Ha ha what? Who is talking about him that way?

A lot of draft analysts right now have LaPorta as their #TE2.

I have durability concerns with Kincaid & LaPorta.

Mayer's separation could be a little bit better but his contested catches look too easy for him which translates well into the NFL level.

Regardless LaPorta has some people being in the cowboys first round radar as a floor pick. There could be some surprises with teams above us if they really like him also.

A little nightmare fuel wipeout scenario. There’s no reason these couldn’t be the first 25 players off the board:

QB -4 (Young, Richardson, Stroud, Levis)
RB -1 (Bijan)
WR -1 (JSN)
TE -2 (Mayer, Kincaid)
OL -6 (Johnson, Skoronski, Wright, Jones, Avila, Torrence)
DL -6 (Anderson, Carter, Wilson, Nolan Smith, Van Ness, Cancey)
LB -0
CB -5 (JPJ, Witherspoon, Gonzales, Forbes, Banks)
S -0

Who are you picking?

McDonald, Sanders, Flowers, QJ, Addison, JMS, Darnell Washington, Branch, Anton Harrison, Murphy probably the top options on the board.

I’d roll Washington or Flowers.

QJ or DW. I think in this situation they go QJ just because of the ideal pairing with Lamb. He compliments him very well, in the sort of way that could really bolster the passing attack. DW could as well, but I think they lean QJ because of the size/athletic ability of the higher value position. If QJ was off the board...well, you know my answer there: DW

Though if it were MY call in that situation? I go Hooker and I sing and twirl my way to hand in the card.

Laporta would be such an underwhelming 1st rounder honestly. I'm not sure he has the upside in the NFL pass game as Mayer does

I assume you mean, Kincaid? I haven’t seen LaPorta mocked in rd 1 by anyone. I’m not sure I’ve seen LaPorta in anyone’s top 50 even.

I read endless content on the draft and I have not seen this at all. Can you point me to just a couple of the “lot”?

Why do you say Mayers separation could be better than LaPorta? Because of his extra step in the speed department? Speed in the NFL has little to do with separation and more helps with yards after the catch.

Mayer leaves a lot to be desired with separation - he uses his frame and speed, which works great in college. But in the pros, no one is getting burned off the line and boxed out as easily as NCAA. Mayer will need to learn to sharpen up the end of his routes and clean up his footwork to be on par with the separation of the better route runners at TE.

Not saying he isn't one of the top TE in the draft, because he is. Just wanted to make clear this assumption that he will separate better because he runs faster is not exactly correct. Not at the NFL level anyway..

Eh, a few buddies I keep in touch with from my days as a GA and that old Schiano staff have talked about LaPorta to me. I admit he isn't in my radar, but if he is on theirs, I say it holds water -- their careers went farther than mine LOL

But I would be truly shocked if LaPorta was the pick for Dallas. Not that he's a bad selection. Just that overall at that pick, there should be far better available both at his position and at other positions. But I do this for fun and love of the sport now, so if those being paid to do it say is possible I'd say okay - even if that possibility is slim.

@Dallas94Ware I’ll give you this, you never cease to surprise me with your posts

WizardHawk: “I haven’t seen LaPorta in anyone’s top 50”

D94Ware: “Um, have you considered my buddies from the old Schiano days”

Hahahaha, never change, my man.

Well, uh, thanks? Lol

I was more saying that I've heard LaPorta linked to round one as well. I don't really see it with common mocks and stuff I typically follow or read so I totally agree with WH. And I'd never really put him in the top 50 myself.

But those old buds of mine, I mean they aren't mock draft specialists or anything, but I do personally put a lot of stock in what they think because they have actually made meaningful careers in the sport whereas I fell on my face and made my career elsewhere as a result. I know they mean nothing to you guys LOL nor should they. Was more an outloud observation that it IS something I've heard before so not a total surprise hearing it again. ....but it would be a total surprise if that were indeed the Dallas pick. I would fully get it and understand the why ... But I I'd still be awfully surprised, having heard the name linked to round 1 before or not

Just curious dude, since you do keep asking some really cool/fun hypotheticals. With less than 24 hours to go...who do you fully, truly, no heart involved just brain and logic thoughts, think they will select?

I think LaPorta is a more fluid route runner also.

The upside right now with Mayer is a chain mover at TE, which honestly fits what our offense needs right now.
