Hats off to Dwayne Eskridge for overcoming the odds. 60 yards receiving in year one, <600 in year 2, to over 1k in year 3

Also thought the bears managed to not have a single pro bowler but ayy look at you Velus Jones.

2024 NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-image.jpg

Time to set up the draft board.  The roster needs everything so I’m going to look at every position.

QB isn’t a first round need but I could use a backup. Joshua Weston is already 23 years old but should be available Day 3 and has elite arm strength.

I’d like to get a new starting RB in this class if possible. The only RB projected to go in the first round is Joseph McBride, and he’s projected to go all the way at 32.  He’s stupid fast, ran a 4.36, but I prefer power backs.  He’s also only 5’9” 198 lbs. David McGhee is a Round 2-3 prospect, not as fast but a 5’10” 229 lb power back.  He ran a 4.5 but did 29 bench reps. Wow Marquise Fulton might be even better, only 5’10” 220 lbs but ran a 4.45 and 32 bench reps. Deshaun Haden is rated a UDFA and could be had super late.

WR is a huge need.  Unfortunately none of the first round WRs look any good. Derek Cameron is a Round 2-3 guy, 6’3” physical receiver but ran a 4.39 and had great jumping ratings. Not super quick though. Antwuan Massie is already 23, and skipped the combine, but his pro day skills look interesting and is abilities look solid too.  He could be available on Day 3. Carlos Darughn is fast but his skills suck.  He’s another Day 3 guy, maybe a 4-5 round target. Josh Britton is better than Massie or Draughn, ran a 4.31 with decent skills. Probably should be targeted in Round 4. Dion Hardy could probably be had real late. Pretty weak class at WR.

TE is probably one of the only other positions I won’t consider in the first round. I could always use depth though. Miles Gary is a Round 2-3 prospect, ran 4.59 with 21 reps, decent blocker.  Could be a solid backup. Glen Mallard is a solid late round prospect. Corey Rutherford is a projected UDFA but could be an interesting pick late.  Not a great athlete but excellent blocker.

LT isn’t a huge need with Cross on the roster, but I’d like to replace him eventually (my goal is to replace the entire roster eventually) and RT is still a big need. There are two LTs projected to go top 5 in this class. Neither are worth a top pick. Joey Camarillo is also projected to go in the top 10, he’s a great athlete but looks like a raw finesse pass protector. He’s projected to go 7 which feels high, he feels like late first round value to me. The mid rounds for LTs look abysmal. Mason Winslow looks solid for a Day 3 prospect, although he’s 23 years old.

At LG, Books Henson looks like a top flight oline prospect.  He has B or A at every skill position and had a solid combine. He’s projected to go 16th overall, so if I really wanted to take him I could trade down from 8 and still land him. Guard isn’t a huge need for me but at 6’4” 336 lbs he could probably play RT. Grant Berger is solid and is projected to fall out of the first round.  He could be a 2nd round target, and with his 6’6” 331 lb size could play anywhere on the line.  Henson is better though. Brandon Brock is a Day 3 power guard with solid run block skills. Spencer Lowry is a projected UDFA but did 36 reps and is another power blocker.

The top Center is garbage. In fact all of the Centers suck.

RG Tyler Griffin is a better athlete than LG Brooks Henson but I don’t have him scouted as much.  He could be a monster if he hits though. Connor Browning is a solid prospect for the 3rd round. DJ Jefferson could be had later, decent run blocker but could be really raw in pass protection.

RT Stephen Walters is another projected top 10 pick. He has good skills but his athleticism isn’t worth a top 10 pick imo. Alfonso Randall is projected to go 27th overall, so I’d have to trade up slightly for him. He’s a pretty decent athlete but I don’t have all his skills scouted. Looks like a stronger run blocker than pass blocker though. All of the other RTs are garbage.

LE Chad Johnson is a projected top 5 prospect.  He’s a solid athlete but he doesn’t look like a star player to me, plus he’s 23.  Not worth trading up for IMO. Nick Grant is interesting.  He ran a 4.64 with 29 bench reps, but he’s a power rusher only and he’s only 6’3” 280 lbs.  So can’t convert him to DT, plus Balmer who I took last year is a power rusher. He’s projected to go 18th so I could trade back and still take him.  Clarence Cooks is supposed to fall to Round 2, and could convert to DT. He did 38 bench reps. Manny Boykin is a decent speed rusher, ran a 4.74, can’t do anything else though. Jojo Blaylock is similar but is slightly better and can be had later in the draft.

There are no projected first round REs. Britton Griggs is a Round 3-4 speed rusher, looks solid, probably better than the LEs. He ran a 4.64 with 28 bench reps. He probably needs to be a must draft for me at the top of the 3rd round. There are no other good REs.

DT is a big need. The top DT is Joey Clayborn, he’s a run stopper without elite athleticism. He’s projected to go in the top half of the first round, he’s not worth that. Tevin Harding is another Run Stopper, only ran a 4.91 but he did a crazy 43 bench reps. He’s projected to go 20th so I could trade down, or up really to take him. His block shedding is pretty low for a run stopper though. Donte Whitaker is a Round 2-3 guy, speed rusher, reminds me of Newsome that I drafted last year. His 4.89 time is only average for a speed rusher though. Honestly I think I’d rather pair Newsome with a power rusher or run stopper. The rest of the DT class looks rough.

LOLB Rickie Walker is a Round 2-3 guy, only ran a 4.63 but looks pretty good otherwise. Hugh Cleary is another decent looking coverage linebacker, ran a 4.53 and can been taken in round 3.  Anthony Perine, 4.59, available even later.

ROLB Carlos Gardiner is a pass rushing olb, ran a 4.65 with 28 bench reps. I don’t have his FM scouted though.  He’s projected to fall to the 2nd round despite being labeled a first round prospect. Nick Staley is a Round 3-4 prospect, labeled a run stopper but he’s solid all around.

There are no MLBs projected to go in the first round. The top MLB is Shawn Johnson, he’s 23 years old, but he ran a 4.45 which is pretty crazy. He only did 18 reps though. None of the other MLBs are worth mentioning.

I spent a lot of my scouting resources on the CBs. The top CB isn’t a good enough athlete to be a first round pick. Josh Binns is projected to go 15th, he’s 6’3” and ran a 4.36. He’s pretty raw though. Greg Starks is also 6’3”, ran a 4.33 and is a Round 2-3 prospect.  He is a must draft for me in the 2nd round. Paul Kendricks can’t play Man at all but is good in zone and can tackle, he could make a decent conversion to Safety. Donte Heyward is raw but a Day 3 prospect with good athleticism.

There are no FSs projected to go in the first round. Earl Barnes is a Day 4 prospect, only ran a 4.52 but had a good combine otherwise.

There are 4 SS projected for the first. Damarious Philbin is a projected top 10 pick, he has good skills but not the best athlete, not worth a top 10 pick imo. David Barton though looks excellent, fantastic skills and great combine.  He’s projected to be on the board with my late second round pick and needs to be in serious consideration with that pick. Alex Barner is actually projected to go ahead of Barton and is slightly faster, I think Barton is the better overall player though. Some of the others are solid but none are better than those two.  There are no SSs worth taking late.

Draft Picks

Round 1 - 8

Round 1 - 29

Round 2 - 40

Round 2 - 48

Round 3 - 67

Round 3 - 72

Round 4 - 104

Round 4 - 119

Round 5 - 136

Round 5 - 159

Round 6 - 168

Round 7 - 200

So that's the board.  It doesn't feel to me like there is a player worth taking at 8 in this class.  I'm pretty comfortable trading back from that pick. The options to target in a trade down are the Guards Henson or Griffin, CB Binns or DT Harding. I'm leaning towards taking Binns cause there aren't a lot of 6'3" CBs that run in the 4.3s.

Lets start the draft.

Vikings have the #1 overall pick, and they select QB Stephen Wagner. Cousins has regressed to a 70 OVR so that is a good pick for them. LE Chad Johnson goes #2 overall to the Texans, he's a pretty good player but he's already 23 years old. LT Damarr Haywood is the #3 pick to the Cardinals, Texans pick again at 4 and take LOLB Ben Baugh (who's pretty terrible) and the Jets round out the top 5 by picking LT Michael Kirksey.

I'm on the clock at #8 overall.  Every pick has held form to the mock draft so far, which honestly is pretty boring I hope they patch that eventually.

Time to look at trade offers. My objective is to trade down to the lower teens, pick up some extra picks and then take CB Binns.

*TRADE*

Falcons Receive

#8 overall pick

Seahawks Receive

#12 overall pick

#76 pick (3)

#204 pick (7)

Mission accomplished.

The Falcons select DT Joey Clayborn who is not the player mocked to go 8 (in fact he was mocked to go 17th).

Ok I'm on the clock at 12.

With the 12th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

CB Josh Binns, Pittsburgh

Man to Man (74), Slot (74), Zone (73)

kMj1yVV.jpg

- Hidden dev! 95 Speed, 91 acceleration and 95 change of direction. Good pick.

I'm just going to sim to 29 I don't see the point in moving up.

Alright I'm on the clock at 29. I really like the Safeties here, particularly SS David Barton. Other options would be LG Grant Berger, HB Joseph McBride, or RT Alfonso Randall who has surprisingly fallen to 29. I think this decision is between Barton and Randall, I didn't really expect Randall to be here and was targeting Barton with this pick. Although I really like Randall I'm going to stick with the plan and take Barton.

With the 29th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

SS David Barton, Florida

Hybrid (75), Run Support (74), Zone (74)

6PKMN83.jpg

- Ouch, normal dev.  91 Speed, 89 Acceleration.  I was hoping for more. Damn maybe I should have taken Randall. Barton's a hybrid safety though, he can play a lot of positions in the secondary for me.  He might play some slot CB.

I pick again at 40.

On the clock at 40.  A ton of options here.  I really feel like the strength of this class is in the 2nd round.  The top players available on my board are LE Clarence Cooks, who would move to DT.  DT is a huge need for me, but he's a run stuffer. MLB Shawn Johnson ran a stupid fast 4.45 but is 23 years old. Then there's WR Derek Cameron, who's basically the only decent WR prospects in this class. Also CB Greg Starks who's another fast 6'3" CB. And finally HB Marquise Fulton who I think can be a legitimate starting RB.

So I have a lot of guys I want, and only 2 picks here.  I may trade up for a 3rd.  The question is which 3.  I really think I have to take WR Derek Cameron, I like him as a prospect and my young QB just needs WRs to throw to. I really want to take HB Fulton too.  I went secondary heavy in the 1st so I think Starks is out, that leaves Cooks or Johnson for the final pick. I'm going to take Cameron here, then sim to my next pick at 48 and decide what to do.

With the 40th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

WR Derek Cameron, Texas A&M

Physical (74), Slot (72), Deep Threat (71), Playmaker (71)

5ilhIuu.jpg

- HIDDEN DEV.  That one is huge.  WR is a huge need.  93 speed!  89 acceleration.  I love this pick.

simming to 48.

Well crap, Clarence Cooks got drafted by the Falcons so he's gone.  UGH.  Shawn Johnson is gone too.  Unbelievable, CB Starks is gone too.  All between picks 40 & 48.

I'm on the clock at 48.

Well there's no point in trading up anymore.  I can either just take Fulton here or possibly trade down again.

*TRADE*

Raiders Receive

#48 overall pick (2)

Seahawks Receive

#53 overall pick (2)

#117 overall pick (4)

- A bit of a gamble here but I'm only moving down 5 spots and picking up a 4th.

Ok on the clock again at 53.  Fulton's still on the board he's the pick.

With the 53rd Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

HB Marquise Fulton, Iowa

Power Back (75), Elusive Back (74), Receiving Back (59)

ALO6tr9.jpg

- Normal dev.  Meh. 91 speed, 84 strength.  We'll see what he can do.  RBs can gain dev traits this isn't a death sentence for him.

Ok I'm just going to sim to the 3rd round now.

I'm on the clock at 67. This is an easy pick for me.  Its RE Britton Griggs all the way here.

With the 67th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

RE Britton Griggs, Texas Tech

Speed Rusher (70), Power Rusher (66), Run Stopper (65)

8xswwOa.jpg

- Normal dev, 84 speed though with 79 strength.  Hopefully he develops into a starter.

On the clock again at 72.  Let's assess who's BPA at the moment.  CB Paul Kendricks is available, he's short and very raw but is a good athlete. LOLB Hugh Cleary is an undersized relatively athletic coverage linebacker. I could double dip at DE and take speed rusher Jojo Blaylock. Also available is run stopping ROLB Nick Staley.

Kind of feel like double dipping at DE with Jojo is the right call here.  I pick again at 76 with the pick I gained in the trade down so I'll get someone else there too.

With the 72th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

LE Jojo Blaylock, North Carolina

Speed Rusher (69), Power Rusher (65), Run Stopper (64)

dTPOPg8.jpg

- Meh.  More normal dev.  80 speed, 80 strength.  He looks solid for a rotational player which is probably what his role will be.

On the clock again at 76.

With the 76th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

ROLB Nick Staley, Duke

Run Stopper (67), Speed Rusher (61), Power Rusher (60), Pass Coverage (60)

vMcndS5.jpg

- Another normal dev.  85 speed.  Run stuffer, most of my linebackers are pass coverage so he gives me something different at the position my roster lacks.  He has a chance to start.

Simming to the 4th. I have picks 104, 117 & 119 here in the 4th.

On the clock at 104. It would be a boring pick but potential backup QB Joshua Weston is still available.  FS Earl Barnes is a decent option here.  Pass coverage LOLB Anthony Perine is available. WRs Massie and Draughn are also available.

With the 104th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

FS Earl Barnes, Alabama

Hybrid (68), Run Support (66), Zone (64)

EaYaArB.jpg

- Normal dev. 89 speed, 92 acceleration.  Not a bad pick for this late.

Weston is gone. So is Perine.

With the 117th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

WR Antwaun Massie, Indiana

Playmaker (71), Slot (70), Deep Threat (68), Physical (64)

6g2u80E.jpg

- Normal dev. 88 speed, 92 acceleration.  Not great but he's a depth guy.

With the 119th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

LT Mason Winslow, Texas A&M

Agile (67), Power (59), Pass Protector (57)

jj8Op6N.jpg

- Normal dev.  took him for some Oline depth. 87 strength.

Simming to 5th.

I have picks 136 & 159 in the 5th.

With the 136th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

LG Brandon Brock, USF

Power (65), Agile (61), Pass Protector (54)

fuKduV8.jpg

- Normal dev. 87 strength, more oline depth.

With the 159th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

WR Dion Hardy, Youngstown State

Deep Threat (70), Playmaker (69), Slot (68), Physical (63)

BdDQ33M.jpg

- Small school guy with speed, 94 speed 94 acceleration.

Finally I have pick 168 in the 6th and picks 200 and 204 in the 7th.

With the 168th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

HB Deshaun Haden, FSU

Power Back (72), Elusive Back (66), Receiving Back (50)

u7Lt2lj.jpg

- Normal dev. 88 speed, 84 strength.  Was a projected UDFA guy.

With the 200th Pick in the NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select:

ROLB Josh Meekins, Miami

Speed Rusher (62), Pass Coverage (62), Run Stopper (61), Power Rusher (53)

467bCOJ.jpg

- Normal dev. 83 speed.  This guy wasn't on my board I just took a stab on him.  There's no one from my board left, not even the projected UDFAs.

Traded 7th round pick to Carolina for future 6th.

That wraps up this draft.  Went from epic first draft class to two hidden devs in this one.

Not a ton of changes from last year, that's what happens when you have a weak draft.

I'm going to shop HB Walker and start rookie HB Fulton.

At WR, Rookie Cameron will get a chance to start.

Oline stays the same, some new depth.

FA signing A'Shawn Robinson will start at DT next to Newsome.

The linebackers are pretty rough.

Binns will be the #2 CB.

FA signing Malik Hooker will start at FS. I might shop Blair.  Rookie Barton will stay at Safety for now but may end up at CB down the line.

CUTS

D Dallas (71) - drafted his replacement and he's out of PS time.

WR D Holley (65) - heading to PS

LE R Johnson (66) - he's out of PS eligibility.

RE B Mafe (73) - I could probably trade him but I've picked up enough picks already. I drafted some cheaper better prospects.

DT B Mone (68) - already 28 years old.

DT M Gotel (66) - not talented.

LOLB M Bernard (62) - heading to PS.

ROLB J Iyiegbuniwe (70) - he's 28, drafted some cheaper options.

CB D Moreland (68) - heading to PS

CB K Kidd (65) - heading to PS

CB C Bryant (71) - heading to PS, likely will be stolen

FS B Bolden (67) - heading to PS

CB T Woolen (70) - heading to PS.  He was my last cut, just ran out of space.

*TRADE*

Cardinals Receive

HB K Walker (84)

Seahawks Receive

2nd Round pick

- Cardinals current starter is a 77 OVR.  Walker gives them a new starter.

*TRADE*

Bears Receive

M Blair (75)

Seahawks Receive

5th Round pick

- Bears secondary needs a lot of help and this is pretty cheap.

*TRADE*

Falcons Receive

WR D Eskridge (75)

Seahawks Receive

3rd Round pick

- The Falcons WRs are awful and Eskridge is coming off of a 1,000 yard season. I didn't want to trade him honestly but I have to get my drafted WRs snaps and his rookie contract is ending.
