cause my oline needs a lot of work.

The top RT is not good. Derek Reeves is solid, but he’s projected to go in the top 10 and I don’t think he’s worth that high of a pick.  Also he looks like a pass protecting LT which I already have covered for now in Cross. Really there are no RTs worth drafting.

LE Sterling Palmer would convert to DT in a 4-3.  He’s an ok athlete, and skills are ok.  He’s a projected Top 10 pick and he’s not elite enough for that imo. Jaden Hamlin looks solid for a Round 2-3 prospect, pretty solid athlete for his size but more of a run stuffer power guy than speed edge rusher. Denzel Kelley is a speed rusher, but he looks like a pass rushing specialist that might not add much else. Caleb Brewer is similar to Kelley but could be had later.

RE Nathan Balmer looks pretty good.  Pretty good athlete for the position (ran a 4.64 and did 33 reps), but kind of raw with his skills.  He has good size and is a very strong power rusher, he could play LE and slide inside to DT on nickle sets. He’s projected to be available for my second first round pick and he’s definitely in consideration for that pick. There aren’t any other REs worth drafting.

The top DTs are slower run stuffers, not ideal. DT Steve Pearman could be an option at the end of the first round, but I wouldn’t call him an elite prospect. Ryan Everett is somewhat similar and should be available in the second round. Jermaine Felder is a speed rusher, ran a 4.78 with 33 reps.  He could be a solid target in the second round as well. Jermaine Newsome is another solid speed pass rusher.

The LOLBs are shockingly bad.  Maybe a flier on UDFA Johnnie Hartwell super late.

MLB Phillip Foster is solid but he’s 23 years old (he ran a 4.52).  I’ll put him on the board but I really don’t want one of my first high draft picks to be 23. Dionte Clark is slower (ran a 4.64) but has pretty good skills.  He should be available in Round 2. Jeremiah Peoples could be a solid depth player that should be available late.  He’s really raw but a solid athlete for that late.  I’m really reaching to find anyone at linebacker cause this draft class looks terrible at linebacker.

ROLB Joe Arrington isn’t super fast (he ran a 4.69) but has good skills. He should be available in Round 3. The rest of his combine was actually pretty good. If I’m searching for someone late to take Mevlin Blackstock isn’t awful. James Riddick is solid too super late.

The top CB skipped the combine so I’m not drafting someone who could be slow. Tremaine Lindley is ok but not spectacular (he ran a 4.44, solid skills).  I would have to take him at 12 and not sure he’s worth that. Nick Little is a zone coverage CB with good size and decent athlete (ran a 4.45) who could probably play CB or S. He’s actually projected to fall out of the first round so he’s definitely an option in the 2nd round. Desean Osgood could be a decent depth pick in Round 3-4, he only ran a 4.50 but is solid otherwise for a mid round pick. Paul Elston is raw but has good size and decent athlete for a mid rounder. Justin Green might be worth a flyer late.

FS Jeff Boatwright is ok.  He ran a 4.48 but the rest of his combine was pedestrian.  Looks like he can hit and tackle, kind of an in the box safety, more of a SS. Not sure if that’s worth a 2nd round pick. Bret Belser is another in the box safety but would be available much later. He only ran 4.57 though. Lance Daniels is more of a coverage safety, decent athlete (4.43) and will likely go in the mid rounds. Honestly he’s probably the best pure coverage safety in this class.

SS Ronald Levy looks interesting for a 2nd round pick. Ran a 4.46, and pretty killer combine all around. Kind of raw skill wise but he can hit hard at least.

Time to start the draft.

These are my picks for this draft:

Round 1 - 2

Round 1 - 12

Round 1 - 30

Round 2 - 34

Round 2 - 62

Round 3 - 65

Round 3 - 66

Round 4 - 98

Round 4 - 115

Round 5 - 130

Round 5 - 149

Round 6 - 162

I don't think the Cardinals will take a QB so I don't see any reason to trade up to 1.  I'll sit and wait at 2.

The Cardinals took LOLB Chase Verdon #1 overall.  I'm on the clock.

So really this is a no brainer pick for me. QB Cole Drew looks like a stud.

With the 2nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

QB Cole Drew, LA Tech

Strong Arm (82), Field General (80), Improviser (75), Scrambler (73)

k6oSb0c.jpg

- Hidden Dev! He's the new face of the franchise. 98 THROW POWER!

I'm just going to sit and see who drops to 12.

Ok the board went pretty similar to the mock draft, I'm on the clock at 12.

I think my options here are to take RE Nathan Balmer or to trade down.  No one else really jumps out to me.  I'm already pretty stacked with draft picks so I'm going to pick the player over more draft capital.

With the 12th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

RE Nathan Balmer, Tennessee

Power Rusher (73), Run Stopper (69), Speed Rusher (67)

LMCQ7L4.jpg

- 2 for 2 hidden devs, great start. he has 84 speed and 88 strength.  Looks like a good pick.

I'm pretty zeroed in on wanting OC George Holliday with my next pick.  He's mocked to go right around where I pick so I may want to move up just a little to make sure I get him.

Ok so the first Center just went off the board at 24 to the Raiders, that's exactly where he was projected to go. Not sure whether to roll the dice that he will fall or to try to move up.

Ok I rolled the dice and he fell to 30.

With the 30th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

OC George Holliday, Alabama

Power (76), Agile (69), Pass Protector (68) - *after changing to RG

iMTshLs.jpg

- 3 for 3 hidden dev!  This is how you turn a roster around. 90 strength.  Power blocker, should be good.

Ok I'm on the clock at 34.  I'm 100% taking TE Jeff Cain here but I need to consider whether I want to trade up for another pick in this range. I'm actually pretty intrigued by CB Nick Little and would like to see if I could move up to take him here.  Not sure what it would take to get one but lets find out.

With the 34th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

TE Jeff Cain, Wisconsin

Vertical Threat (75), Possession (73), Blocking (61)

4ijVnO4.jpg

- 4 for freaking 4 hidden dev!  Hell yes.  84 Speed.  91 Acceleration.  Should be a monster.

*TRADE*

Giants Receive

TE Noah Fant (85)

Seahawks Receive

Pick 35 (2)

- Fant just became expendable after my last pick.  Giants need a starting TE.

With the 35th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

CB Nick Little, Oklahoma

Zone (75), Slot (75), Man to Man (74)

Z2RqYVw.jpg

- 5 for 5 hidden dev!  LOL.  What is happening?

Ok I'm on the clock again at 62.  I have two more picks coming up at 65 and 66 too.

OC Nick Pippen is 100% going to be one of those picks.

Other top available are: WR Matt Caldwell, WR Stephen Bailey (honestly those two are interchangeable), DTs Felder and Newsome who are also interchangeable, and coverage LB Joe Arrington.

With the 62nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

OC Nick Pippen, Washington

Agile (74), Power (68), Pass Protector (67)

K7VukhD.jpg

- 6 in a row people.  I should just retire now.  This is nuts.

Ok Matt Caldwell goes with the very next pick.  Crap and then Bailey.  Maybe I should have taken one of them but I really didn't want to miss out on Pippen. I'm on the clock again. I guess I'll take one of the DTs and Arrington.

With the 65th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

DT Jermaine Newsome, Stanford

Speed Rusher (70), Run Stopper (69), Power Rusher (68)

llLwvKK.jpg

- 7 of 7.  What is happening?  Is the game glitched? This might be the most epic draft class of all time.

With the 66th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

ROLB Joe Arrington, Miami

Pass Coverage (71), Speed Rusher (65), Run Stopper (65), Power Rusher (63)

1YewX3W.jpg

- Ok broke the streak.  At least we know the game isn't breaking on us. 83 speed, 89 acceleration.  Should make a decent linebacker.  Also LBers are one of the easiest positions to gain dev traits at so this is the one you want to miss on if you have to.

Ok next pick is in the 4th round.

Current BPAs: LE Denzel Kelley, FS Bret Belser, FS Lance Daniels, HB Craig Dempsey.

With the 98th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

FS Lance Daniels, Ohio

74leRfj.jpg

- Another normal dev.  90 speed, 89 acceleration.  Should be good depth if nothing else.

My next pick is in middle of the 4th.  HB Dempsey is gone, that's probably who I was going to take.  I may trade down here.

*TRADE*

49ers Receive

Pick 115 (4)

Seahawks Receive

Pick 121 (4)

Pick 217 (7)

- I only move down 6 spots and currently don't have a 7th.  This will let me target one of those UDFA type players on my board.

With the 121st Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

HB Dom Burns, North Dakota State

- Normal dev.  Backup RB.

With the 130th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

TE Jerry Pritchard, UCF

- Normal dev.  Backup TE.  Hoping he can block.

With the 149th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

WR Taylor Westbrook, Eastern Washington

- Normal dev.  I wanted to add a WR to the roster.  He has 94 Speed.

With the 162nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

FB Jarry Herndon, Ole Miss

- Normal dev.  Run blocking FB for the running game.

With the 200th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

MLB Jeremiah Peoples

- Normal dev, linebacker depth.

That ends this draft.  Pretty epic start.  Wrapped it up with some solid depth.  Should be a good start to this rebuild.

I gotta figure out what’s going on cause the league reverted back all the way to the #2 overall pick.  I have to run the whole draft again.  I will just draft same guys but I may be screwed if this glitch is permanent.  Anyone here experienced this?

I haven’t gotten to the draft on any franchise yet. My play franchise I’m at week 4 and my sim franchise (I just started today) I’m at week 10 because I’m simming games but still doing all the weekly tasks. I’ll have a better answer tomorrow

That's an epic class.  Drew might be one of the "generational prospects" they've been touting, that show up every few years.  If hes an X-Factor, that's what he was.  82 is really high for a qb.

I haven't encountered that glitch yet.  Are you doing an online or offline franchise.

It’s online.  I’m basically dead in the water unless I find a fix. I read that when they do a roster update it may reset their servers and fix it for me.

Well this same thing was happening last year and EA still appears to not have addressed it, which is fantastic.  Why aren't you just playing this franchise in off line mode?  This glitch won't occur offline.

Idk I always just play online. Too late to change it now.

Offline is normally more glitched than online even.  That's what made me ask.  It took them forever to get offline franchises to not become corrupted after year 5, last year.  The sim stats are worse, too, although online seems a little high in some categories right now.  They should get them toned down a little though.  It sounds like your issue is only being seen on XBox right now.  Hopefully they get it patched in short order.
